We went this May as well. Never been before that but we heard from a lot of locals how slow it felt. We stayed in Ka’anapali so right next door to Lahaina. We shopped local the whole time and supported however we could while staying respectful. Breaks my heart to see the before and after of Lahaina. Show your support everyone. Take that trip to Maui 🫶🏽

Tears flowing as I'm watching your fabulous video tour. I've been to and done almost everything mentioned in your video. We own a Kahana timeshare, was last there in 2021 (our 4th trip since 1999). We dined almost nightly in Lahaina on Front Street and so sad to see drone footage from another video that it's all gone. Except the Banyan Tree. Such aloha that it's coming back strong. Maybe we can return in 2027 (our timeshare is a bi-annual usage). Hope to see improvements speed up as the burnt out areas have been finally cleaned up. Mahalo for showing West Maui back for tourism and my Aloha to the residents of Lahaina who've lost so much!

Well done video!! We just spent last week in Napili, and the week before in Oahu and the Big Island. It was our first time to Hawaii so we can't do a comparison. The only time we had to wait in line was at the Gazebo for breakfast, we were there 1/2 hour before it opened. We ate and shopped local, and everyone was very nice. I have been following some people since the fire. It is extremely sad that residents aren't getting the assistance they need. And it was very sad seeing the devastation firsthand. Homeless seems to be an issue but on all the islands not just Maui, again I can't compare to the past. Oh heck, the whole USA has a homeless problem. I totally agree, GO!! If you have been thinking about it, now is the time. There is plenty to do and see!! The Old Lahani Luau was wonderful!! God bless and happy travels!

looking at may 25 going for our honeymoon! idk if wailea or ka’anapali … any advice ?
@TheVacationAgent26 күн бұрын
First of all, congratulations 🍾! Second, thank you for watching and commenting! Third and most important, you really can’t go wrong with either. Wailea has more of an upscale feel. The hotels, shopping, restaurants, and golf courses are all very high end. And you have Kehei close by. But the beaches are not as good as in Kaanapali. On the other hand, Kaanapali is more family friendly and although very nice and high end as well, it doesn’t have that same top tier feel. Kaanapali beach is always rated as one of the best beaches in the world with every activity you can think of. Also black rock and Napili beach have some of the best snorkeling anywhere. Both places are top notch for romance and both places will definitely make lifetime memories. To me, it’s deciding whether to stay somewhere high class and a little more structured or somewhere more loose and family friendly. Hope this helps! Let us know what you decide to do!!!
@johnsonlevy14226 күн бұрын
@ excellent feed back thanks!! Well, we are nightowels and like lounges bars but I don’t think there would be much difference there since Lahani probably is not up and running fully? Less kids would be great but then torn with the better beaches in Kaanapali ! Rough decision for sure ! Thanks again for the through feed back!! doing honolulu for 4 days and maui for -4-5 guess not worth it to split 2 and 2 with Wailea and Kaanapali right? I love an upscale vibe of course with the right pool and beach it’s amazingl.
@TheVacationAgent26 күн бұрын
My wife and I are Hyatt people. We’ve stayed at the Andaz Wailea and we owned a timeshare at Hyatt Residence Club Kaanapali. If you want to kill two birds then it’s not a bad idea to split the nights. But for that honeymoon vibe, you can’t go wrong with Wailea. It’s a great spot for couples. Kihei just up the road or Makena just down the road both have amazing beaches. Plus you’re right next to turtle town where you can snorkel or get a glass bottom kayak and look for sea turtles. Really, it’s Hawaii. You cannot go wrong. The only drawback is like you said, Lahaina is still not back to normal. I don’t think it’ll be back like it was for at least another 5-10 years. 🙁
@johnsonlevy14225 күн бұрын
@ Thank you so much! you have been extremely helpful! Waliea sounds like the best Bet I was looking and saw bars are open till 12 so that’s a plus seems like bars open later there than Kaanapali actually . I’m sure that’s with all that has happened Any preference on which town has better restaurants? we like the upscale vibe and the better resorts so this sounds of our ally. we like late night life, but it sounds like with Lahaina it is best for us to go Waliea instead. I am sad we’ll miss out on the best beaches but know it is Hawaii. We like Hyatt as well. Any thoughts on resorts down there as well? i only saw the hyatt that peaked interest but wondering on the beach the Hyatt has while the marriott too stood out too and similar concerns on the beach access. would be nice to have something right outside the pool area .Thanks again! big help!
@TheVacationAgent25 күн бұрын
An absolute must for dinner is Mama’s Fish House in Pa’ia. It’s a bit of a hike but it’s absolutely worth it. Especially for a honeymoon. By far the best restaurant on Maui. But if I had to choose between the two areas, kaanapali has a slight edge restaurant wise. As for hotels, I totally recommend the Hyatt Andaz Wailea. Four Seasons Wailea if you can afford it, or the Ritz Carlton or Fairmont in Wailea.

I think we're on the same team...did you watch the video? It basically states what you just said; that we need more Maui tourism so that locals have the revenue and the inspiration to build back better than ever. Maui is back in the sense that it is open and needs visitors. I agree that it's not back to the way it was, and may never get back because of the economy, but those that love Maui like myself, need to return as much as possible. It's a win win, really. We get to be in paradise and help their economy at the same time.

Maui is not getting the government funding it should to be rebuilt. The cost for residents who have lived there for generations is unaffordable and It’s never going to be the same. Locals don’t want visitors anywhere near Lahaina. Going up to Napili or down to wailea doesn’t help whatsoever.
@TheVacationAgent8 ай бұрын
From where did you get your information? Locals absolutely want people to visit areas in Lahaina that are open to the public. If you’re referring to residential areas then yes, local officials do not want non residents around the area mainly for safety concerns. But local businesses and local employees absolutely welcome tourists. And visiting surrounding areas does help because many of the service workers from Lahaina are now working in those areas you mentioned, Nāpili, Wailea, etc. The one thing we can agree on is that the government, both local and federal have been a joke at handling this crisis. They need to step up big time and it’s a shame they haven’t up to this point.

@ChatGPT1111 if you dwell on it, yes, you will be depressed. But as the video shows, right now, there are so many things to be excited about and appreciative of, and most importantly, Maui locals need all the tourism help they can get. Will it be better or less depressing in a year or two? Most likely. But there is a unique dynamic in Maui right now where an air of appreciation lies just under the surface, which makes every experience a little more deeper and meaningful.

They need visitors for recovery, but they ask visitors to be respectful. Avoid the burn areas, do not take videos or photos of the burn areas, and do not ask locals about their experience of the fires. Local businesses are truly struggling, which impacts the entire economy. They need the support of tourism to survive. The entire Maui economy is dependent upon it

We would say that yes, there definitely is a very small minority of people who think that way. But that minority are people that already don't like tourists.
