Why You Should Rent A Jeep On Maui!

I don't consider myself a Maui connoisseur (more a Jeep connoisseur), but I've been there for a couple weeks in 2012, and will be going again in a couple months. The short answer is NO, you do not need a Jeep there, unless you just want to drive one. I went all over the island, visited pretty much every single tourist attraction there is to visit - a 4x4 is not required. Even if you find a random dirt road, you will not have time to take it! Your vacation time is limited and you don't want to waste time dragging your ass on a dirt road, that most surely goes no where exciting or unique anyway. Rent a Mustang convertible, you will enjoy it much-much more! You'll be driving a lot on this island (if you want to see everything), and will be spending a lot of time in a vehicle, so might as well make this part equally enjoyable. If you're so inclined to rent a Jeep, then just rent a stock Jeep. A 2 door if it's just 2 of you. 4 door if you have 4 people and want them to get in and out easier, or just need extra cargo space for luggage. For the love of gawd do not overpay 2-3x for this lifted Jeep!! It will ride horrible. 4" of lift is a lot, especially when it's done improperly, like this one that still has stock control arms and the caster is all out of wack because of the 4" lift - it will wander all over the road. The tires which look to be a load E tire and are way overinflated, will ride real, real rough, especially over bumps and dirt roads (if you even gonna find one). The Jeep will feel sluggish because of the bigger and heavier tires over stock - I bet it's probably not even regeared to compensate for the bigger tires. You will hate your life. I drive a lifted Jeep with just a 2.5" lift, but it's being lifted properly and has proper tire air pressure, and has been regeared. Still it drives nothing like a comfortable little car, with its solid axles front and rear. Anyways, you've been warned.

That narrow road you took (hwy 340) + the road crossing at the southern end of Maui (hwy 31) are the best roads to cruise on the entire island! Much better than the overhyped Hana highway. Totally the 2 must do roads on Maui. Both can be done in any car. Oh yeah, and add the road coming down from Haleakala volcano when you are above thick clouds - experience of a lifetime!

Trust me, this particular Jeep will NOT be fun to drive. I can tell you it's a cheap lift with overinflated tires. If you want shit handling and rough ride, then by all means rent it.

Wow, this video must have taken FOREVER to film. All those awesome drone and Jeep shots. Amazing job as always. I think it would be worth it to take those back roads too that you aren't allowed to take with the car. I have never heard of car companies limiting where you can go - or maybe I just didn't read that before. Oops!
