I retired at 62. I am now 68. It was the best decision I ever made and recommend it to everyone! I live frugally and how I want to live and answer to no one but my dog. Congratulations and enjoy every moment of your retirement!!! 🎉🎉🎉

My father, after a lot of initial indecision, retired at 62. It took him about a year to get into the retirement lifestyle, and start enjoying it, but he did, hunting and fishing more days than he didn't. He died of a heart problem at 69. I am so glad he didn't wait until 67.

I am glad too! He got to enjoy himself.

I retired at 51 in 2021 and will be 55 in a few months. The best money decision I ever made. I'm living off my Department of Justice pension and veteran compensation. I haven't touched my retirement savings account even though there no penalty. I plan on drawing my social security at 62. I received free healthcare benefits from VA and carry blue cross blue shield from DOJ. I'm currently working on my doctorate degree. I'm living in the 4th quarter of my life but am financial free.

Why you should retire at 62 (not 67) ? absolutely TIME IS WORTH MORE THAN MONEY !

I retired st 62 also. Did a reverse mortgage on my home that I still had 23 years to pay on. Now I pay no mortgage. Paid off bills and I am a happy camper. Opened a cart kiosk at the Mall. A Faith based Gift Shop with Gift Baskets, Gift Mugs, Bibles, Tshirts, Devotionals and more. Love getting out but on my own terms. No way I was staying home and going from the chair to the couch. Best decision I ever made getting it at 62. 67 ain't promised to you

I’ll be 62 in January and cannot wait. Im definitely retiring as soon as I can. I was going to wait until FRA, but it’s not worth it. I’m in the most micro-managed job ever. Every minute of my day has to be accounted for, even in this remote position. I’m counting down. I have a side hustle planned, and looking forward to that. Love these videos!!

I’m really ready to retire today! I’m 63 and the same thing has happened at my job. I telework two days/week now. I live in Los Angeles. Any commute no matter where you go is a minimum of 30 minutes to and an hour from. What is the point of getting dressed and driving to the office to do the same thing I can do from home. If they move my office like they’re threatening to do, it will be even further away. I’m going to have to retire then. I’m thinking about opening a business and using Zoom, uTube, and the other social media platforms to work part-time. It will require I get a certification that will take abt a year. I was hoping to stay at my job until I finished it. I’ll have to see what happens. Congratulations on your retirement!! Thank you for sharing your experience. 🎉🥳👏👏👏

Thank you DyedInTheWoodDen! I am glad you are looking into moving on to a more enjoyable (retirement) job. I agree 1000% that companies should not take away the telework option.

Yep, I took it at 62 as well. I'm 66 now and I don't regret it. I would have had a few hundred dollars more taking it now, but I have a pension and a 401K and that just few hundred dollars. wouldn't make that much difference in our life.

@motherboomer3 ай бұрын
Hello beautiful Karen! Yes, insurance. If I didn't have my spouse insurance I probably would not have retired yet. It's that gap between 62 and 65 (Medicare) that is a problem.

I retired and started drawing Social Security at age 62. It was just one more bad financial decision on my part. Had I waited three more years, I would have been receiving $1,000 more per month in Social Security benefit. If you are healthy and able to work, keep working as long as you can and postpone taking your SS benefit even until past your retirement age because you will receive an even larger monthly benefit if you wait. If Social Security is going to be your only source of income in your retirement, you are going to struggle making ends meet and it will be extremely difficult to avoid slipping into credit card debt. Just a warning.
@motherboomer3 ай бұрын
Yes for some it might not be the best move. But one can work while on Social Security, but there's a cap on how much if not full retirement age. I may have to un-retire for awhile if it's too tight.😑But for now I am free!
@tmb22263 ай бұрын
@@motherboomer I had to un-retire myself. I learned to drive school bus and drove for five years. I had more fun and got more satisfaction from driving school bus than I did from my 40-year career. For parents and grandparents suffering from empty nest syndrome, driving school bus is the solution. Life is more joyful being around kids. We all want to live a long life, so we should all save diligently and plan well so that we have multiple income streams in our retirement. For me, living alone, it's been a struggle trying to make it on Social Security as my sole source of income. These days a person has to be enterprising and creative even into old age when you are your only source of support.

@@tmb2226 I am glad that your second career was even more fulfilling than your first. Yes, Social Security ALONE is not enough for most people with the cost of living these days.

Everyone's situation is different so look hard at your finances and what your cost of living is along with health care cost are going to be before you pull the plug. Being forced back into work if you have to at 70 isn't going to be fun. Good luck!
