As the fastest growing illegal business in the world, human trafficking has profound influences here in the United States. Through sympathetic understanding and awareness, both socially & legally, the average American can positively impact what has become the worst human right violation, slavery.
Ryan Brooks is a third year law student at Rutgers School of Law - Newark. His academic focus, both as an undergraduate and law student, has been international law, legal and political theory, and global policy. Ryan recently worked for the Rutgers International Human Rights Clinic, with a specific focus on issues pertaining to human trafficking. Mr. Brooks is currently pursuing positions as an international legal consultant. He is currently a J.D.Candidate at Rutgers School of Law-Newark.

I've found this to be soberingly and consistently absolute. I'm afraid that like is typical with humans, until a problem is so bad it literally cannot be ignored, it probably will not be addressed.

100% correct. I started to researching about human trafficking after I heard about that ever single day between 30-50 Million files of child trafficking are counted.... that's only about the trafficking what we know about!!! The first what I realised was that there aren't any informations or reports in the Internet, compared to a daily interaction of 30 - 50 Million files of childporntrafficing... I started to search in the German spoken areas and found a closed act of a German court case named "Sachsensumpf". Involved highly leved people from Justice, Politics, Police, Economic, Bureaucracy.... when you read you know why there no informations anywhere. the process was in progress from 1993 - 2018.

@@SS-fj2kl Human trafficking is currently the fastest growing criminal industry in the world right now, set to soon overtake guns and drugs in total revenue generated. And yes, all of our statistics are likely underestimated given that we can never gauge a full picture of what's happening since a lot of it is self-supporting and not documented.

@@ParadymShiftVegan yeah I hear and read the last few days about this. This is so contrary compared to the consciousness of the masses. So many people don't feel responsible without facing that issue for one's, and if they do yout almost the same response. 2005 - I wrote down, the International Labor Organisationen estimated 30 Billion dollar in their Report. 2015 - 150 Billionen. As you said. So I for my self feel responsible and as more everyone get confronted and involved as more you cut down them the air and space.

Great talk Ryan. Brings some very needed awareness and followup discussion. One thing - You should consider referring to US Citizens as "Citizens" - not "consumers" - because you (likely unintentionally) diminish the responsibility that We Citizens have. Just a thought.

“As humans, we have a duty to be informed enough that we can demand action from those who are in a place to take it” “Be an informed consumer. Be an activist consumer”. May we all grow to better fulfill those ideals, even if it is little by little.

Thanks to Ryan - This is such an important issue. We need to educate each other on this. And our young. We need societies to be aware - and supply citizents with jobs that support a healthy lifestyle. Noone deserves a life on the streets or in prostitution.

Could have been a great talk if they talk had not deviated into the silliness of the law/policy rather than going into the actual issues of slavery, which would occur and does occur no matter what laws say or do not say.

Seems to me that a thorough crackdown on illegal immigration would make a huge dent in human trafficking. Stop the flow of illegals, deport all illegals who are already here, and those who traffic humans would have little to no source of said humans to traffic.....

we the end consumer can stop cheap labor human trafficking by choosing not to buy products that use cheap labor by human trafficking. but how can we stop prostitution? Tell all the men not to buy prostitutes. That's the only way. And how's that ever be possible since prostitution is the oldest labor, as old as humankind exist. but still, we can try.
