90% percent "junk silver" is by far my favorite of all precious metals. The term may end up changing because they no longer make these coins and demand keeps increasing while available supply seems to be on the decrease. Even more, they have such history behind them. The eagles, maples, pandas, etc. are still being made and have no historic value to them. Excellent video!

I’m spending $30-$40 per week on Constitutional. I enjoy picking through what I want while shooting the breeze with the guys at my LCS. Take it home, wash it with dish soap and warm water in a colander to get the grime off, and then tube it up. Great way to spend part of an afternoon! Subscribed…👍

Prices on constitutional silver have skyrocketed. I haven't been able to find anything cheaper than 26 times face online lately. It's definitely awesome to get, but not the most cost-efficient. You can buy silver rounds and bars, and even foreign coins, for cheaper than 90% silver. I still buy 90%, specifically Mercury Dimes, but my mentality has shifted. I no longer buy it as an investment in silver, since it's too expensive for that. I buy it simply because I enjoy having it. I have no intention to sell it or to barter with it. So, I think of it as more of a collection. As such, I actually seek out Mercury Dimes that are in VF-XF condition, which are my favorites. I love it when they have that old worn look to them, but at the same time when their condition is very good and you can clearly see all of the details. I actually prefer VF-XF over AU, as I don't want them to have much luster on them. I don't keep them in any flaps or coin holders. I just mix them all together and love that about them, that you don't need to worry about handling them carefully. I buy them in smaller quantities and pay higher premiums for them (usually anywhere from 30-40 times face), and the fact that I'm buying them little by little and spending so much on them will help ensure that I hold on to them down the road, since it would quite a financial loss for me to sell them. As far as pure stacking goes, I'd go with silver rounds and bars, and also gold. Those are the metals I'd sell if I'd ever have to. But I have no intention on ever selling my 90%. They are much more than silver to me. They are part of American history. People used these coins literally a century ago. They will never be minted again, and so there are fewer and fewer of them each year as more get melted away.

Thank you for your video. Regarding 7:57, an uncirculated 90% Silver Quarter Dollar's weight specification is 6.25 grams. On the other hand, a junk silver quarter dollar with noticeable abrasion wear may weigh on average around 6.18 grams. In other words for a typically worn junk silver quarter dollar, there may be on average around 0.07 grams loss in weight. That calculates to be 0.07 grams/6.25 grams = 1.12% loss in weight.

Let us go through some numbers first. A dollar face value has.715 once’s of pure silver. So you can have any type of change for .715 silver. On the other hand Morgan and Peace dollars both have roughly .77 once of silver. As he pointed out in the video. Also like he said, it takes $1.40 face value for an full once of silver. However if you try to get rid of your dateless coins you may have to put another dime on it. I think he really did a great job with this video and the only reason I’m posting this comment is that people can get answers that they probably didn’t catch on the video.

I love 90% dimes and quarters! Buy them while they're still widely available and fractional silver tends to carry the highest premiums. I also love 35% war nickels because I love its history, limited to 3 years of mintage and can easily buy them for under spot. I realize if I ever have to sell them I'll have to sell them for at or just under spot, no biggie.

I agree, that 90% coinage is the best way to buy fractional silver. But, in general it's not the cheapest way to stack. The premium on 90% is currently (2023) about the same as the premium on an ASE. Which is reasonable considering the scarcity of the commodity, and won't stop me from stacking it. It's also nonsensical to call it "junk" silver, dealers seriously need to quit that BS. I've got Dime, Quarter, and Half albums I've filled from so called junk silver purchases that only have key dates to leave empty holes. To me, 90% coinage is just a much more interesting form than bars, rounds, or even most governmentally issued silver bullion like ASEs or Maple Leafs. I've got some of that too, ASE's, a 10 ozt Kookaburra (pretty), 2023 dollars, and so on. The 90% is still top shelf to me for stacking. I sincerely wish it were a cheaper alternative like it was when they started calling it "junk", but it's NOT. The premiums on 90% coinage is the main factor that keeps many stackers away from 90% coinage, equivalent to that of ASEs and a substantial part of their melt value. 4:17 ASE's are real money too. Their face value is $1 each legal tender, and spending one at face value is not too much worse than spending a Franklin Half at face value. I hate to say it, but your #3 reason is the product of survivalist nutcase logic. Still, 90% coinage is the best way to own fractional silver. Even if the economy were to collapse they'll still be seen as silver, NOT face value. Perhaps 90% coinage will become the defacto currency in a post-apocalyptic world, but we don't know that. I know, you own a coin shop and you're trying to sell the coins, but your Pro #3 went off the rails, IMO, even though it is a well known selling point. Years ago, I had a good LCS who allowed me to cherry pick trays like you laid out for this video. Those were the good old days. I'd sit around with the owners and chew the fat, leisurely looking through the coins, make my stack and pay when I left. Of course, spot was below $10 back then. Nowadays there's no local shop that is that laid back. Con #1 is understated. You can buy a bullion ASE for about $10 over spot, and $1.40 of 90% will also cost about $10 over spot.

You can purchase 90% silver proof; State, ATB and US Territory quarters for the same price as junk silver quarters and these are 10X better looking, with mirrored fields and highly frosted surfaces. Your LCS sells these in rolls or bulk. Many silver stackers are not aware of this.

I think that it is important to buy silver that is attractive. Old worn out coins, esp those with no dates will not be that easy to trade or sell. Better to pay a little more and get coins in very good and better condition. Silver Washington Quarters are low in price currently. Buy only from a reputable dealer, NOT private EBay sellers who often switch products and sell you real junk, not junk silver.

20x is a little high. Since I would be taxed, I would be paying more than 17.4x, yet I don't want to pay over $1800 for worn down coins. If they guarantee VF at worse, great, but don't expect to get many of that grade or better. Buff rounds would be better if cheap is the goal.

That was an example price for the video. Actual prices today in the shop were considerably less. Not sure what MM is but the 17.4x you quoted is essentially wholesale pricing. Thanks for watching.

@@minotcoinbullion MM is Monument Metals. The 17.4x is for $100 face worth. I admit that it seems like a good deal, but I never buy Constitutional halves, quarters, or dimes in bulk online because I prefer to cherry pick, which my lcs lets me do. I don't care for cull/slick that has no numismatic value to a collector.

At 20x face, six quarters,a little over an ounce would cost $30. Silver today is $21.50, plus your $4 premium, makes one troy ounce of silver $25.50. There is no advantage anymore to buying junk silver. The raised price makes it exactly what it is named, junk.Bartering makes no sense, as you can't spend silver at a store, mainly because the cashiers will not be able to figure it out, and the fluctuation in silver value can not be kept up with on a minute to minute basis.Constitutional silver has been turned into JUNK silver because of greed. There is absolutely no reason that an ounce of junk silver should cost more than a generic ounce, especially since it was way cheaper than an ounce a few years ago.When people started buying it up, greed took over, and the price doubled. Don't get me wrong, I love junk silver, and have a small amount, but when the prices go past the price of a generic Troy ounce, no thanks, you can keep it.I want the most silver I can get for my money, that's also why I don't buy Eagles.I am buying sulver for weight, not a pretty bird, or for bartering, because bartering can only work between neighbors, not at retail stores.

I've been saying exactly same thing for years. I cannot for the life of me figure out why non rich people buy eagles. Been stacking since 2016 or so. Hmmmm, First off I love the 90 percent silver. I have stacked it for over 35 years now and have quite a hoard. The .715 added on top... well, I would want to see the premium YOU paid PRIOR to adding anything else on top..... I mean, making a profit is fine, but lets be fair about it all.... eBay is the BEST place to buy 90% silver and we all know it by now. Heck, I just gave UNDER spot price for eight rolls of quarters on eBay today....
@minotcoinbullion
@minotcoinbullion Жыл бұрын
In order to calculate the actual silver weight of a 90% silver US dime, quarter, or half dollar you take the face value of the coin multiplied by .715 to give you the actual silver weight of the coin. The .715 is not an added premium.
