I absolutely agree. I am 54 and I have been filming my life since I was 14 years old and I have kept every single photo and every second of footage. From this footage I have made multiple films - The Barham Warriors, Planet X, Trinket Crumpler, Thursdaddy, Honey Moon Safari plus many more. Every time I create a film I invite everyone who was in it and their friends to come and see it and the results are always the same. Tears, laughter and joy. I hope you go on to enjoy many more years of filming your life because for me it has brought endless joy. Well done. Just subscribed.

@@maride95 It's quite a process. All of my physical media (tapes / film) I store in a place that is cool, dark and dry and dust free and I write the date of filming on the tape along with a small description. I am slowly digitising all of my footage onto hard drives which is what I would suggest to you. The most important thing is to keep a back up of that hard drive. ie: two hard drives containing the same files. I label each digital file by date in reverse order and a brief description of what the footage is of - ie: 20230101_FamilyZooTrip - that way the files all sit in order of date filmed.

I have this weird feeling of "doing something wrong" everytime I think of documenting aspects of my life nowadays, even though I want to and wouldn't have to share with anyone. It is called artistic resistance which is typical of any creative person. They are ALWAYs between two choices: 1) not to create for the fear of being imperfect and then living with this pain of never self-actualizing creatively, 2) taking a step with that imperfection and being perfect in their trying. I feel the same way. Its okay to have certain feelings towards things. Where im learning to compromise on that so it doesn't hinder my life is that not everything in our personal lives has to be put on the internet. We can choose what creations we want to put out to the world & which ones we would like to keep to ourselves so both ends get fed. We are forever creative, so I'm trying to also learn to feed the side of releasing our creations out to the world for them to benefit for. Who its for is who its for, who its not isnt. Friends & family opinions matter the least because they can often be biased with the image they have of you & tie that to your work, let the world speak for your craft.

I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

Just because someone doesn't have a piece of paper as a credential, doesn't mean that person is not entitled to share personal experiences with the hope & intention to inspire others. Keep up with whatever it is that you're doing to improve mankind or improving your life even to a slight degree each day. This is just one part of a bigger puzzle for creating my KZbin channel about holistic health. Implementing the lessons I learned throughout the years of lots of trials and errors changed my life trajectory and learning that there’s a yin and yang in everything or proton and electron in an atom because opposites attract, which means a night won’t exist without a day because they’re codependent and that’s just the nature of life. I wouldn’t have appreciated the power of kindness if someone was not cruel to me. I wouldn’t have realized the importance of growth if I didn’t see myself stagnating. I wouldn’t have appreciated the importance of health if I didn’t get sick. I wouldn’t have realized the importance of real love if I haven’t witnessed my parents’ relationship slowly fall apart. I wouldn’t have appreciated the importance of mindful money consumption if I wasn’t broke. I wouldn’t have appreciated the growth of my KZbin channel if I didn’t start at 0.

I'm glad that I'm foolish enough to believe that I can actually start making money through my passions. I've never thought that I'd be able to gain more than 2k subs faster. I can't imagine how many opportunities could have been wasted if I didn't have courage to go after them. That includes having this channel, being in a management role, having the people who actually care about me for who I am, freelance gigs, being an ambassador in a creative community and now I'm also planning on honing my public speaking skills through joining a toastmaster club and these all happened in 2023. It started with writing them all down on a piece of paper. A paper that serves as a reminder for me to go after what I want even through hard times. I'm not bragging about my accomplishments but simply hoping that this message can also inspire others to believe in themselves.

“Outwitted time” is one of coolest expressions of video I’ve ever heard. Perfect articulation of how it feels to watch home movies of when we were kids. This was incredible. Growing up, I had an uncle that had a camcorder that was used at all of my birthday parties and holiday events that my family put on. I used to re-watch those moments again and again growing up, getting to re-live those experiences, but also cementing them into my memory with a clarity not afforded by my memory alone. I'll have to look into digitizing those old VHS tapes before they degrade beyond salvaging. It's nice to look back on, for the memories, but also to see what it was like to record the moments we genuinely cared about and get lost in those memories. Even here on KZbin, I find that the videos my friends posted way back in the late 00's are some of my favorite to go back to. It's not because they have good cinematography or edits, just because it's a great way to remember a moment in my life with more clarity. Thank you so much for this, I really needed it today.

My grandparents literally recorded everything my mom did growing up, from baby until she went off to college, the little project ends with her graduating college. It's really cool to see my mom in so many different stages of her life and how awesome it is to get to watch something like that. I'm glad this showed up in my recommended Side note: before the RRC badge showed up, during the forest scenes I thought to myself "that looks a lot like Winnipeg"; I spent a lot of time in the Winnipeg forests as a kid. This video was super well done! The story telling, the emotions, the conveyance, all of it absolutely blew me away. I've been interested in videography/photography for a pretty long time, but never really invested much of any real strong effort into actually capturing most moments in my life, because as of right now I'm in probably the most stagnant, boring, uninteresting point in my life that I've been in. I've been doing so much research on different kinds of cameras, and I'm still doing more to look into it, but I really do want to grow and make some personal changes that will be great for my mental and physical well-being. There's a lot going on I am wishing to change in my life, there's so many different goals and ideas coursing through my mind, and I want nothing more than to try and achieve some of those goals, even if my mind makes things feel overwhelming when it all wants to come out at once. I can very much so relate to not really having strong amounts of focus on the things that I am not very passionate about, but the things that I am passionate about, I like to hyperfixate on. I think it's not a bad thing as long as I focus on taking care of myself in the creative process. this video really touched my heart. my grandpa was like your dad, he was always recording my childhood and my mom's childhood on his camcorder. when my mom was home alone with me she'd also record little parts of our day: making cookies, playing outside, playing with toys in the living room--it's all stuff i hold near to me now at 19 years old. but this video, in the two times i've watched it, made me realize i too have all the parts, i just didn't know how to put them together until now. thank you for this video.

We have identical experiences, it's wild. I decided to start documenting life through photos last year, and this year I decided to starting filming again. It's only been 2 weeks, but it's made a monumental impact on me. I found myself struggling to remember anything that had happened in the last 5 years, and I realized 5 years ago is when I stopped documenting with film. I'm so hopeful that in 2030 I can look back at the last 5 years and actually remember the details, the smells, the tastes and the textures from the experiences that make up my life.

i'm a creator who just started last week. saw some early traction, but that's plateau'd now. i am so inspired seeing - and being reminded - that we all come from somewhere. i started this channel as a way to find some form of fulfillment in things i love most - cooking and storytelling. every day - i ask myself: how do i feel turning a hobby into a job? what am i hoping to get out of this? part of that meaning is to show other people my thoughts and snippets and part of someone else's life that they normally would never see. that's what i'm hoping to achieve out of this. other days, i don't feel so inspired. i feel apathetic. and it hurts. but this pushes me to keep going. videos like these push me to keep going. it's a source of intrinsic motivation - sometimes all we want to do is sit back and watch what other people think about life. cheers - happy 2024!

This is really cool! I think the hardest part is to put myself even in this mindset! I mean, as for what to record and when... But maybe if I'd push myself to do it, eventually it would become more natural. That "excited dad with a film camera" mindset. I think it's hard because we're so overburdened with an information flow already that we rather scale back than immerse ourselves in it. But it's frustrating because I *want* to do this stuff. Thanks for the kind words, I agree it is tough to make yourself do it. When I was shooting it all last summer I kinda felt like I was being annoying occasionally or like I wasn't even sure how it was all going to come together but the cool thing is that whatever you capture, it IS going to be valuable to look back on, for you and for the people in your life. I get what you're saying about the oversaturation of information online right now, but it felt nice to try and capture everyday things with a bit more of an artistic eye, and using my camera instead of my phone sorta distanced myself from the "social media influencer-ness" of it all. It felt more like I was capturing something important, because it was important to *me*.

1:54 LOL I haven't habitually taken video on trips but was inspired by my brothers foray into video editing years ago, the past few trips I've taken, I've taken a lot more video than I traditionally have and have ended up going through the footage on my own time, and a couple of times I just started wondering if I could make a montage out of the trip set to music. It just organically would grow out of fun because of the shots and angles that would go with a chosen song and next thing I know I'd be sitting at my PC for 4-5 hours moving and cutting clips so they would fit my montage properly. I've made several trip montages since then and it can be exhausting work BUT its always fun to watch your finished product. Funny thing is... going on trips now... I tend to be THAT guy with my friend group because they know I'll be busting out my phone to video stuff haha
