While Patreon may not be right for everyone's channel, there's a lot of reasons why you should use Patreon with your KZbin community. It's great for developing relationships with your viewers, earning money to make your channel sustainable, and growing a community beyond KZbin. A few of the Video Creators patrons joined me to share why we think introducing Patreon to your community is a great idea.

Brilliant video, and so many great reasons for joining Patreon! Can I just take a second to say how happy and excited I am that my clip was chosen to feature in this video! Yay!! Thanks Tim. I'm just never able to play it cool...I get too excited! Anyhow, back to the topic in hand, Patreon is definitely the way to go, I love being able to give back as a Patron, and I love that we, as creators, have options that allow us to bond further with our viewers (as there are definitely limitations on KZbin when it comes to connecting with our audience).

Am loving Patreon as it has connected me with passionate subscribers I never knew we had & as a bonus have made some great friendships as a result. 🙂 I really do take our Patrons seriously & try to upload content daily just for them which could be a picture or a short 1-4 min clip on what I've been up to around the garden/aquaponics. I do think I need to use our patrons as a sounding board more than I do though so will start today with getting their opinion on a clip I'm unsure about posting. On the $$ side of things I think that if the trend continues Patreon will overtake adsense by the end of this year which has really surprised me. BYW, thanks for putting me onto Patreon Tim. I think your page was the second I became a Patron of after joining over there. Cheers & all the best.

I keep trying to adjust my thinking. I am really amazed how well it works for you - averages about $50 a month per Patron if you do the 4 videos and 2 podcasts. Definitely makes it sustainable. Plus all the super chat. The consulting. You've done a really good job of monetizing outside of Adsense. Personally, I still feel if I ever suggested Patreon to my viewed there would be a tremendous backlash. I've seen the videos where creators offered Patreon and the negative feedback was overwhelming. I think it can work but I'm not sure it can work for me

Yep I started using it and for as little as I have done it was well received. I like that I only charge my Patrons for certain videos. So they are charged just for the interviews I do with some old timers that have some pretty interesting stories that are within our niche. For me to get to more of these old timers I will have to travel and the Patreon platform helps me to do this. Also I like the fact that I have a core group of supporters that I can bounce things off of .. questions I should ask, people I should interview , and places I should go. This summer will be the real deal to see how far it can go but I feel optimistic. The only problem that I have really had was a couple of corporate sponsors that didn't feel comfortable with Patreon and wanted to pay me direct but also wanted to brand the content.. I don't want to loose control or for someone else to brand it .. I brand it myself no tell how big it might get lol

I think I'll wait a little while before introducing patreon (if I ever do). My target audience is teens and younger viewers and I know that most of them are probably not in a position to pledge any money. Also, since I am a teen myself, I do not have to worry about paying any bills. For that reason, I don't want to push my subscribers for money when there are other creators who need that patreon money more than I do.

I have set up and launched a Patreon page but with under 1,000 subs I haven't yet introduced it to my audience. I guess I'm still getting to grips with what I'd like to offer and how to provide more value on Patreon than I do via KZbin. I also don't want to send people across to a page with no funding...I think social proof helps to build momentum and I'm worried that seeing a $0 page might put people off.

I started a Patreon page a few weeks ago (based on your suggestions during a live stream that very evening), but I haven't yet done anything with it. I'm just not sure how to use it - what kind of content to put on there, etc.. I've thought about posting exclusive content that I wouldn't necessarily feel is right for my larger KZbin community, but even then, I have no clue as to how I'd like to use it for my community. I'm stuck.

I have a Patreon page; however, I do not promote it much. Rather, when someone in my live stream suggests I make a Patreon page I put the link into the live chat. One of the reasons I do not promote it much is as a gamer I know that most of my audience or people still in school who are reliant on their parents and I don't want to exclude them from me or my content because of that. So, its a mix of finding the right type of content to offer to patrons without alienating the majority of my community but to also attract those that can afford it and would like to contribute. All that being said, I opened a merch store and it wasn't until I wore one of my shirts that someone else actually ordered a couple of items because of seeing me wear it. Things are looking up! :-)

Welcome's House that makes sense to me! :-) Congrats on over 2500 subscribers! Although, if you are supporting charities you could also think about letting your subscribers know they could assist with that through Patreon. This is something you could do, too, once you've reached a higher subscriber amount, say 10K or more.

Hi Tim! I'd love to use Patreon, unfortunately I don't have enough audience to do it. I'd love to use it in the future and I have a lot of ideas about making a great community where everybody feels like they matter (because they'd totally matter!). I think patreon is one of the best tools for creators (and, well, all of us as fans) to ever be created and I think it's the future when it comes to business model, so I'd like to jump on that train as soon as I think it's the right time 😁

I'm really on the fence about using Patreon. I remember someone else in my niche trying it and it getting a fairly negative response. My audience is mainly younger which again is contributing to my reluctance, but I suppose there is no harm in taking the leap and seeing what happens.

Actually using Patreon is only making the part of your audience that can give to you monthly give to you. You will lose the money from your non-monthly supporters as Patreon does not have a one time payment option and does not want to have it. Their way of allowing people to give a one time payment is one that many of your audience will not want to use.

It makes sense what Patreon can do, but rather than hear from other creators, I would like to know how viewers feel about it. Do viewers have the same desire to participate in Patreon if a creator's content is more entertainment (i.e. Family Vlog), rather than a how to type of content?

Thank you for making this video, it's something I've been debating for a little while. My channel I feel is definitely on the up and I've now managed to get a sponsorship for the content. Would having a patreon on top asking people for even more money to help the channel grow come across as a little greedy? What would show greed is by using Patreon you are, in effect telling your fans who can only give on a non-monthly basis that their money is not worth as much to you and if you have perks, it will send the message that you do not think their money is worth them getting the perks. That is truly being greedy.

it depends on how you are filming your videos. if the camera you are using isn't wide screen format, the bars will show up, as well as if you are using a cell phone and holding it vertically. the only thing I could suggest is seeing if you could crop it down with you video editing software, that might help

I am fairly new as well so I am unsure about all that can be done myself. I use windows movie maker myself and would suggest that you experiment with your editing software. Heres my question. I have 600 subs. Probably tommrow since i have 596. I would love to have a good laptop and recording software. I need 400 dollars and i know that i have a loyal fan base willing to donate. But how do I introduce it and not look like a sell out?

I have a Patreon (no Patrons, though), but it does make me feel bad to promote it much because it feels like I'm asking people for money, ya know? I started by talking about it in vids, but I stopped that because it felt icky. I've settled with just putting a link in all my end screens to it, without really talking about it. I guess that feels better, lol...

I want to start my own Patreon page, but two concerns come to mind: 1) Is there a certain number of subscribers necessary to establish it? 2) What is the best way to run your Patreon when you don't have any merchandise rewards to offer to your Patrons?

Should very small channels start this? I have barely 20 subacribers and only one actively engages with me and my videos.

Been there and done that. You better have great video content to offer before doing so. I no longer care to beg for $ using such a thing. My content wasn't and still isn' t high enough quality, nor is it consistent enough for anyone to donate to it. Realtalk!
