Those were the days! I always liked the old Honda interiors, the feel of the switches, the textures of the plastics, leather and dash. The simple laid out designs and the 2 tone contrasting colors. In my opinion they were the best for the time and the price.

I had the 2002 EX sedan (the tail end of this generation). I gave it away to my mechanic after 200,000 miles because the automatic transmission was acting up; the last time I checked though, the car is still going strong with a new owner. Well here are my thoughts on Hondas of that time. It is well establiahed that at least the Accords and Civics during the early 90s were some of their best. I purchased a 98 Civic brand new and after 20k miles, it started to have problems: automatic started slipping, cracked radiator, engine mounts, and even the converter/manifold cracked before 90k miles. Mine was the LX so maybe the EX was built better. Fast forward to the Hondas and it was a mixed bag. One of my friends never complained about the transmission, but had engine problems. Another friend, the reverse. Same version of this Accord being reviewed. I was informed by a import mechanic that Honda in an attempt to keep up production sub contracted alot of their work: powertrains. Even some of the engines had to be recalled due to bad piston rings. Of course, a contractor will try to squeeze as much 🙄 profit as possible. Nothing new, but this why some Honda model years were better than others. Then again, Honda has had some issues with their 9 and 10 speeds as well. One of my friends, had an Odyssey and it easily went over 250k miles so some were good and some bad.

Currently, I own a 2017 Honda Accord Coupe with the V6 and the 6-speed manual. The J35Y2 is a powerful engine that unfortunately wheels spins all the way up to 3rd gear. It pulls hard. It's a coupe but is very spacious. It's big but doesn't look large and will not be mistaken for a sedan. It's beautiful. Compared to so many other cars, the Accord is almost magical because its spacious, powerful, beautiful, incredibly reliable, and not overly expensive. It's a little bit of the best of everything. However, there is one major downfall to the Accord Coupe. It killed the Honda Prelude. Personally, I would like to see the return of the Accord Coupe (or a slightly larger Civic) as the Prelude. Make it smaller and wider, and put the glorious K20C ripping to 320HP and of course a 6-speed manual (or even Honda/Acura incredible 8-speed DCT). One last horra before electrification comes to the forefront.
