I'm finally learning this lesson myself. As a Finn living in the US, when I recently visited Finland again I wanted to make a vlog about it, but I didn't know how to express the feeling of returning to an old home, and how I'd forgotten about the slow living habits I used to have when I still lived in Finland. I'm now in the process of scripting a voiceover to describe those feelings. This was a beautiful video & I hope you do indeed make enough income from KZbin eventually to keep traveling and adventuring! 💕
@OttiIie11 ай бұрын
Thank you 🤗 I hope you can translate those feelings in your video!!
@kassiaviva6 ай бұрын
I hope you can translate the feeling! I'm originally from Germany but have lived in many different countries in Europe and now in the US I totally get it. Whenever you return home, you still somehow feel like this is the place you are from but it also feels a little foreign because living abroad changes you. You might not notice it at first but you definitely feel it when coming back to the country you are from.

how often do you paint?
@tangerinetundraag1014Ай бұрын
This is precisely how I feel about painting. There are moments, especially around sunset/sunrise, when there's not enough light for a picture and the cost of getting a photograph outweighs the benefit. When I leave my phone in my bag and memorize the scene to paint later, it frees me to simply experience what I'm seeing instead of trying to perfectly capture it. My paintings capture how things truly feel---a true memory, rather than an edited, blurry photograph that doesn't do it justice.

Wow! What an absolute magnificence! I have been documenting my life by writing a journal everyday for that past 6 years now. I write down raw facts, emotions and random thoughts there but mostly facts and recently I started feeling that I really don't make use of this journal and I just write to write. But instead I should do something with it. I love your video, it was well structured, beautifully said and put together, it kind of inspired me to do something more with the journal. However I don't know what exactly...yet. ~Usat

This hits on a so much deeper level. On the one hand, like Jonne, you have to live life and feel it. On the other hand, you have to make it meaningful by picking moments and give them a sense. As i'm also a hoarder of moments, i always thought: life passes just by. And going all the pictures and tickets I got a glimpse of the past, you made me realize, that i have to pick the best moments and have to present them to have the moments live on. Thank your for the awesome food of thought.

My problem is that I documented too little. Due to some health issues, my memory is deteriorating and I struggle to live in the moment, remember the past, and hope for the future, so I decided to hold on to as much as I can. Now I take dozens of photos every week, film random moments that seem mundane today, even record "interviews" with my friends and family, so I can have a reminder for the future. My younger brother even got mad at me for dumping all the 4 terabyte of stuff I have on the shared family cloud.

I moved to Sweden a couple of years ago and I enjoy been working on a design for a lino print with a bunch of vignettes of everything I love about summer here (eventually hopefully I’ll do one for winter too). And it’s exactly like what you describe with painting: I get to choose the precise moments and how to display them. It’s been very rewarding and I haven’t even started carving blocks yet
@andrewd80267 ай бұрын
This is such a great idea and feels like the exact thing I want to start doing with my memories. I've thought of having a big scrapbook, and who knows, I might still do that, but this is really what I need for my special memories. I find it cool that you just make the painting based off the photo from your phone: it doesn't need to be as realistic as possible, just captures the essence. Also by painting at the end of the trip rather than doing it live during the hike or whatever, you can actually gauge what was important looking back on the trip. I haven't painted in over a decade and I wasnt great back then as a kid, so it would probably be much better off with something like colored pencils, but seems like a cool opportunity to learn a new skill also and find my own style.

With such a beautiful 5 minute film you could easily add 5 minute films as well as your paintings and that way instead of a load of random clips you would have one film per each adventure plus one painting. How cool would that be. I can paint but I can't make films like that. It was very beautiful and I love the concept. For some reasons my sketchbooks make me remember the events of my life much more vividly then photos or writing a journal does. The sketches are much more evocative.
