Yeah I'd say it's an excellent entry point into the MPC workflow. The paddle layout is a little different than the MPC one, but nothing I couldn't get used to in a few days. Thanks for watching!

Congratulations, FreeBeat! I’ve been a confirmed DAWless musician (I, too love my MPC One) but this hybridized concept is pretty enticing. Let’s see where you go. Have fun!

Thanks! I'm definitely still in the dawless category as well, but a more integrated controller with a workflow that I know already from a hardware device has me really intrigued!

When I saw MPC Studio in the title, my first thought was, "Wow, Freebeat's going a little old-school.", because there was an MPC Studio awhile back which was a more cost-effective option to the the Renaissance; much like the MPC One is to the X. So imagine my surprise when I see the box. :) If it has generic control option, I may be looking at a replacement for my MPD218.
@FreeBeat3 жыл бұрын
I was completely unaware of the original MPC studio until I started working on this video haha. As far as I know there's no generic control option yet, but it's definitely something I would love to see happen! The pads are too good to be limited to one piece of software haha.
@JakeSweeper3 жыл бұрын
Heh... I recently described what I like to see in a spiritual successor to the MPC 500, the first portable MPC. It was essentially an OG MPC studio with some stand-alone guts, some more I/O and a micro SD card reader. I also thought Akai could work in a companion app to add the display via phone or tablet. Seeing this makes me pretty hopeful because the Live came about the same way from the MPC Touch.

Now that looks really good. The fact that you can control so much without touching the mouse or computer keyboard, is great. Personally, I still prefer to be completely computerless and that's why I have the Deluge, the MV-1 and the Circuit Rhythm. I stare at a screen all day and so hardware with no or minimal screen is awesome.

You officially made it. You are now on the same list as gabe miller music, who released his unboxing/first time use video literally in the same few minutes as you :) You're in dang good company. You should maybe try networking with some other music dudes, maybe do a roulette video (sending a song back and forth and both artists adding to it until it's 'done enough'. We used to do that when I was making levels for videogames, we'd have a server full of people and everyone would contribute their own style and section to the level. You have made me want to start a music channel. Like, I already wanted to, but watching your journey has been inspiring. I noodle around and make some fun stuff even in my amateur capacity. Why not just record the journey? And there are a few things I've learned I bet I could pass along. Maybe I can be the kaossilator 2s channel, since for some reason that thing always always always inspires me despite the limitations.

I'm not sure if I'm on the same level as Gabe yet, but it certainly helps to know I'm on the right track! You should definitely start a channel, documenting the learning process has been an absolute game changer for me and I can't recommend it highly enough!

re: Sample Start / Sample End... does the encoder let you fine-tune the points, or does it jump? The other MPCs allow for x1, x10, x100, etc... which helps a lot when trying to get the perfect edit. Hope this guy allows that, too. My initial impressions aren't positive. I hate that the NI Mikro MK3 design model is what people are copying, from M-Audio to Akai. We need more knobs, not less. And enough with the tiny-ass screens. Ugh.
@FreeBeat3 жыл бұрын
The way you find tune is by using the zoom control to narrow in on the exact area that you want to work on. I just tested it out and you can get incredibly precise results. The more and more I use the studio the more I love the ease of the zoom function in combination with the different modes. Makes a lot of things pretty quick and allows you to keep your hands off the mouse and keyboard.
@DopamineOverload3 жыл бұрын
@@FreeBeat Disagree about the mouse and the keyboard. It's so much more than the original MPC Studio, or Maschine. That's good about the precision, though!

The tiny screen is way smaller than the previous MPC studio, the Q links are gone too, the buttons layout is not consistent with the others MPCs, the pad shortcuts are different from all other MPCs of the past years (why? Just why?) Strange choices from Akai.
@FreeBeat3 жыл бұрын
Something I didn't show in this video is that while holding the touch strip button you can press any of the pads to instantly set the q link number that you're controlling with the strip. I do recognize however that this isn't as convenient as an actual knob. I never used the original NPC studio, however I've found it pretty easy to adjust from my MPC One over to the studio workflow wise. The screen is really only meant to display one parameter at a time, which is why I think it's so small. It's certainly not perfect (no gear is IMO), but the more that I use it the more little shortcuts I discover that make me realize the potential for a pretty quick workflow. Then again it definitely won't be for everybody haha. Thanks for watching!
