My cat had a (UNPLANNED) litter and I was originally going to just keep one but I kept two and now I’m VERY grateful I did bc all the points in the video really hit the nail on the mark. My mom cat gets really annoyed by them (she still loves them 40% of the time 😂) but since they have each other now they only bugggg each other and not me or Kuno (mom cat) and don’t worry she’s getting spayed in like 2 days!! Also I hadn’t realized they were a bonded pair too!! I’ve noticed that they always play, cuddle up and groom each other but I’m now realizing those were signs of a bonded pair and I’m very glad I kept the 2nd kitten ☺️

I'm a firm believer in this concept, & adopted 2 brothers from the same litter. They were incredibly close, and when one died from diabetes complications at 5 1/2 years of age the other was DEVASTATED. Fast forward several years & my daughter brought home a kitten. The older cat's attitude screamed, "You got ME a baby?" and he fell 100% in love. She's brought him so much contentment, and a more active life. She also has no clue how lucky she is to have him, the little stinker lol

I originally was "in the market" for only one cat, but my husband's son told me I should get two. I was especially sold when I found pictures online of two from the same litter that were holding each other and sleeping. Seven months later (them being 9 months old now) I'm so happy I made the decision to get two. Absolutely everything you said in this video is 100% true and my cats are loving, playful, healthy, talkative, and happy. It actually makes me smile when I hear them running around at night, jumping from counters, and dragging around their feather teaser with the wand. I love them like they are my kids and play with them whenever I get the chance.

@@Scottlp2 In the beginning only just a little bit. My husband and I didn't leave the bedroom door open too often. On nights that we did they would come in wrestling with each other sometimes. We've been leaving the door open most nights for the last 6 months and they just come in and sleep by my side for the entire night. They're on my schedule. :)

Can confirm that it's less distructive to have two. Before we got our second cat, Oliver. Phantom would want to be played with constantly or he'd climb as high as he could just to yell for attention. He's still a needy attention seeker but but less distructive now that he has a playmate :3

I've been trying to tell people for years how house cats should always come in twos. I do feel sorry for those lone house cats just sat all by themselves all day, typically far more aloof and tense around visitors. Generally on edge a lot more. Cats are much, much cheaper to own than dogs so there's really no reason to not have two instead of one.

However, now that I have adopted a pair of brothers, I noticed that there are just certain behaviors/interactions you as a human cannot replace. It's fascinating to see and hard to put into words. It probably won't change your mind now but maybe consider it in the future 😊

It doesn't always work out that way, and people with one cat should not be guilt tripped for making that choice. Are you people somehow suggesting that we do not care about our cats as much? I'm kinda offended! I have sacrificed a lot of time and energy to make sure my one cat is not lonely. One problem is that it's tough to introduce a 2nd cat once the first one is grown. Grown cats do not like invaders to their territory. Some people are lonely and that one cat is ALL THEY HAVE!!! A lot of us don't have families or significant others, don't work, so we don't even have co workers. Just lonely, isolated lives. My entire life is centered around my cat. If I got two, I'd have to split my attention. The first one would be jealous. Then you jerks come around and suggest that I am doing something wrong. efff y e w

I adopted 2 sisters after my elderly cat passed away. My diabetic senior seemed lonely and the new kittens have brought him such joy! He has renewed energy and loves to snuggle with the babies. Everything in this video is absolutely true. The girls romp and play together and they keep each other out of trouble. They are inseparable. I did it right!

I always try to advocate for people to adopt two kittens instead of one after my own experience. I got a young 8 week old kitten (Kai) and also had a 13 year old cat at the time - she is 15 and a half now :). Kai always wanted to play with her but she wasn't interested. A few weeks later I got him a buddy who is around Kai's age. You're so right how much less work it is and the bond between them is beautiful. I'm so happy to have both of them in my life now

My sister and I got two kittens from the same litter. I wasn't even going to get a cat, but when we saw how close the cat she wanted was to his brother, we just couldn't bear to separate them (plus, how could I say no to an adorable kitten). It's nearly a decade later and even though my sister has moved out since then, I'm now taking care of both of them because, well, couldn't separate them.

My granddaughter had a cat that ran off at Christmas. In January I took her to the animal shelter to get a new kitten. She found one she liked that had just come in that same morning. He had two brothers. Being an old softy that didn't want to separate them we brought home all three brothers. We live in the country and have three adult cats. They are so happy together. It's tough having three babies but my granddaughter loves animals and is so happy too. It was a win-win for us all.

Our first cats were littermates and weren't that great as a pair - Charmont and Ophelia, both girls. They had never been separated when we got them. Char would bully Ophe by stealing her food and chasing her away from the literboxes if she saw Ophe tying to relieve herself. We had to feed Ophe in a seperate room and stand a few feet from the box if we saw her going in because of Char. The never groomed or slept with each other. My sister and I took once each when we moved out and they were perfectly fine alone. I see a lot of people saying to get two cats, but it worked out so poorly the last time for us. I wonder if that was a fluke.

My two boys, who are brothers, were also not best friends when I took them in. The dominant one became mean when it came to food, the smaller one was very protective of its toys. At first they ate some distance away from each other. What helped them, I think, was that I showed them there was plenty of everything. I gave them as much wet food as they liked and all toys came in pairs and playtime with me was divided equally. Playing with each other helped heaps as well. They are now 1 year with me. And while they dont snuggle up or groom each other all too often, they now have no problem eating right next to each other and tend to sleep very close to each other. They also cannot be put into seperate rooms without yelling for the other one. So in a way, they are bonded now and it's beautiful to see :) I guess my TLDR point is: patience and plentiful resources.

I have two sister cats that used to be pretty mean to each other, but now they are neutral. I get the impression that they respect each other and actually do like being in the same room, especially if the house is quiet. There was a third sister who was quite a bit more affectionate towards other cats, but she was born with a weak heart and a few health problems and died at about age 6 or so. They went looking for her all night when she died. This surprised me because they pretend not to notice each other most of the time, but I guess deep down they truly care.

Getting two kittens is wonderful and better for them. It isn't, however, without its downsides. First off, two kittens are definitely more work than one. Yes, they play together, but keeping your kitten entertained is a small part of the initial work. Training two cats is harder than training one, and doing even the most basic things, like preparing a meal, sitting down to eat, or even sleeping, can become incredibly frustrating with two rambunctious kittens who haven't learned your boundaries yet, and that's even harder when you're single. It also means double the poop in the litter boxes, which means cleaning and changing the litter more often, which is both more work and more expensive. Double the food, obviously. Vaccines, deworming, chipping, neutering, those things add up significantly in that first year. We got two littermates who are wonderful and we love them to bits, but it was hard on our two older cats, and it was hard on us making sure we weren't shortchanging either the older cats or the new arrivals (on top of the extra work and expense). I think it's important when presenting the (very valid and correct!) case about the benefits of getting two kittens instead of one, to not sugarcoat the experience, so that people can make a better informed decision and be prepared for a period of extra work, extra expenses, and very little down time for the humans in the home. It's better to be aware in advance to prepare accordingly, IMO, especially taking into consideration the number of adults available to share the work, if there's anyone home at specific times, the size of the home, etc. so that people don't end up giving up in frustration or getting into unnecessary arguments because they were expecting smooth sailing.

@@JamieDelour In my experience it's absolutely less work at the later stages. And I think it is ultimately worth it. I just think it's helpful to know in advance that there will be a more demanding period so that people manage their expectations accordingly and don't end up overwhelmed just because they weren't prepared properly. Like you said, just bringing some balance :)

Hi! I have two cats from different litters one it's 11 months and the other it's 4 months. I have experienced some of the things you have said here. My first cat was very picky about food but now he wants to eat the same thing his brother does. They play a lot with each other and like to snuggle for nap time. I feel better when I leave for many hours knowing they are keeping each other company.

A lot of this is true, I had two female cats for 10 years, specially when I had to watch a friends cat which was a male about 3 years younger than mine, my cats were far more accepting of him than I expected, there were no fighting among them but they were still alert around each other. It only took a few days for them to get accustomed to each other so I could let him roam freely in the house, ironically when he started playing at night when people were sleeping, the other two cats would punish him for it because they knew I did not like it when they made noise at night when people were sleeping. The only problem with two cats, is that if one of them dies before the other, the remaining cat will have a very hard time dealing with sadness, for me it was like loosing a child, but for my remaining cat to loose her sister like that after 10 years, she still in depression, 2 years after it happened, her behaviour changed, its very sad and hard on you mentally trying to deal with a cat like that. The fact I cannot even introduce another cat to the household is also extremely annoying, I think that in most optimal situation, you should preferably introduce two kittens by the time one of your original cats pass away, it will become sort of a transition period, of course cats wont live forever thats just fact of life but having two kittens for your existing cat can most likely help ease pain and loneliness in times you wont be there, something I noticed is that depressed cats become extremely reclusive so its always a sport to try find them, because contrary to popular belief, you should not let cats become reclusive, its the same thing with people when they are depressed, if you leave them alone they become self destructive.

I’ve historically got two kittens at the same time, but previously they were unrelated. They got on great as friends and because a previous kitten wasn't properly weened having a slightly older one taught her how to be a kitten and how to play. This time we got two brothers that were the entire litter as far as the rescuers knew and they were watched over several weeks. The relationship between them is amazing to the point where I’m sure they use Psychic powers, they both instantly know the rules of any game they invent. However, they’ve got totally different personalities. Baxter is the cheeky one who goes straight up to any new visitors but doesn’t understand things like 'cat grass' how to 'hunt' with his toys etc until Brodie shows him. Brodie is the more mature one and dare I say the more intelligent one, but is a little more wary around people. Their condition is amazing, they are in perfect shape with beautiful shiny coats and have great appetites. I do think that’s down to being two of them as well as being on a fresh diet and daily brushing. They say kittens can sleep up to 18-20 hours a day, 'they' must only have one.

I'm about to adopt two kittens but my Dad made me reconsider saying it would be too much...but I just wanted two. I had my late cat for ten years and I always thought I wish I'd gotten two although they were the best ten years of my life. This just came up out of the blue on my feed... I had an odd couple for many years ( mini lop rabbit and a cat) After they passed I waited awhile but finally decided to get a new cat. I only planned to get one kitten but on the spur of the moment decided to get two litter mates. Their personalities are so different but they are very bonded. They are so much fun ! Got myself a single kitten and I can see the advantages getting a pair would have now. This video only confirmed that to me. She's a sweet one, but I can see she is lonely and wants to play at times when I need to go out or when I need to focus on something else. However, not sure I agree with the maintenance costs. Two cats mean two sets of vaccination and deworming, twice the litter, twice the food. Luckily, that's not all that expensive, at least not in my country and for my salary, but still, I don't think you have a solid argument with that point.

When I was ready to commit to cats again, I sought out an older, less adoptable bonded pair. I got Suzy and Woosi-4 1/2 year old siblings. They are together 20/7. I have since adopted a former street cat. They tolerate him, but haven’t bonded. I do think Suzy and Woosi would have died without each other. My 3 will all turn 9 next year- and they’ve been such a source of love and fun during this pandemic!

When i was 14, the cat of my mother's friend had put two little lives on this world. I could take one home, "so which one is it going to be, Bjorn?"... BOTH ! They played, cleaned, slept,... together. It was so lovely! One day, at age 1, the more adventurous one "Bruintje" got run over by a car. I'm not sure whether the other cat "Witje" really understood what was going on; he was allowed to walk around and smell his brother's body but didn't respond to it. Not too long after, it was clear he was looking for his lost brother. From then on, i assumed that role. We became closer than ever. In 2008, Witje's best friend, the neighbours' cat "Bijoux" died. He never got over it. Soon after, Witje also started struggling with his health and eventually he left this world on christmas eve, december 24th 2018. We haven't had the courage to find new cats, as those two brothers were irreplacable. We miss the neighbour's cat too.

Yes! When I moved out of my parents home I planned to just get one kitten (I grew up with cats), but nobody would let me adopt just a single one for the exact reasons you a stating. So I ended up adopting two sisters. They’re almost two now and so much fun to watch! They really love playing together and they also like to sleep together :) they’re so cute and I couldn’t be happier to have two little fluff balls haha 🤍

This is so true. I didn't know about the fact that it also made it easier to bring any new cat into the household. Our kittens are just turning 1 year old and bringing in a new cat is not on the radar screen right now (though 2 of our past 3 cats have been unplanned rescues). We adopted littermates a few years after our last cat died. Decided it was time to restart a family. We had one litter of kittens by accident in the past and we saw how some siblings bonded with one another. So when we responded to the ad, instead of picking kittens ourselves from the litter, we asked the owner to give us two kittens who played with each other a lot and groomed each other (a bonded pair as I just learned that's called). Everything in this video is true. The smaller female often goes to the food dish when her brother eats. The male is more playful. He will go up in our finished attic and call his sister. When I am reading in bed at night, I can hear them run around up there like crazy. I am sure all that playing and exercise is good for their physical and mental health, and not something I would be able to provide. It is so much fun watching them play, and my heart melts when they lick each other like lollipops and sleep in each others arms.

I have brothers and they are like yours. Can’t imagine what what would happen if they were separated. They are so close and very interesting to see them playing and so sweet snuggling. Highly recommended getting close pairs. You won’t regret it.

100% get two kitties/cats. Watching them play together is hilarious, especially if you have you plus another to make them run around after toys/chasers. We have two boys, Mango and Cashew which are rescues are they are brilliant. Guaranteed having them will enhance your life and appreciation of things.

I always advocate having more than one solitary animal in a home. We mostly think of a dog or cat as a pet that will keep us from being bored & give us affection when we are home. Think of how the pet must feel being all alone 40 - 60 hours a week. Even when the pet parent is home most of the time it is still a good idea to consider getting a buddy for the excellent reasons listed in this video. The only down side and something we all need to think about is that with the increasing number of homes having pet, corporate America is now salivating at a chance to get a piece of the pie. Emergency Clinics that deal with after hour/ weekend and speciality care are becoming increasingly out of reach for many pet owners. I won't go into any tales, but would suggest pet insurance, a "pet club" savings account, vet checkups and DO NOT let your animals outside without you and a leash. I don't have my young cats checked every year unless something is off. An older cat, though, can be very secretive about a serious health condition since in the wild a sick animal was another's dinner. And, especially for dogs, get some training. I have heard of so many people that have to get rid of a dog because of a behavior that can be eliminated with some training. If you can't afford it, pick up a book/ video or check out videos, a lot on KZbin, it might be the difference between years of enjoyment with your buddy or a lonely doggo languishing in a shelter. I will say that one of the (very few) positive effects of the pandemic, switching to working permanently from home removes that particular roadblock from getting a cat of my own. My company definitely isn’t going to switch back to a more on-site approach to my work at least (I’m in IT, and have been doing my job just great from home for nearly 2 years now), and for any new jobs in the future I’m definitely going to want the option to work from home a lot of the time (if not all). I’m in the UK, but I definitely take on board the comments about either pet insurance or putting savings aside in case of needing it for vet bills… I’m still looking for the right kitty for me, but I’m pretty good at budgeting for either cumulative costs or potential long term goals, so securing one of those two options when I get my new kitty family member is 100% a requirement for me, and I definitely think it’s a good thing to remind people about!

10 days ago I only got 1 Kitten! My older cats don't mind her but don't like her constantly annoying them. She has a sister that I don't think has been sold yet. I'd only have 2 problems with getting her sister, 1, The price (I am young and saving up money), 2, Convincing my parents. But even if I were allowed to instantly get her, I already have 3 cats now. And she seems to get along fine with both my brother and I as company and things, but I definitely do understand the points. Thank you for this video and your overall content, it's helped me lots and ill start watching more.

I have a bonded pair named Julius and Caesar. One takes showers every day while the other puts up with water. When they were kittens they would sleep on top of each other and now 5 years later they still hug each other as they sleep or sleep forehead to forehead.

My kitten was adopted from a shelter that had all the kittens together and she was the only one who was shy and didn't seem to like the other ones. She is 2 now and has been perfectly happy having her own place and food/litter. She also plays with herself regularly and knows fetch now! I agree kittens can be adopted together but sometimes it's just not necessary.

Today I was planning to buy just one doll face Persian 2 month old kitten then the breeder showed me his brother so I bought both of them thinking that he might be lonely alone. On my way home I suddenly remembered that cats are territorial and I live in a condo I had a feeling that it was a bad idea and they might end up fighting but after watching your video, you made me realize that it was a good decision after all thank you so much for giving me peace of mind.

Four years ago, I became the carer of two beautiful ragdoll kittens from the same litter. Being ragdolls, they are housecats and they are with each other all the time so they are never lonely when I have to go out. You are correct with the benefits of having two cats. They do look after each other, three and a half years ago I have to partially open the windows because of the hot weather. Several hours later, the girl (Freya) starting calling me and I sensed that something was wrong. On looking around the house, I realised that her brother (Wulfric) had escaped. On going outside in the dark to look for him, I heard a faint meow, I went back towards the house and I saw him wandering not far from the front door. I think that he had been hiding in the plants. When he came in, he was shaking and look terrified. If it were not for Freya telling me that something was wrong, it might not have turned out as well as it did. Best of all, I get double the love!!!

Loved this video! We got a second kitten because the first one needed a playmate. They are so much fun! Sometimes they are double trouble. I absolutely cannot have plants on the floor. They will grow up and will be less interested in destroying my plants 🤞. It is worth the sacrifice. One kitten is very shy and the other never meets a stranger. I do think the shy kitten benefits from having her more secure playmate. They add so much to our lives! I highly recommend 2 at a time!😻😻😻

Your kittens are so beautiful! We brought home 3 month old twins, four years ago, and your explanation of the importance of bringing home two instead of one is justified! One is a picky eater, slim yet very active who always loves to play and do cartwheels, while the other loves to eat and is very careful when her sister is in action 😄, she loves to play also but stops in her tracks when she sees her sister. There are times when it’s obvious she’s had enough! So she jumps right in the game and starts to play too and do some cute cartwheels herself! 😄. By the way love the cat tree you have there! I wanted 1 cat. But after watching a million videos on cats, I decided to get 2. I have 2 black kittens that are brothers named Novak & Rafa (Tennis reference). I am so glad I have 2 as I can see the joy they bring eachother that I cannot provide for them. I can only give them the love I know to give, but the way they interact with eachother is unmatched and something no human can give. The only issue is that they look exactly alike..and it'll take me a good 30 seconds to figure out who is who haha. They're only 8 weeks...so once I get collars for them it should be easier.

We adopted our first cat about a year ago. We’ve now just added a new cat this week. The process has been going well so far, but still progressing. Resident was about 4 years old when we adopted him, and the newbie is just over a year old. Resident has a more nervous/distant disposition, while the newbie is a cuddle bug. They are both adapting well, but it will be interesting to see how their interactions develop in a year’s time.

I pick up my 2 ragdoll kittens in 2 hours today!! ... which was initially just going to be Blue but knowing her brother was the last kitten and had yet to find a home, i crumbled. Well they are both home and hiding under the sofa! - Again on watching more of your videos I am leaving them alone so they can get used to their surroundings in their own time (albeit I am itching for a cuddle, but will respect their space). Blue seems a lot more confident than Buddy. Blue has sniffed my hand, so I'm taking that as a good sign. I was just wondering how long it normally takes them to feel relatively secure, days? weeks? and also what do I do with them tonight when I'm ready to sleep? Do I still just leave them to roam or shut them in a particular part of the house? I want to do what's right for them so they can feel safe. I live in the UK so you maybe asleep but I would look forward to your advice. I have tried to google the answers but it all seems contradictory, so I thought I'd ask you. At first, I was planning to get only one kitten. However, the breeder offered me the second one of the same color. They were very bonded together, and she said it’s said to break them apart. This is so true. A friend had four kittens was gonna keep two and give the other to a shelter. I went to get one of them but came back with two. Raising them two has been amazing, super easy and they’re much more playful and happy than a single cat we had before. In fact, watching them play has encouraged our older cat to play more.
