I wanted to be a professional football player when I was a kid. I was fairly decent but not good enough to make it. It’s been the same story with everything else in my life I’ve tried. So I’ve had to work hard and try. I enjoy my job and hobbies, but there are naturally talented people who do my job, and I’m not one of them. I’ve just done ok through hard work and effort, if a passion is going to choose me, I wish it would hurry up as I’m nearly 50 now!

Bukowski definitely has a twisted view of our collective stupidities. I love listening to him as it challenges me to think differently, and to realize that I don't know shit, but I will continue to try, or Go All The Way. Do it do it do it!! I will always being indebted to this man for deciding to follow his God's chosen passion. I'm going to stop soon as I believe he is a kindred spirit of mine, and I could literally do hours of dialogue as to the help I have gotten from this Man through His Work. Thank you for this!

Interesting video and perspective, but It reminds me of the classic analogy of heaven and hell, where people are unable to feed themselves because of impossibly long utensils. In hell, they starve, focused on their own plight, while in heaven, they thrive by feeding each other. Thinking beyond our personal desires is the key to success, specially in capitalism.

Chuck shaped my ideas about art and how to be in the world in so many ways. I remember learning of his passing while at a bookstore in Grand Rapids, MI. I stood in the store and cried. I was supposed to go visit him the following month. In many ways, he was a "problematic" writer, but I think that misses this point. Like Henry Miller, he ultimately pointed to something higher and truer that lives in all of us. Doing what you love is no guarantee of an easy life in a material sense. But isn't it better to go to bed a little hungry but happy rather than bloated and feeling you've wasted your time? Thanks for this video!

I knew from the start, I couldn't "be anything I wanted to be!" I always knew that was BS. On top of knowing I was "different", for reasons I didn't understand, I felt the added pressure of expectations that I knew I could never come close to filling.

It's not that helpful as an idea "be anything you want," because it doesn't narrow down a huge range of possible choices. Are you into knitting, chess, tennis, fast food, model railroads? Video games? Beer? So there is a huge range of stuff to choose from, both as a career and as a fun hobby....The thing they are actually trying to say is "Pick something!" Find what you love to do and try to make a living doing it. If you are really lucky there might be 2 or 3 possibilities.

My dear, Find what you love and let it kill you. Let it drain you of your all. Let it cling onto your back and weigh you down into eventual nothingness. Let it kill you and let it devour your remains. For all things will kill you, both slowly and fastly, but it’s much better to be killed by a lover. - Falsely yours” - Charles Bukowski

It is interesting to think that we are moulded from birth into something, but what something. Moulded to prosper, but to where does it end. Meanwhile we distract from the person we carry somewhere inside that is certain. We choose the uncertain self because so does everyone else. To be certain is to be wrong. Everyone knows what they are passionate about if they just stop thinking for awhile. The problem people face is that they think it can only be a career because if it’s not I’m a failure. Well tell that to a man who loved the same woman for 60 years. His success of his passion is his very relationship itself. Not profitable. But our passions make us overtly happy to live another day. We are taught that our passion must move mountains. Well mountains don’t move they only erode. To those who say the have no passion I ask you have you looked? Inside? Have you been blocking your inner confident being because you think it’s wrong or bad or unacceptable. Our greatest passions are personal, which often makes them seem scary to bring to light unless it’s something we can directly benefit from, either with accolade or immediate gain. It does not have to a thing it can be a person or idea.

I have gone broke trying to find a way to survive on doing more of what I am passionate for. I would also be content to have a "boring" job, to have enough energy left over for things that matter to me. I just cannot survive on one.

Keep looking. The looking around process can be fun, that is now your new passion. The problem is that there are so many things, and even for an average person it's still a huge buffet to choose from. You are an explorer, if you want to.

What a pity this narrator is so aweful at communicating. IS HE READING EVERTY WORD LIKE A ROBOT. Great video apart from that - I guess you're using a AI voice. When making these videos get a human with expression, not a person who sounds like a robot.
