I have owned gerbils, hamsters, and mice. But i also have cats so I cant have any wired cages (cats can stick there claws through) also all my cages are kinda short so climbing is limited. So due to their cage needs i dont think this would be the right pet for me. 😊 but i loved the video!

Unfortunately, there is quite a bit of misinformation in here. Much of the housing is appalling. Degus should never have mesh floors or wheels as they can develop a painful condition called bumblefoot. Wheels with cross-braces are unsafe. Body parts can be caught in between the cross brace and the support bar which has caused many injuries and even death. Degus need length in a cage and mulitiple full floors. So many of the cages shown are far too small. Much of the food shown is not healthy. I could go on. Please check a reputable forum, like Degus International Community or Degu and Chinchilla World for more accurate information.

U can't feed them pellets!!! They develop tooth problems from pellets! They should only be fed hay, leaves, flowers and seeds. As snacks you can give them nuts or sunflower seeds. Also they need a lot of space and a wheel big enough for them so they don't develop misdevelopements. Also everything plastic is a big problem, they chew everything, also chew resistent plastic. So the cage should only consist of wood, glass or metal.

What if some of the males have to be separated bc of fights? Should u have that Degus separated at all times then? I work at a reptile store and we got rodent too & we've had this happen recently some months ago. It seems to be doing fine by itself tho, i guess it's kinda rare in that case to have them live alone probably due to aggressive/territorial behaviour?
