id recommend using banks monster ram for emissions regulations alone, there's also the newly routed fuel line, and lastly Banks Customer Service if needed. Gale also has a video explaining that the monster ram had the additional surprise benefit of replacing the grid heater with a screw in one and new intake plate thus getting rid of this issue(glad you mentioned banks). When you spend 10k+ on a decent truck, $1000-$1500(tune, install, part cost if you dont do it*) is an easy investment. Good Video highlighting an easy to fix design flaw that is easily missed.

I am running no grid heater on my 6.7. I have started mine down to -16F without plugging in and sitting out all night. It chugs for about 10 seconds and then runs fine. If I lived in the far north where temps are regularly below -20F for longer periods of time, it is probably a good idea to have the aftermarket one. If you live in the south, just get rid of it. You can disable any codes.

Unless you run a massive tune, that stock intake is more than enough. The air filter restricts more air than that heater. That inline heater set up is more restrictive than the factory heater. That engine under stock tune gets plenty of airflow. Just a point that I feel should have been made. Tuned up it may require more air. As a solution to the bolt that drops in less than one tenth of 1 percent, about 1 in 1500 trucks, it's a great solution.
@DIYKAI
@DIYKAI Жыл бұрын
The inline heater we run has less surface cross interference than the stock…marginal but still better lol…your right as far as the stock air system doing just fine to around 400 or so HP after that just chasing lower EGTs by having a denser colder charge

10000 dollar lottery win if it damages the block/cylinders and the head, even if it's 1 in every 1500 trucks, I don't want to win that lottery. I wouldn't play that game if it was 1 in every 10000 trucks.

Unless there is a machined head to allow for more air flow, parts like a larger intake horn or removing the element from the intake manifold (grid heater), you aren't increasing air to the cylinder. The limiting point of air flow is the head itself. You are providing more air to the head but there is the same amount of air getting into the cylinder. Obviously this doesn't account for the soot buildup.
@DIYKAI
@DIYKAI 2 жыл бұрын
Soot was about 1/4 in thick lol when it was stock
@DIYKAI
@DIYKAI 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct all we did was free up flow. In turn we are able to use more of the available power the motor has. With a little fuel added it makes for a very reliable ride we just took it on a 2k non-stop journey. MPG was up and it ran like a sewing machine. Thanks for the comment!
@OrionTheOwtlaw
@OrionTheOwtlaw Жыл бұрын
you are simply wrong, even though the engine is turbocharged the cylinder intake strokes still create a vacuum, albeit, that is is quickly equalized and then filled with boost pressure. getting rid of choke points will reduce boost pressure because flow is better. That results in a greater volume of air getting to the intake valve seat itself, ready to be vacuumed and then boosted into the cylinder. watch banks videos. if they larger intake horns did nothing for efficiency and airflow they wouldnt be selling.
@DIYKAI
@DIYKAI Жыл бұрын
All engines are air pumps all we want is to move in and out the quickest and most efficient. Free up choke points and the motor runs smoother. Larger pipes and smoother radius just allows for a large volume of air siting waiting to be used if needed. The truck get phenomenal fuel mileage and has tons of power so we think it’s worth it

@@DIYKAI yeah, Mr. Poindexter might be the type of guy to miss out alot of good things in life. Especially if he thinks this relatively cheap mod has no benefits with air flow. Kind of crazy when you think about it, after watching all the points you made.

Wait ? you bought the generic intake ram horn ? and the grid heater delete plate ? and the aftermarket grid heater alternative ..... ? 3 different components instead of simply biting the bullet and buying the banks ram horn that has an alternative grid heater installed and flows 2 times better then that generic ram horn that has a massive blockage design flaw ? Those 3 items you purchased probably are still cheaper then the banks ram horn but how much power did you throw away to save a few bucks ? if it was all about removing the grid heater from the equation so it doesn't fail all you had to do was disconnect the feed wire from the solenoid and cover it with black tape .. 5 cents worth approximately.
@DIYKAI
@DIYKAI 2 жыл бұрын
So the intake ram is huge can fit our fist into it…..the grid heater plate sits higher and has more area for volume (maybe it helps maybe it don’t) all 3 components come from the same American company…..banks uses a screw in one maybe it good maybe it’s not? The grid heater we replaced is like the 5.9 one and was moved inline further down so there is really now intake restriction we can see….it has more ports for accessories….I highly doubt 2xs the flow….it was definitely way cheaper we got a deal and we don’t have the EGR port that could potentially leak under high boost…. Yes you could definitely just remove the hot wire but we cleaned everything along the way found a few injector cups loose lol. Either way we see way lower EGTs and about 4 more MPG city and making about 20MPG highway…..1400 rear wheel torque so power lose is not an issue either lol Thank for watching

This whole intake is a poor design from Cummins/RAM in my opinion: 1. The grid heater is a huge airflow restriction and every restriction in the air intake of a turbodiesel is bad and lowers engine efficiency. 2. This intake does nothing to aid even distribution of charge air across the cylinders. I know its all pressurized by the turbo but still I would expect more.

The way that you're measuring the intake elbow volume is shockingly wrong. You cannot compare a circles diameter to a rectangles width. Please do not pick up engineering.

I'm not and this is for normal people reference thanks for your comment though....

@@DIYKAI normal people deserve correct numbers. A 3" diameter circle has a surface area of 7.07 in^2 (14.14 in^2 for both, whereas the 2.96" wide rectangle, say 6" long is 17.76 in^2. Pretty significant difference.

Um yea you need to look up prices before you make comments……this is a Glacier Diesel set up…..and for those of us who live in communist free states we don’t need to use Banks systems to stay compliant…..do your homework before commenting

@@dankoldenhoven4997 Your absolutely correct. Now we understand if you live in a state that requires inspection to drive. Then yes, those type of products will be the best option for them. You pay the high price for those items. But if you can get them for half the price with the same if not more gains, then why not. lol🍻

Seems like it we have to check may have got it on sale or something but either way it's an excellent American made product as well. Spoke with the owners they are super nice dudes. It will ultimately come down to custom service we can only speak for Glacier and it's A1
