Legit though, I think they have some kind of anti-aggro buff... I don't have any information to back this up, but I avoid detection more often than not when I sneak and have the lantern even if the character's stealth isn't high.

Great video! I once had a beak thing nest spawn right next to a hiver village, literally just across the river. Everyone was getting along until I aggroed the beak things. I got to loot the nests for eggs though, so that was nice.

Also, unlike the Southern Hive which is aggressive and antagonistic. The Western Hive is the second friendliest faction in the game after the Crab Raiders, so long as you're nice to them and not an exiled Hiver. They also love sending Cat rich caravans to cities and player bases to trade and if you're located in Vain, you'll be the first stop! Doesn't matter there isn't Iron in the region, you do not need to be self sufficient in Vain; There you can be co-dependent with the Hivers. Trade copper and hide for Iron. Basically, you're playing a Civ game there, make friends with the locals and establish a trade network. This is also the best location for "out of the box" Freedom Seekers, if you don't want to first go to a city to tech up. No one will bother you, the Hivers will trade with you and protect you and even tier 1 base defences is enough to keep out breakthings and other wildlife as the only attack you if they see you. If you set up on the coast in the top corner, you'll also avoid pretty much everyone you'd want to avoid, including dust bandits. The only thing you really need to look out for when travelling to the Hivers and back to base is Breakthings.

Once build a retirement lodge (snailhouse) on one of the islands. Pretty cool, make it self sufficient with hydroponics, small wind turbines, nice camping spot outside etc. upside, enemies can be seen from a mile away. and you won't be bothered. downside, going to land took 5 minutes irl, and you need to bring All the materials. was fun though
@paulrogersgaming
@paulrogersgaming Жыл бұрын
From a role playing perspective, that's a perfect retirement spot. No worries about getting attacked, and if people aren't leaving/arriving frequently the swim isn't so bad.
@tylermathis3840
@tylermathis3840 Жыл бұрын
Good beakthing strategy: All beakthings attacks do low-moderate AOE damage to targets in front of them in their attack range and high single damage to their intended target. This is why even a small swarm of beakthings appears to squad wipe easily and consistently. Instead of grouping on beakthings, have a high defense character blocking as the bait, and move a couple guys behind it. Your blocker will take minimal damage while your hitters quickly incapacitate it. If you get a swarm, just make sure each beakthing is separated and focused on one target to allow your heavy hitters to deal one-on-one kills until you can gang up and rescue your weaker characters.

This location is actually full of spots for a good base! Aside from spots you've shown, there are some other decent ones there I've found on my own. But beak things' nests there can be really annoying! They've nearly killed one of my squads of 3 40+ warriors (others were left back in Hub) and some 10-15 stat rookies.

@@paulrogersgaming I too suffered my first deaths in Vain. I think I quitted after that, feeling Kenshi was too hard for me. Now I'm back with Universal Wasteland Expansion mod and after recruiting a 20 ppl/animal squad, I thought it would be a good plan to visit the nearby hive village in Vain. Heavily encumbered a single Gorrillo wiped my entire squad lol. Not giving it up this time though!

I would unironically recommend Vain as a good getting started shack location if you started at the Hub, get Hobbs, do some iron and hungry bandit strength and toughness training, head off to get Beep, show up in vain, mine ALL ZE COPPER, sell to hivers, get backpacks, and start hauling goods between Vain and the Hub for some early capital, and further hungry and dust bandit combat training. If you feel invested it might be worth settling long term, or use your strengthened up starting crew to head out somewhere else either to settle or adventure, maybe get Beep to intentionally lose a limb or two to get Borg Beep going. I would also recommend the region for those familiar with the game, but have no idea what they are doing for settlements as its a perfect learning area for settlements in my opinion if you can handle the danger.

I love vain. It's my favorite early game base region. Perfect for leveling your armorsmith with just making animal skins to leather alone. Plus, you can level up your scientist by doing electronics, which is easier to sell than copper, when you are recovering in between adventures for research materials. Also, dont sleep on Shun for early game base. No raids. No tax. Alot of Ancient Libraries around you for early research. Plus, if you settle near the river or water, you can grow excess catcus for rum, trade that rum with the swamp, buy sake and hash there, then sell it to clownsteady/drifters last, and pickup anything you need there before returning home to complete your trade circle.

It is also located nice and close to the HN if you plan on taking them out, only issue I really had was iron but I worked around that with theft on the western hive but mostly just turning squad size up for roamers and groups when I was strong enough. The real issue arises when you have hundreds of rendered corpses and have to manually transport all the items to the scrapper lol D;@@paulrogersgaming

Am I the only one who absolutely DREADS fighting gorillos? They may be slow (when they don’t run), but their attacks can staggerloop even characters with 70+ melee att, and they are really friggin’ tanky… I have the Hives Expanded and Hiver Expansion mods, which significantly buff hivers by making the villages more populated and giving both good weapons and heavy armor to them, but even with those mods about five gorillos can sizably wreck a village!

You know, the beginning of this video puzzles me. Do people really play this game like this? Mark your entire team and right click on an enemy? No.... you know... spreading your guys to avoid AoE attacks, no avoiding splash damage from multiple guys getting hit by one enemy countering, no forcing the AI to spread out in response, making the fight longer, and thus easier to micro. I guess you get more toughness this way, but you also make yourself an easier target for a random beak thing, that will casually stroll over to find multiple guys downed and one who has both his arms broken and unable to fight or heal anyone. You do you, i guess. Some people like flowers, others when their feet smell.
