At 57 I race a KTM 300exc in Hare Scrambles. I suggest you partake in this madness. Great fun and misery. Sometime I race in the Open class D novice class with my my youngest son and always laugh as he is passing me , or me passing him. I've been known to give his bike (YZ250F) a gentle nudge with my front tire at times. Good times.

I think a really good idea is to build a low speed training area for both you and Jack. Lots of low speed circles, weaving between tight trees along inclines etc. Think almost trials. These are some of the best ways to build good quality balance and bike skills. Look at the career history of many top enduro riders. I grew up farm riding so could do all the low speed stuff without getting into trouble. Never had $ for mx bikes until later in life but boy did the skills pay off.

I’ve had two KTM 300’s, a 2004 and currently a 2013 xcw. Yea the red spring is pretty scary, let’s that big hit happen pretty early. I ran yellow spring in both bikes, much easier to manage and I always know about when the big power is going to hit. Whiskey throttle on a 300 in too low a gear will leave you sitting on the ground while your bike goes on without you.

You either got way too much oil in the gas or just bad settings on your bike, so much blue smoke and looks lazy on lower rpm. But definetly use any protecting gear that you have, I've crashed several times with a Supermoto while playing around but one time was so bad that it really woke me up. Its really a miracle that I walked away from that by only peeling all the skin off from my leg, chest and arm, was only wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Never riding again without proper pants, boots and jacket. And helmet is the last thing that you want to be cheap one, always get a proper helmet even if that feels stupidly expensive.

@adambatchelder4121
@adambatchelder4121 6 жыл бұрын
The springs are different tension, this tension is what the centrifical weights that drive the power valve must overcome to open the power valve. So red spring is the soft spring, let's the valve open sooner. If you go watch Jeff slavens videos it will help you to understand. Then there is preload on the springs to further fine tune it. If you send me your e mail I will send send you some pictures of my chainsaw rack, you would love it.

In my 250xc I run the red spring. It lets the valve open soon so the power is smooth but still powerful throughout the whole movement of the throttle. Just food for thought. A little background. I race offroad. Gncc's sprint enduros and national enduros. So I want it to be as smooth and powerful as I can get. Hope this helps. It's so great to see that you have gotten back into riding ! So why "Should I fear the red spring"?? Stop dicking around jet your bike it sounds rich on the pilot, bang the redster in, it's perfect for the type of trails your riding anyway. Red opens the PV earlier and makes the power more linier, when the power valve is open it's open.

I can tell your jetting is off at idle to 1/4 throttle, these 300's with the mikuni carbs are a royal pain to jet the idle circuit. If you are somewhat like me that would rather ride than tinker with jetting constantly I would recommend two options that will make your bike a lot more enjoyable. One is installing the lectron carb which is expensive but cleans up the bottom end and two is installing a JD jetting kit which is the route I went because they're only $70. I had great success with JD needles and really smooths out the power delivery, I mean it's really noticeable. They are not perfect, but man do they make a big big difference and they get rid off that blurble to all of a sudden instant clean power off idle which I found annoying and tiring.

Full race machines often aren't well suited to causal riding. When you are racing you are mostly at top rpm at the top of the power band. So the sudden power change when you "hit the pipe" isn't that annoying. You are always on the pipe and want to be at maximum power. When you are casual riding, you are using the mid-range and low end a lot more. So the quick spike in horsepower when you crank on the throttle can be a problem. Mellowing out the power band for casual riding makes perfect sense. Horsepower is the RPM times Torque (times a magic constant). So if your torque goes up with rpm and your power goes up with rpm, the power is going up more like the square of the rpm. (Horsepower = Torque (lb-ft) x RPM/5252) The shape of the torque curve vs. RPM defines the fun factor. Just having the peak torque number is so much less informative.

First off, I love seeing you have something you enjoy in such a way that brings out the young at heart in all of us. I come from a long line of two wheeled riders. My father taught me to ride and shift a motorcycle at the age of 12 on a 76 Honda CB360T. Another lesson I learned from my dear father at age 13 was his firm upbringing as a farmers son and lifelong dedicated carpenter would shovel out great consequences to silly selfish 13 year olds that joyride the learner bike illegally in the middle of the night. I wouldn't trade those learning experiences and corrections for anything. Anyway that's just a tidbit story of times past. I've been riding street bikes since 12 and I started getting in to dirtbikes at around 27 years old. I'm 39 now and I've spent most all of my life around two wheelers and I must say that my bikes are my therapist. We know each other well and we both speak each others language and like my wonderful father, it will kick my _-- when I get short sided and stay out of line too long. Enough of that though right. I must say that as a happy owner of a 372XP I find happiness watching you enjoying the fruits of a two cycle Husqvarna.

Stealth Boy Thank you sir. No I don't ride any motorcross events or anything. I've just always ridden for personal fun. Heated competition brings a level of intensity that isn't as fun as it was when I was younger. Pushing the limits constantly brings the pain more frequently and I don't bounce up like a spring like I used to after an accident. I still ride fairly aggressively and stay two stroke but it hurts a little more when I hit the ground and I feel it for weeks longer now.

i can attest to the Leatte or whatever neck braces, i landed face first and scorpioned to where both boots clacked on the back of my head after a guy knocked my bike out from under me in a race coming off a step down in 2nd-3rd gear. my back hurt but my neck was fine. i walked away after i caught my breath.

Sometimes i forget the world has wast forests...reason im writing this is because im a shutin, i rarelly go outside, and spend my time infront of the screen :/ (got some issues in my life etc etc, which makes it problematic for me to do outside "intense" activities)

I think the old power band is fun like the old Yamaha banshee or a Honda 250r. But I did ride on sand most of the time

Daniel Mancini there was a error caused by KZbin that made many unable to hear any sound. He reuploaded once corrected. Happened to other uploaders as well.

Or you could just learn to properly manage throttle by hand position.. the green spring will only help so much if you go around flooring it everywhere, you are still going to crash it

Awesome video but you should really tuck your pants into your boots. This will stop anything grabbing your pants or even chain grabbing your pants and could cause a serious accident.

Typically , they do not carry saws - at least not where I live (in the southwest). It takes *effort* to carry and use a handsaw to clear a trail..
