Torx were developed by Camcar in the late 60's. They range from T1 thru T100.. The original point to point dimensions were established in decimal inches.. Over time an ISO specification was developed for hexalobes AKA generic term for Torx. By design, Torx head screws resist cam-out better than Phillips head or slot head screws. Phillips heads were designed to cause the driver bit to cam out, to prevent overtightening, Torx configurationd were designed to prevent cam-out. The development of better torque-limiting automatic screwdrivers for use in factories allowed this change. Rather than rely on the tool to slip out of the screw head when a desired torque level is reached (which risks damage to the driver tip, screw head, and/or workpiece), torque-limiting driver designs achieve a desired torque consistently. Being a former Snap-on Tools business manager and an engineer I am a geeked gear head.. Glenn

Sooo standard? Because they started as half inches, not half centimeters
@byroneckhart90707 жыл бұрын
JIS Screws and Screwdrivers are pretty cool. JIS screws have a small indent hole on the head to identify them. The Japanese Standard that overcomes the torque out issue allowing proper tightening.
@grupp617 жыл бұрын
JIS are an improvement over Phillips.. Pozidrives are a great alternative over Phillips drive too. The only reason that we don't see more of them is that most OEMs dont want to add the 1% cost to the cost of goods of their product.. Torx(Camcar) is a prime example. They were offered for 25 years and the big 3 auto companies refused to pay the royalty.. So us wrench twisters suffered with Phillips for a long time until the Torx patent expired...

Since you asked about Torx drive screws, I thought you might like this: "The same series of Torx drivers is used to drive both SAE, metric and other thread system fasteners, reducing the number of bit sizes required." So it is neither metric or SAE, but in truth both depending on if the screw or bolt is SAE or Metric in size or cut thread. and was developed in 1967 by Camcar Textron. So basically it is a six lobe head type, that can and is applied to both SAE, and metric bolts, screws and other thread types and fasteners.

Hi Cody, I have been wanting to write a comment for some time, but to be honest I have never commented on a KZbin video or channel. Your's is the first. I have been thoroughly enjoying your channel for several years now. The effort you put into each an every video is evident. I really appreciate what you and your family bring to the table. I am an older fellow who grew up on a ranch, then in my teens the folks moved to Northern California (Trinity Alps) lived in the mountains for a about 5 years. Put 20 plus years into the military when I retired I moved back up in northern California (Siskiyou County) been here for the past 25 years. I fish, hunt and love camping and being out in the woods. I have lot of knowledge and experience but I have to tell you, I have learned so much from your channel, it may sound silly but it makes me feel like there is so much I don't know. So, the old saying is not true, you can teach an old dog new tricks. Thank you so much for what you do, I for one really appreciate you and your family. I share your videos with my youngest son (#5), he is 27, a volunteer fireman and he loves wildland, he just successfully completed an 18 week fire academy, he's hoping to get on with either Calfire or Fed's. He loves your channel also. Please keep up the great work. Sincerely Franklin Pugh.

Awesome of you to ride with the kids; I'm teaching our grandboys to ride now. I've been riding for over fifty years, put hundreds of hours in before turning 16. I have the rear brake like you do but I have cut the clutch lever to about 1,5" in length and turned it for my thumb. @ddro34437 жыл бұрын
I have heard that in the west - It can be better set up, steep terrain and tight switchbacks give you an option of having a foot always ready to dab. - In the midwest, you just wouldn't see a rear brake on the bars. However Gladius John has a point - few of us are ever going to tackle what Jarvis and the boys ride with a traditional set up I also wouldn't attempt this if you weren't running a Rekluse. One needs to learn clutch control if your going to ride a woods bike.

Wrangly, long time watcher of your vids here, since 2012. Love the dirtbike ones lately. But I think here you're going in the mist. I advise you to take the Rekluse clutch off. One must try to master a clutch (from the start) if one wants to master enduro riding. Also I would use that brake pedal. You're not riding a bycicle. Keep it up and good luck!
@colbytroutman28826 жыл бұрын
At 2:46 Jack said something that really stuck out to me... I understand that he will eventually learn (hopefully) that in the sport of riding (Whether it be woods, sx, mx. Anything) If you're riding with a friend that now you are each others responsibility. If one of you needs help, you help them. This could range from anything, simple things like helping get a bike up a hill, helping repair the bikes to taking care of them if something unfortunate like a wreck happens and they become unresponsive. I know jack is young, is kind and cares and I know you teach him well. Just kind of throwing my two cents in here? Also to touch base on your brake/clutch set up. Most definitely not a thing I've ever seen over here on the east coast (Nowhere between Pennsylvania to Florida that is) but I've been on some sort of bike for 3/4 of my life now and one thing I've found is there is nothing better than being comfortable on your bike. when you're comfortable you're fast and/or safe) If thats your thing thats your thing! One suggestion though, your brake. when you pull it in you're pulling upwards towards your bars where your hand is holding onto it. It feels good and natural because you're pulling towards your grip. But then I see you pull on your clutch and it looks so unnatural. You're pulling your clutch on a totally different plane than your grip, it looks like you have your brake in a good position, tilted slightly down but then your clutch is level. I would suggest loosening the custom bar mount and tilting it forwards a bit. then tilt your clutch upwards so you can pull it downwards towards your grip, it should get it on the same plane or near where it feels more comfortable. I only suggest this because if you want to use your clutch for what you say you do, you're going to need to feel comfortable and smooth using it. Hope you try it and please if you make another video let us know how it works for you, or just comment back n tell me the results!!! Hope this long rambly comment helps!

Cody, you should take a look at rear thumb brakes. The lever is under the grip and operated by the thumb. You can maintain normal clutch position and rear foot brake. Run a second brake line to it off the caliper with a double banjo fitting. Very convenient. You can operate front brake, rear brake, throttle and clutch all at the same time. Excellent for steep or tight difficult terrain.

A tool kit out on the trail is a must, many a time I've been spat off and snapped levers and bent shifter levers and had the odd puncture. The day I started carrying a tool kit, a few spare bits and some coolant was after i was 6 miles into a trail and I wiped out and when I took my bike out of the brush i popped a radiator hose off and lost most of my coolant. Was the longest walk with my bike I've ever done and vowed to always make sure I have a spares bag in case I mess up big style again.

I've never seen brakes bled that way. Just fill the reservoir at the top and keep pumping the brakes with the tube on the lower bleed nipple. It will fill the brake lines from the top and pump out any bubbles of air. You might need to empty the clear tube a couple of times to make sure it's done. Make sure the top reservoir doesn't run out of DOT4.

Check out the Aussie made Clake billet SLR rear brake lever set up, it fits well behind Barkbusters. A rear left hand brake helps big time as your setup does with balance and the dreaded angel clutch.

Brake pedals and shift levers get a "brake snake" if you ride in the woods to prevent just that. Piece of steel cable looped from the tip of the pedal/lever to the frame to keep brush and debris from getting crammed in there as well as keeping them from getting bent out or broken off.

I feel like a rear break hand setup is like putting training wheels on your bike. Eventually you will be used to using the rear break at your foot and it would be just as easy. But hey everyone has their own style and I'm not hating on yours at all.

No, I understand I ride trails as well and in steep situations where I need to stand and use the rear break I have trouble either finding it or being able to press it which cause me to go slower or could crash. This would easily fix my issue with that or I just need more practice and focus on rear break control. I 100% understand why you like the rear break setup, everyone has their own style and opinion on what they choose to do to their dirt bike.

Those levers are brilliant, but I personally don't agree with completely removing rear foot brake
@wranglerstar7 жыл бұрын
There is no need to have for the foot brake,

My mates got a similar setup but he's missing everything below the elbow
@CanadAustralian7 жыл бұрын
Brett Gordon That is an understandable situation to completely remove the foot brake!

Wranglerstar: Maybe not on flat surface... but sometimes, in the woods, if you e. g. need two hands to open/close a zipper... you will miss the pedal :-)

Torx is neither ISO standard (Metric) or american humbug (inches) but rather a whole separate standard and the "real" name is hexalobular internal

I've been riding my whole life through some wild trails on Vancouver Island, and have never seen anyone do that with the rear brake.... the logic is sound, but it's never been a problem anyone I've known felt the need to fix. You got me curious though, I would like to try it now... Thanks for sharing! Cheers!

From wikipedia: Torx invented by Textron.... Textron (NYSE: TXT) is an American global aerospace, defense, security and advanced technologies industrial conglomerate. Torx head sizes are described using the capital letter "T" followed by a number ranging from T1 to T100.[5] A smaller number corresponds to a smaller point-to-point dimension of the screw head (diameter of circle circumscribed on the cross-section of the tip of the screw driver). Common sizes include T10, T15, and T25, while T5.5, T35, and T47 tend to see specialized use. Only the proper driver can drive a specific head size without risk of damaging the driver or screw. The same series of Torx drivers is used to drive SAE, metric and other thread system fasteners, reducing the number of bit sizes required. The "external" variants of Torx head sizes (see below) are described using the capital letter "E" followed by a number ranging from E4 to E44.[6] The "E" numbers are different from the "T" numbers of the same size: for example, an E4 Torx socket fits a T20 head.[5] Properties of various Torx drives[5] Size Point-to-point distance Maximum torque range ~ E Torx (in) (mm) (lb·ft) (N·m) T1 0.031 0.81 0.01-0.02 0.02-0.03 T2 0.036 0.93 0.05-0.07 0.07-0.09 T3 0.046 1.10 0.10-0.13 0.14-0.18 T4 0.050 1.28 0.16-0.21 0.22-0.28 T5 0.055 1.42 0.32-0.38 0.43-0.51 E2 T5.5[7] T6 0.066 1.70 0.55-0.66 0.75-0.90 T7 0.078 1.99 1.0-1.3 1.4-1.7 T8 0.090 2.31 1.6-1.9 2.2-2.6 T9 0.098 2.50 2.1-2.5 2.8-3.4 T10 0.107 2.74 2.7-3.3 3.7-4.5 T15 0.128 3.27 4.7-5.7 6.4-7.7 T20 0.151 3.86 7.74-9.37 10.5-12.7 E4 T25 0.173 4.43 11.7-14.0 15.9-19 E5 T27 0.195 4.99 16.6-19.8 22.5-26.9 T30 0.216 5.52 22.9-27.6 31.1-37.4 E6 T35[8] E7 T40 0.260 6.65 39.9-48.0 54.1-65.1 E8 T45 0.306 7.82 63.4-76.1 86-103.2 T47[9][10] GM-Style T50 0.346 8.83 97.4-117 132-158 E10 T55 0.440 11.22 161-189 218-256 E12 T60 0.519 13.25 280-328 379-445 E16 T70 0.610 15.51 465-516 630-700 E18 T80 0.690 17.54 696-773 943-1048 E20 T90 0.784 19.92 984-1094 1334-1483 T100 0.871 22.13 1359-1511 1843-2048 E24

I would have to say I have been significantly against motorcycles for years, I watched this video with Cameron today and I have changed my mind. It was nice to see the adventure with the boys. Really no different to this as us going snowmobiling or atv trail riding. Looked like a great way to spend it with the boys

Most of the enduro pros use conventional brake/clutch systems. Sorry, but your setup is very uncommon.

Apparently not uncommon in the Pacific Northwest.

I must agree. The normal rear foot brake can be operated delicately with moto boots with practice and experience. I wear moto boots and I can brake from lock up to just light braking without even thinking. It’s like anything it’s doing it and practice. I think the rear hand brake is best on bicycles where it belongs. To each their own tho.
@codyred39955 жыл бұрын
@@chiefof I agree i have done some hard rideing and I can use my back brake with complete elegance with moto boots on and the clutch being up high and right on top of the brake just takes away from being able to quickly use it I have done lots of trail rideing and to learn how to use the proper controls makes for a beter ride.

Hey wranglerstar nice video with the kids looks like a lot of fun I was just wondering, would you recommend a opinel folding pocket knife for an “everyday use pocket knife?” (A go to knife) ?
@jeremydavis6087 жыл бұрын
Cool looking setup but I guess I’m old fashion when I comes to woods riding. Growing up in the north east and dealing with terrain like yours, I learned brake control with the foot brake. I actually enjoy it a lot and I don’t find myself upsetting my balance at all. Plus it was easy to jump between bikes and sport quads because they where setup wit door brakes to .I’d like to try an auto clutch but at the same time I like having full control over how it engages and how much and so on.But my 2 cents and my beliefs. Cool bike thou cool to see how your setting it up to your liking .
