Hey, check out the video on the ImpalaFX13, titled "Mobil 1 vs Penzoil vs Amsoil vs Toyota OEM 0w-16" this guy sends off samples of new oil from each to have their additive packages analyzed at a lab. Toyota OEM oil has 10x the dry lubrication additive molybdenum than the next closest competitor. Interesting concept for a video and very informative. I've been following the recommendations of that Nissan head engineer who says to change your oil every 3000-3500 miles. He said that's actually when today's synthetic oils start to break down and engine wear begins. I did a break in at 1000 miles, then another at 4500 miles then again at 6800.

Interesting video and good comparison. I learnt from the motor oil geek that the base oil has a lot to do with the additive package. Basically, a good base oil may not need so much of a particular additive. Not sure what base oil Toyota OEM uses. I might be towing that 3500 mile OCI advise!

You can say that again! Mate, I couldn't believe the torque on the drain bolt of a shop/dealer-serviced 2013 Rav4 that changed the oil on! It was only my impact wrench that broke it free and it wasn't easy. You would think I was trying to burst an axle nut!

I had stopped doing my own oil changes because of the hassle. Jack the car, crawl underneath, get messy, etc.... I bought a late model used Audi last year, and it was designed so oil changes can be done using an oil extractor, and the filter is on top. Now I do my own oil chances every 5k miles instead of the suggested 10k miles, for way less money and less time.

@@DIYAutoworksNG I'm not that bad. I gave up on oil changes long ago, but I still do my own air filters, brakes, plugs and other random shadetree stuff. When I got my Audi, I decided to change the oil more frequently than the recommended 10k, then learned it was designed to be done from up top. Got myself an oil extractor and I do my own oil every 5k miles. Filter and oil costs about $55-$60, and takes no more than 20 minutes. So much cheaper and easier than taking to the dealer, who charges $150 for the same thing.

Im going to be honest here. You're a baby lol. Oil changes are extremely easy if you do it right. You don't have to get messy if you do everything right. It's one of the easiest maintenance things to do yourself.

@@IamJay02 I used to do my own oil changes all the time, but I'm old enough that dealing with an under-car oil change just isn't worth it to me. I've had bad shoulders for years, and am now 6 months post-op. I can afford to have someone do it, but I also enjoy mechanical things. My Audi is so easy, that it doesn't make sense to spend hours and hundreds of dollars when I can do it myself in about 20 minutes with zero clean up. If you think that makes me a baby, that's your problem.

Always done them myself for as long as I can remember. One exception, with a brand new Saturn, I found myself in Florida, with the due mileage approaching. 1500 miles to home, so I took it to the Saturn dealer. About 8 or so miles up the road, I heard a cluck under the car, and saw saw this huge vapor cloud of motor oil behind me. I coasted in to the next exit where there was a service station. I called the dealership, which sent out a wrecker and towed it back. It seems the tech, failed to tighten the drain plug, which wiggled itself out. I got an apology, and a free full detailing out of it. I haven't failed to do my own since.

Here in the states we refer to dealerships as stealerships due to some of the unethical practices with their service departments. As much as I'd like to do my own oil changes, I simply don't have the tools or the time to do them. I've got a great auto shop I use, oil change service is very reasonably priced using mobile One full synthetic.

Right. The stealership term lives on. Lol. It's everywhere. A good independent shop in my opinion is better for most things, though you still have some good dealerships.

I've always had 2nd hand cars, and it just didn't feel worth it to pay for someone to unscrew a plug and a filter, and pour some oil into a hole. So the past 6 years I've only changed my own cars oil, and now my girlfriends car's oil as well. I know there's a shop here that uses "good quality oil" - But haven't found out what oil he uses, and to me that just sounds it's whatever he can buy in bulk. I like knowing what's going into my vehicle, the money I save on labor can go to better quality oil anyway. Especially when it's so easy to do, and so hard to mess up.

You can say that again. Got a used car recently that uses a paper filter. While doing it's first oil change, was horrified to find that the center steel tube for the oil filter housing was missing. Not just that, I had to use an impact wrench for the oil drain bolt. I'm almost sure an impact wrench was used to put it on! Service history showed it had several oil changes at a dealership, though some weren't there.

Hey man, regular follower of your videos for a while. My honda fit ivtech 2021 is having a minor misfire whenever rpm reaches between 1600- 1700 rpm. After 1700rpm, car runs smooth ! Idling is smooth. We feel as if cylinder imbalance at this rpm. No check engine light. This misfire happens in the morning cold. After running for 5-10kms, turn the car off n start again misfire disappears. Then whole day no misfire.. car ran only 20k miles. Changed coils, cleaned MAF, MAP, plugs, egr and throttle body, changed oil n filter. Same. Fuel highway mileage is excellent. If we keep car running at idle, it drinks fuel like anything.. No pickup issues. Honda guys even did compression test which was all gud. No smoke. What should I look for ? M clueless ! If we connect scanner n look for live data, we can see random misfire counts from cylinder 1 to 4. But number are not constant in each drive cycle. Please suggest if you have some clues. :(

I shit you not after I change the oil the engine immediately runs smooth and normal, mpg jump back to 60 I don't trust any of them anymore, I would now DIY all my services and will never hand my car to one of them crooks
