CS Major is so much better than Bootcamps. Degree is valuable as Bootcamps offering courses only covers like 10% of what Computer Science is all about - it is a hard skill. One go to a Bootcamp to study Java that makes him Java Programmer but when you are a CS major we learned more than one Programming Language and you can land in any IT roles - Software Engineer, Technical Business Analyst, IT Manager etc

Woah. I wasn’t going to comment but I think I have to. Coding is taught to third graders now (not required but taught). My sister has been using scratch and they introduced it to her at school(this was two years ago now) and they’ve used it ever since. It’s paving the way. But I don’t believe it will be required soon..

Wow that’s pretty amazing to hear that even children are learning how to code at a relatively young age! My guess is that it will probably be required sometime within the next 50 years, so not super soon, but I do think it will be added to curriculums at some point!

Hi! Great video- this has been really informative- Random question: should you have to absolutely enjoy your Intro courses for the major? I’m currently a freshman in my spring semester- and Intro to CS (using Java) as well as Discrete Math was very tough and challenging (math was my least favorite class) but when I understand what I am doing I can enjoy it- I also want to go into AI Engineering down the road so I do have a goal to work towards but I do really know what you mean about the impostor syndrome
@adebs
@adebs 2 жыл бұрын
No, I wouldn't say you have to enjoy them, but you also would not want to dread them either! The classes are meant to be challenging, which can make them a lot less enjoyable. I think the fact think the fact that you can enjoy Discrete Math even you understand it is a good sign! I definitely did not enjoy all of my classes, but I still felt that computer science was the right choice for me. 🤗 AI is so big right now, so it's awesome that you want to go into it! Don't let imposter syndrome get the best of you (easier said than done 😩) Keep up the good work, I am sure you are doing great!!

Hey! sorry, can I get an update of how it’s been so far? I’m going to enter my 1st year of college very soon and I want to give CS a try, has it been very challenging? Is there a lot of math classes? (Math was never my best subject, however I also enjoyed it when I understood!)
@butteredtequilla9046
@butteredtequilla9046 2 жыл бұрын
@@Jessica-ei7rh That's great! So if your school has a tutoring system, I highly recommend using it during your first year. My intro to cs started with learning JAVA. People say it's hard but it's not impossible to learn at all! Once you get a bit more comfy with the language, it's gonna feel more like logic than anything. I was struggling at first- but I actually ended up really enjoying it! don't let grades define you- I did a lot worse my second class (mostly bc the teacher was awful) but I really learned a lot! My best advice that I can give you is to not beat yourself up for not knowing something- don't feel embarrassed to ask something- many students in the class are beginners just like you! If you don't understand something, ask your professor or TA or better yet a tutor at your school- lmk if u wanna talk more or if u have any questions!!
@butteredtequilla9046
@butteredtequilla9046 2 жыл бұрын
@@Jessica-ei7rh also discrete math is straight up garbage lol maybe you would have teachers that would actually be able to teach y'all better but the way it was taught for me just seemed like a waste of time- in my uni, you HAVE to take it, but i would avoid it as much as possible---other than that its all good-

I’m currently in CS and it’s not very intimidating, honestly the boys will more likely be intimidated by you😅 also the teachers like having girls in their classes, and are usually very nice and try to make you feel welcomed there

Yes, especially if your interested in front end, but if your more interested in the UX/UI aspect, check to see if your school has an HCI or interaction design degree! You will survive, you got this 🤗

Hmmm those are 2 very different career paths, so I would recommend making a pro/con list! To start off, you can get a job just with your bachelors degree as a CS major, but with Law,it would require an additional 3 years of law school + you would need to pass the Bar!

do computer scientists have no social life and is their job boring and monotonous ?
@adebs
@adebs 2 жыл бұрын
Hahah I like this question! It depends on what role you have, but I'd say no! Most people probably work 40-60 hour weeks, but we don't really have crazy hours like other jobs where people are working 80+ hours/week. The job being boring or monotonous really depends on your role, but if your a software engineer or product/program manager, you're usually working on iterations of new features, so your job should really never get boring!

I don't think computer science grads can work anywhere since they are jobless in Asia. And not every single company needs them. I think business administration is the only degree which is very universal because everyone needs marketing, finance, hrm, supply chain etc.
