Truthfully he made my mind up not to get it. But being my first ever mpc i dont see what he means its too different from the other mpc' s since I've never owned one. Yeah, I saw it too. I get his points, but I believe it all depends on an individual's workflow. When I use controller mode or the software, I'm using the keyboard, mouse and monitor anyway. So this is what it is, a dedicated controller that works seamlessly with the software. Appreciate you for checkin in bro

Bro, who are you? I've used this software for 8 years and think i know a thing or 2. He has had a bias against Akai from the start. Anyone with experience can see exactly what the thing is. I know which buttons mattered to me on my Studio, Ren and my TOUCH that were all controllers and know the things he complained about don't matter to ME and others that have a workflow similar to mine. If a screen and Q-Links matter and you're allergic to using a mouse, then go with his advise. If you are used to a computer workflow and just need pads, note repeat and a few other buttons in a CONTROLLER...then listen to me. Also, I wouldn't tell ANYONE to get a Touch in 2021. It was dope and similar to the Live, but will probably be left behind real soon..just as the OG Studio and the Ren. Thanks for watching

My MPC journey: MPC 2500 (2008) MPC Studio (2014) MPC Live (2019) NEW MPC Studio (2022) TBH, when I got the live in 2019, it was cool at first, having a standalone MPC again, but it kind of confused my progression. I had fully adopted non-standalone, MPC SOFTWARE mindset, having had the first gen Studio for 5 years; love that MPC. Then all of the sudden, I had this standalone with big screen (much bigger than legacy MPC screens), the Live. I just ended up realizing I didn’t need or want bigger screen on my MPC, nor standalone capability. So was glad to see this one hit the sales rack. I don’t even need the lil bitty screen and this unit snugs right where i want it, up against bottom line of laptop trackpad. BOOM! Done

Here’s my long 2 cents comment. To give you an idea, here’s my story. I started making music like 35+ years ago. Very early I used a computer to sequence, I use soundtrackers on the Amiga 500 and then the first Atari with Steinberg Pro 24, which became later Cubase version 1.0. So as said, I started VERY early. At the time we didn’t had much choice between out-the-box or in-the-box, we were just using what gear we had. When I was a young intern in the local recording studio, we were using 2” tape recorder for audio, because there was no audio recording in computers at the time, it was only MIDI. Then we slowly got audio recording, and then came the Virtual Studio Technology (VST). At the time I was using a shit ton of hardware gear, from M1, Wavestation, EMU Proteus, 01W, Triton, Motif, Fantom XR, you name it. They were mostly ROMplers that were using small memories. So when we got more powerful computers in the 2000s, I slowly started to get more VSTi and Sample libraries because they could get bigger samples, and therefore more defined sounds. I went all-in to resell all my hardware gear and go completely software when I worked with an Open Labs neKo (Disclaimer, I worked for Open Labs, contributed to make the Timbaland edition keyboard, I made his sound banks, etc…). However, the real analog synths were not perfect, too digital, nor warm enough. Later on, in the 2010s, I moved back to use an Hybrid setup to have most of ROMplers and Sample Libraries in the computer (an iMac) and then some analog gear such Moog Voyager, Virus, 808, 909, 303, you name it mainly for their real analog sounds. Because the computers were not powerful enough to have big Virtual Synth to create those analog sounds. And now, I’m moving back to full software because we finally got virtual synth that sound just as real as real analog gear, and we finally have computers powerful enough to run them and not have latency issues, drop audio, pops & cracks, etc… For this Christmas I’m gonna get a new MacBook Pro 16” Max fully maxed out 64GB, 32GPU, 8TB to store and run all my big sample libraries (Komplete Ultimate Collector, Eastwest, Omnisphere, IK Studio Max, Superior Drummer 3, Kontakt banks such Spitfire and such), and also run all VST synth such Arturia, u-he, Korg collection, Roland Cloud and such… Can we make beat (or even full songs) in a full hardware system? Absolutely. And it can sound just as professional as anything else. However, these days, it’s very common to use a DAW, at least to record vocals and to mix your final song. So if you’re gonna use a computer anyway, why not trying to get all benefit of a computer for the beat creation too? Of course, we can use sample, chop them, and make awesome beats and it doesn’t require a computer with 64GB ram to do it… but if you have a big computer you can also run big samples, such orchestral sample libraries, and now you can have more realistic acoustic sounds, for strings, brass, guitars, acoustic drums, pianos, etc… In the past, a lot of producers were hesitating to use a computer because it was not stable, because of the limitations, latency, crash, you name it. However, if you get a stable setup, it could run just as well as any hardware gear. Since I started to use more computer with big VST and sample libraries in my DAW, I’ve come to make more complicated song, like trying to create some scoring track, running composer template. This is not something I could ever do with my workstation and analog gear. Of course, I’m not Hans Zimmer and I’m not gonna score the next Hollywood movie, but it teaches me some nice arranger/composer technics that I can now apply when I’m doing an urban beat. I love to mix genres. So, long story short, I fully use computers now, therefore I’m always looking for great controllers to help me work in my DAW. I’m a Maschine user, but I wouldn’t mind at some point to get an Akai MPC controller to have more choices and options for beat making. The new MPC Studio 2 looks nice. I just wish they would release one in a Vintage color like your MPC Live 2. What to say, I’m an old nostalgic fart… :) So I completely understand your point in your “rant” and I think you’re right. As you can see, I have some background and experience in the domain too, I’ve worked virtually all DAW (Cubase, Logic Pro, Protools, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Reason, Reaper, Cakewalk, etc…). This was my job to test DAWs and plugins at some point. So I spent countless hours to test them from A to Z. And that’s how and why I felt in love with the idea to work in the box from the first note of the beat… avoiding to change platform between creation and vocal recording or mixing. You don’t have to start something on a hardware gear and in the middle of the creation, you have to stop what you’re doing, find a way to “transfer” your beat into a DAW to continue your work to record great quality audio, and then mix the whole song… Sorry for my long comment/rant, but I think it was necessary to really explain where I come from. Music is music, we can use whatever we want to make GREAT music. You can just two wood sticks and still make good music. And great gear won’t make musician any better. Generally it just helps to express themselves and get to the point they want to make. I understand not everyone will share my way of making music and it’s fine… we don’t have to all be the same. It’s ok to be different and use different gear, methods, technics… an no one would be right or wrong. I like computers, DAW and virtual synth & sample libraries, so I like hardware controller to help me to use them. Cheers, Phil

I totally agree man. People clown me because I bounce between Reason and Ableton to produce "in the box" and other times I use my MPC Live or my iPad Pro to make beats. It all comes down to personal workflow. This whole standalone elitism to dissuade people from getting something that works for them is getting out of hand.

I guarantee most of the top 100 starting in FL studio Plus a lot of stuff that I thought was made on the MPC was made on ProTools back in the day or Asr10s and protools or whatever.. Bro... I needed to hear this! Quick story - I was heavy into making beats since the mid 90s. Got an MPC2000 in 2000. Took my shit to another level. Loved it. Unfortunately I ended up having to sell it in '08. Tried to get into FL Studio but making beats with nothing to bang out on was so uninspiring to me... so I gave up. Now (15yrs later) I'm in a space creatively where I wanna get back into it but I need something familiar to how I used to work. I watched the Akai MPC Studio Academy playlist and fell in love all over again. The idea of using the controller with the software sounds perfect... almost too good to be true. But what u said in this vid removed all doubt 🤜🏾🤛🏾

Akai probably should've left "Studio" out of the name because the Mk2 isn't an optimal replacement for the Studio. That being said, I have the Studio Mk2, an Akai MPK Mini Mk3, and a MPC One. I'd rather use the Studio Mk2 tethered to the software than the MPC One teathered to software or the MPK. When I want to work Standalone, I move with the MPC One. The Studio Mk2 is a nice device. Maybe it should've been marketed differently. It's not a Studio. It's a little less than that but it's also significantly cheaper too. The Studio Mk2 sits directly opposite to the Maschine Mikro Mk3 and in that position, it is well placed. Names build expectations. Akai needed to build a Mikro Mk3 expectation instead of a Studio expectation. I tend to agree with your statement.

Have an MPK225 and tried to make it work with MPC beats and it was not working how I wanted… which is why I got the studio mk2. Now it’s seem less. You can control most of what you want with the controller as opposed to trying to program the mpk that shit was a headache 🤕

It's a dedicated controller leave it at that....personally I'd rather the studio because I like laying the beats down on audio tracks and arranging in that manner..... The standalones give you very limited audio tracks about 8 if I'm right...but i do want a live 2 for a one piece solution while traveling or some

Great video bro, this made total sense. I mean if you have a Live 2, or an X or both... you don't need this lol. I think the problem is that you could say that the original Studio was more consistent with the other products... in terms of button layout and q-links etc... so in that sense they took a step back... but i guess they really wanted to keep it at a low price point. I understand both sides to the argument... because if i was strictly a Studio user, I would be disappointed because this isn't an upgrade other than the nice look of the hardware

No problem. Glad you could see my point through the 'rant' lol. I'd say it is equally useful as a VST in whichever DAW you prefer. You could also use the MPC Software on it's own to have a more traditional 'MPC' workflow (except on the computer if that makes sense).

I agree with your upside thoughts on this , especially for newbies ( like me ) I think ( with Mac Monterey) you can now grab a track you've made with this and drag it to any daw , even GarageBand . I've been looking for a controller where I can use the pads for chord function , (I'm not a beat maker, I like the sounds ) , Thanks for your review I'm starting to understand what I have to do to make up my mind -First is to download the manual .With that said -my hats off to ~ALL~ MPC user's who have deciphered 800 page manuals on some of these units . I just hope ( after further research , this unit is easy to use . You MPC users are smarter than you think .

It is pretty nice, but the layout is a bit odd, like big step down from the og Studio. It has you reaching for the mouse for very basic things that a controller should be able to do.

Mpc studio is more standalone than the live . It's smaller and more powerful when with a MacBook pro. All you need is two small speakers on the go 😊

It's a midi controller with MPC pads and slidders designed to work with MPC software. I see alot of MPC X users using there units with the PC software so why spend £1500 to do the exact same as the Studio 2 for £300. Studio 2 is fine.

MPC software is probably one of the worst GUIs you can imagine. Its just impenetrable. But! Since I have Live mk1, I had to use software anyway , as some things are a bit easier and trying to learn it that way. It all comes back to legacy of MPC 60 and 3000 and all that. 80ies style of sequencing. I'd say, its pretty much the same experience as with 4 track cassette recorder. There's no screens to tell you what's actually going on, like score page ( 'arranger page of akai force for example'), so its only your ears and hands. And there's something about that experience. But if you know how to bend MPC to your will, you can run with it. And MPC beats being totally free software is mindblowing. Mostly because its full-featured MPC machine (in a computer though, but nonetheless), and its a fully capable sequencer, sampler, etc. You can actually create live keyboard setup on full MPC and export it to Beats and have it open, just stick to keygroups and drum programs. That is actually bulletproof live keyboard setup! You can install it on any machine, even borrowed one and send one project file and have everything playing back perfectly. As far as writing music, I stick to MPC live. Working with software is way to hard for basic tasks. You can learn keyboard shortcuts and it will lift it a bit , which I suggest to anyone, but you got to know how it operates in the first place. Anyway, MPC REQUIRES 40 hours of just learning its menu structure until you will write anything remotely musical.

I, don't HAVE to do ANYTHING. I have USED mpc SOFTWARE for 8 YEARS. I know that when using controller mode, everything can be done with a mouse if it's not easily done on the hardware. I actually use the mouse for most things when in controller mode. If I didn't provide enough info for you and you don't see that in my other vids, then i'm sorry.
