Following you guys, so pleased you made it to Southern Africa and to see the natural beauty of Botswana, it’s on my doorstep of South Africa, but I have not been there yet. Got the Defender now so no excuse anymore. Enjoy the wildlife, no fences!!!!

Loved it! Amazing place. If you get the chance - go! Not too expensive (cheaper than SA), relatively safer, and huge open spaces, lots of elephants! And mostly 4x4's around 👍 Thanks for the comment! Lekker bly! 😎

Thank you so much. Have loved this - real (really really real) and No music. Peace & quiet, wilderness & tranquility - superb. Your delight at all you found, discovered and saw was fabulous & infectious (& a real delight). I found this very helpful to us as a piece of Research (ideas, routes, Camp Sites, Driving times etc etc) - we are in serious planning mode for an epic Overland - NBO to CPT (6 Countries) in a bespoke heavily modified Land Cruiser 4x4 with Tent on Roof ........ so - which Maps did you find the best and How did you deal with Advanced Bookings of Camps/Lodges. We will not be able to Book 3 days ahead, much less 3 months. Thnx (again).

Glad you enjoyed it! I am #jealousnotjealous of your trip😀🤘. I spent a long time on google maps to try and plan a route that would give us the most mileage as we only had one week! Booking was done through the 4x4 rental agency (which doesn't help you much I guess.. However, Okavango River Lodge, Chobe Safari Lodge, Elephant Sands, Big Fig Inn can all be booked on their websites. Chobe and Moremi booking through the national parks. We were there end of November just ahead of the heavy rains and as you saw - in half of the camps we were the only guests so it will depend on what time of year you plan on doing your trip (in the blazing heat of summer!). We had only the Garmin with Tracks4Africa installed (besides a borrowed Chobe guidebook). It got us where we needed to go 👍 Border crossings were quite painless and we were surprised that the currency was stronger than the ZAR. If it is of help I have written some blog on the trip (here's one): asimplyfab.life/journal/botswana-4x4-self-drive-tips-observations/ We are planning a Nam/Bot/Zim trip next year (can't wait). So if you do a video I will be signing up to watch that one for our own research 😀👍Good luck, enjoy and remember the three senses: humour, adventure & common! Cheers

FYI - Botswana is not the only country in the world where roads double as airstrips! In Australia this is COMMON... The Royal Flying Doctor Service uses these strips cum roads on a daily basis! And Australia is an out-and-out developed nation!

Hi, this was a rental in South Africa. Would have loved to drive down from France but we were pushed for time (only a week). As mentioned this was the cheapest vehicle you could rent - and we were curious too about how Toyota has conquered Africa. Now we know... Pepe has been waiting patiently for us to re-start and finish the build - we have been working and travelling a lot! We started again last weekend and are waiting for materials and parts to be delivered (considering the present state of the world this take some time...) Will do an update soon. Thanks for the comment 👍

A great video thanks for posting. I did a two week self drive camping safari in Namibia in October 2022. I'm thinking of Botswana for July/August 2024. If you ever go to Namibia, I'd highly recommend Spitzkoppe Community Campsite and a day trip to Sandwich Harbour near Swakopmund. Thanks again for post, greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪

Hi. We rented from SA4X4Rentals in Jhb - here’s a link to the walk around of the Hilux. Total cost will be about R20 000 incl. rental, campsite fees, diesel, paperwork, beers etc. But this was about three years ago now.

Great 50th birthday experience. Awesome video of your trip and very informative. How much fuel did you carry from Maun to get you through to 3rd Bridge and then onto Savuti? Did you manage to drive around the 3rd Bridge area, or did you spend the time enjoy the serenity? We have been planning this trip (from Oz) for 2 years, postponed in 2020. Hopefully, 2022 will the year. If you have footage of your water crossing in Moremi, please upload them. Keep walking confidently on the path you have imagined (HDT).
@ASimplyFabLife3 жыл бұрын
Hi Quentin. Cheers for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the video! There's a link in the description to our blog post that gives all the info, along with seperate posts on each day and campsite. For fuel consumption specifically - the vehicle we rented had 2 x 70 ltr fuel tanks. I think most similar rentals have the same. We fueled in Maun, drove to Third Bridge, on to Savuti Camp and then to Kasane. Because we only had one week - on a tight schedule - we did not do any other driving in the parks (besides getting a bit lost in Moremi 😜). As an indication - on full fuel from Maun we topped up at about 70 litres around Ngoma Bridge (roughly 40kms before Kasane). Which gives an indication (as you know) that offroad consumption skyrockets - let's call it 1ltr/5kms - but you have plenty of fuel onboard, and Botswana has a better infrastructure (thanks to the tourism) than you may think at first glance... Loved every precious minute of it. Would do it again in a heartbeat - we are planning a longer trip to Nam, Bots, Zim next year or the one after... Have fun! 🤘😎 Hamba Kahle (Zulu)
