Got a 2000 Accord SE for free a year ago. A friend going to junk it for $200, but gave to me instead. The car was immaculate inside. Had a few issues. Blown head gasket, needed a tuneup, needed a new radiator and leaked oil from the solenoid and the water pump. All in all, i spent about $1400 to fix everything. The car now runs perfect. Solid car. Th best part, when i got it, it only had 115k on it. The original owner drove an average of 4.5k a year. Wasn’t driven hard at all.

My mother in law just gave my son her old 2001 Accord EX with 100,000 miles on it. The paint is clean as it was always garaged. We just washed, clayed, fallout removed, polished and ceramic coated it. The interior looks new. I changed all of the lights to led, installed a double din Pioneer with Apple Play, backup camera, front/rear dash cams, all weather mats and footwell lights. The car just had all fluids changed, new to timing belt, water pump, catalytic converter, brakes, rotors and tires. Hoping to be able to drive it for another 100K.

@@Dranfusion what engine and gearbox do you have in yours? Ive the f18b2 hooked to a 5 speed manual in mine. 230,000 miles on the clock. Its in storage for now but it'll see road again in a few years. Its been in my family since new, in fact both of my parents remember the day and following 2 to 3 years after buying it. At the time, everyone in the family had the usual late 70s to early 90s shitboxes so the accord (LS 1.8i trim level) was like a space ship in almost all aspects back then. It never lost THAT feel to it over its 25 year life span. Always solid on the road but not rattly or too harsh. Comfy seats. Good steering and a very snappy precise gearbox which still goes through all gears beautifully. The last generation of the real hondas if you ask me. Absolutely love them

I have owned one of these (2002 SE sedan 4 cylinder) since September 2004 and it now has 124,000 miles on it. I am having the original struts replaced next Monday as it still runs very well. I have not had any transmission issues at all. It has been a reliable car and only left me stranded once when the radiator failed (very common with all cars which use aluminum radiators with plastic crimped on tanks). Fortunately I was able to get to a service station and get a bus home. There is a lot of aftermarket support for this generation as so many of them were made. Used parts are also relatively easy to find compared to other brands.

@@elalc1938 Definitely obey the service interval on the timing belt. Change it without fail, and since you're in there you might as well hit the water pump at the same time. You do NOT want to break a timing belt at speed on the 2.3L. It's an interference design (piston and valve travel overlap in the cylinder) and a busted timing belt means bent valves and maybe holed pistons

I bought my 5 speed 2000 honda accord for about $1000, it came with around 220k miles. However, I discovered the engine had been swapped for a newer version. So the body roughly has 220k and an engine around 190k. Unfortunately, the previous owner didn't really keep up with maintenance so I had to put about $500 into it. I put about 5k miles on it and haven't had any engine-related issues, now I only need to replace shocks and tires. In my opinion, it's a solid car if maintenance was kept up to date but if not expect to put at least $800 into the car.

Drove a 1999 Accord EX 2.3L between 2006 and 2016. Ran it from 94k up to 275,000 miles. This model had the A/C drain pipe directly over the subframe so that was not an easy fix as the sub frame needed to be replaced. Other than that, the expected replacement parts like ball joints, radiator, radiator hoses, pump relay board (solder fix) etc. These are great cars. Sold mine for $800 in 2016 to some high school kid. Drove like a dream for a standard 4dr economy car. Could feel the road back then. Can't feel the road even with a 2005 Honda Accord. They just don't make them like they used to.
@hayzeusare9412
@hayzeusare9412 Жыл бұрын
Yeah the A/C drainage fault messes it all up. Subframe always getting attack with the A/C water, dirt salt with heat humid build up as result. To fix just extend the A/C drainage with a hose and clap to tighten in place, directing out of way of subframe, right to the floor. If your subframe is rotted out, must have to fix that. If you're lucky everything solid, nothing to worry. Just make sure it clean and spray rust protection after. The hose extention should prevent further issues. This happened to me as well. This is a common for all same models. I would add to list of recall if it we're me making decisions to be frank.

I've been driving a Gen6 Accord for almost 20 years now. It's an 01 LX sedan with about 267k miles on it. The transmission did eat itself last Christmas, but a replacement was easily snagged online, and while it was a tedious job without an engine hoist, I got the clutch and trans swapped out on my driveway. Like most transverse mount front drives it's not always the easiest car to work on, but the 2.3L is a pretty bulletproof engine. One issue I have run into is that it's hard to find some parts, like for example suspension bushings. Most of the rear bushings are worn out on my car. I eventually had to custom order a set, but it was a lot cheaper than replacing all the rear suspension arms. Now I just need to find the time to pull everything apart and get the old bushings pressed out (one job like this will comfortably justify the relatively minor expense of the Harbor Freight 20 ton press. :D

Honda made the automatic transmission in this series designed to slip between the gears. There is no fix for it other than rebuilding it. Look it up. The manual transmission is great. I bought a 98 5 speed at 75,000 miles. It's at 235,000 now and running great. It think it's still on the original clutch. Junk yards have a lot of these, so I can find replacement body parts in the same color. KZbin has tons of videos on fixing it. I'm 6'2" and can stretch out my legs for a nap. A friend working as a mechanic at a Toyota dealership told me that after 2005 cars become electronic nightmares and hard to work on. 200,000. I've had the car for 12 years. Never left me stranded. No major mechanical issues. I wish, I knew how to take care of cars when I got it. FYI: Tranmission solenoids are on the outside. No transmission filter. Power Steering Rack and Pinion needs replacing (Use Honda OEM Power Steering Fluid). Labor not cheap or part. 200,000 mi. Crank Shaft Seal needs replacing, leaking oil. Labor not cheap, but cheap part. 200,000 mi. My engine mounts like to break but the mounts are not difficult to replace. Buy a car engine code reader.

Mine has stranded me twice. First time the fuel level sender got stuck or something and the gas gauge was reading high. Ran my stupid self out of gas trying to make it just one exit further. :D Second time (I didn't pull the old gearbox apart to be sure but it's a reasonable guess) a shifter fork broke of on a 4-5 upshift. I couldn't get the car into 5th, and the next time I had to stop the car for a traffic light the busted part made its way into the geartrain and jammed the 'box up solid. Had to get it towed home after that little mishap, and replacing the transmission and clutch was a bit of a chore, but I'm almost a year and oh, 25k miles past that little mishap.
