UPDATE: Smash Cafe hasn't had Kirby Fighters 2 since Summer 2022. I've gotten a few comments about it every now and then but forgot to update this pinned comment/description until now.
If anyone in the Kansas City is interested in offline KF2, I can look into see about getting it back at Smash Cafe (different TOs than back then, so not sure if I can) or another event in Kansas City!

I worked hard on this video explaining competitive KF2 at easy to understand, but curiosity engaging perspective!

You probably noticed the difference in mic qualities at different points during this video. That's because I started working on this video last year on the side for fun, with no rush to really upload it. It was about 95% complete when my old laptop died and I lost the project file.
However I had uploaded a version of it about 60% done unlisted to show some friends. So I was able to use that to salvage what I could instead of making the video from scratch. But since I finished it with my new laptop, that's why some parts (mostly the later end) have different mic qualities, since I used the built in laptop mic for all the voice recordings, but two different laptops.
So yeah, this vid was definitely a pain to salvage and finish. But I love Kirby Fighters 2 more than anything and really want to grow this game into a bunch of new communities and hopefully more local offline scenes pick it up! So any likes or supportive comments would be greatly appreciated!

If anyone is struggling with chapter 5, try archer or fighter, with hammer as a partner, then pick up any quick charge badges you see. Your charged projectiles both pierce and do massive damage, so you're pretty much able to clear floors and bosses without much thought or effort involved.

I've never even thought of those strats! I just try to get attack badges and and HP every so often and mash and it seems to work out! Hopefully this will help some people! =]

Fighter is better than archer for this strat, the only thing now has that's better is that he can aim

That'd be awesome to see another Yo-Yo main! There was a Yo-Yo player at the beginning of the game who was a top 5 player, but he quit and no one as good as him with Yo-Yo has come around since. It'd be awesome if the mantle was picked up again!

I love this game I got It on release day It's so fun and I love beam and bell I would love to play this game completely I wish this game had a competitive mode for online also I love your videos and I love to see this game have a detective fans that host tournaments and play this awesome game completely

That's awesome to hear! Yeah, while the gameplay is amazing, it not having built in 1 vs 1 Free Play really hurt it, sadly. It was also a victim of unfortunate circumstances such as the shadow drop, as well as coming out during the pandemic, since most fighting games need an offline scene to strive. In my heart I'd like to believe offline can still happen with enough love and the right people. We'll see. I'm glad to hear you've been playing since day 1 and still play!

Kirby Fighters 2 is such an interesting game. For as many similarities as it has with Smash, it also has so many differences. It's one of, if not _the_ only platform fighter I know of that has both a health bar and no blast zones. On top of that, its input system is very different from most platform fighters. I keep coming back to watch this game because of just how unique it is. Combos and movement in this game can be pretty sick.

That's great to hear! There will be VODs next week, as this week is gonna be the premiere of Kirby Fighters 2 at Smash Cafe! IIRC it's gonna be the first offline weekly for the game in the US, so it'll be something to look forward to! I'm also in the process of scripting another guide! I hope you look forward to it! =]

As someone who’s been KF2 competitively with my brother since launch, I’m so happy this video exists! I even learned some new stuff with it. Just curious, why are all the demo characters considered low tier? I think that Staff and Bandana Waddle Dee is easily lower and upper mid tier respectively.

I'm glad you enjoyed this video! Hopefully it gets some new players into KF2! And the reason they're considered low tier is: Staff: Bad frame data and low damage output. In one way or another, Staff is outclassed in pretty much every category by another character. Bandana Dee: Even though his jab is really good and does have jab mix ups. He's kinda just "jab the character" and due to his lack of frame data, can't be creative or innovative about much. I'm glad I liked the video and I hope those explanations make sense! For what it's worth, if you still believe in the characters, by all means play them and feel free to prove the status quo wrong!

@@kirbyfightersdojo3006 I made my own tier list a few months ago so the meta probably has shifted since then, but have people gotten better at playing around Staff’s insane range? If so then yeah, I’d say that knocks him down a few pegs as he loses his single greatest advantage. As for BWD, he’s got much more than a solid jab. Ground Thrust is such an insane burst option that can shut down most projectile spammers. On top of his jab and dropping/resetting the combo, his shield and corner pressure are really good thanks to 2B cancel mixups, j.2B and j.2B cancelling it. His j.2B is great at alleviating juggling against plenty of characters, and his 5[B] and 8B are good at juggling plenty of characters. Not to mention he deals really good damage even with some simple combos. He’s by no means a top tier-I think he struggles a bit with alleviating shield pressure (which appears to be a big part of the KF2 meta), and many of his toughest matchups are characters I consider top tiers and very popular characters, which hurts when considering weighted matchups. However, I feel that he’s got a solid enough neutral, pressure, range, and DPS that I’d argue he’s on the fringes of high tier (although high tier may just be my bias for the character in general).

@@FedoraKirb People have gotten way better vs Staff. Staff was considered top tier like week 1, but Staff is arguably considered the worst in the game. People have gotten good at rushing down Staff and exposing Staff's bad frame data. Although theoretically Staff has all the tools to interact, because you don't really accomplish anything by camping Staff, and they do have a counter for reading/punishing aggression, although obviously it's very committal. Chino, a Staff player has beaten Colgate though, who's the best MK in the world (or top 2, it's him or Gekiatu), so if you believe in your character, there's no reason not to try them. As for Bandana Dee, Ground Thrust just starts up too slow unless your opponent is already committing to a button, since I believe it's start up is somewhere in the 20s. If by j.2B, you mean down air, it's true that it has a frame 5 start up, but only at a very small portion of his body. If your opponent is juggling/combo'ing him the right way, they won't get combo/string broken by it. Bandana Dee DOES have some tourney success though, I believe a player named Wink beat Croc in the early days of KF2 when Croc used to be the best Wrestler. And I've seen some Dees take games off top MKs. And apparently Sarome (Japanese Bandana Dee, the best Bandana Dee) has beaten Sabamiso, who's the best Gooey in Japan. So if you believe in the characters, feel free to push forward with them! =]

@@kirbyfightersdojo3006 I see. Staff struggling up close would probably cripple it. You’re right about Ground Thrust being slow, but I think in neutral it’s generally more for closing the gap to get to midrange and destroying non-transcendent projectiles rather than actually hitting anyone with it, especially if you jump cancel. That’s how I use it anyway, since directly challenging Moon Drop can require some good movement. And Moon Drop as an anti-juggling tool isn’t perfect admittedly, but I don’t think it should be downplayed either. It won’t put Bandana Dee in advantage but I think the threat of it thanks to the range of the spear can help reset. Of course, I guess it’s up to us BWD mains to prove these elements in practice. And thus begins my journey to show the world the true power of Bandana Dee…
