MAB is the ultimate guardian of the shred. He has everything: Amazing skills, he teaches the next generation of shredders so naturally, and on top of that he's such a great person to be around and to listen to and to talk with. AND he is one-of-a-kind, absolutely unique character. MAB, I will never forget the time when you signed my Ibanez guitar with your name, handed it back to me and said "the shred has been transferred". You are immortal in my memories!

The first lesson I've ever found of Pebber Brown (Daily Practice - Module 1 ) is wherein he spends 100 minutes on just the tremolo exercise as demonstrate here. He recommends five minutes per open string each day. So Michael Angelo Batio has similar advise, I'm gonna do it!

Love the jazz picks! I read an article years ago by John Petrucci with the strong recommendation and now can’t using but.... You’re videos are great! Can’t say I get through them in entirety, but they are outstanding!

I have been enjoying your MAB chromacast picks for about a month now, they are so smooth when going in between strings, I don't get that scratchy feel to them, they glide over the strings. The good thing is, I most likely have a lifetime supply of them now since I ordered close to 100 of them.

I learnt so much from MAB when I first started playing guitar. I would alway watch the speed kills videos, they were so legendary! And I learnt fast it took around 3 months to get the keys to the Ferrari!

When I got back into guitar, my first instinct was to go thicker because the picks I previously used were hard to grip properly and I’d constantly have to readjust. I ended up buying a set of 3mm Dunlop’s and… they were too thick (or rather T H I C C) to use the way I wanted. I wanted to shred so I went out to my local music store where the guy behind the counter suggested that I try Jazz 3’s. I’ve loved them but I still had the same problem of holding them. Then I went out and bought a variety set which had many different variations and I not only found the texture I liked but also the right thickness that gave me not only the control I was looking for but also without all that slop a thin pick would give me. Mike, I do think that one of the most overlooked areas to playing guitar is finding the right pick and although feel is subjective, I do feel that if you want to shred, you’re gonna need to know about picks and picking. Take it from me. I’ve have hybrid thumb picks (yes, they make Jazz 3 style thumb picks) to the thick “Gypsy” picks. Just gotta play around with what’ll work for you and the type of music and string gauge you play on. To each their own but when you find the right combo, playing will be so much fun, you’ll want to play always!

I figured this out when I was a kid, glad others did too. I was obsessed with finding an efficient pick thickness AND way to hold the pick. I also bought Jazz picks in my early 20's and everyone thought I was insane ha I hated thin picks. And always kept my hand locked and used my elbow to sweep pushing my arm, not my wrist.

I would love to jam with you mike! You inspired me to start playing. Your advice about tremolo speed was spot on. If a person can tap into their tremolo picking they can almost instantly play a few shreddy lines. Also totally right about not having to pick near that fast when running 3 note per string scales. Tremolo picking can easily outrun most left hands:) It took me 32 years to learn to use tremolo picking and sweep combined vs using bicep flex (Rusty) noting wrong it,but i now sound like a nintendo game in fast forward! lol Kidding Anyways MAB Keep on slayin that axe!

I actually like the Ultex 1.40 extra sharp point because it is a little longer than the Jumbo Jazz III for that extra reach to the lower strings using the Anchor Technique

I used to always use heavy picks. Tried thin, didn't like them. I prefer mediums now. Tried metal also but I like the flex of a medium plastic pick. By the way, still waiting for that Vito Bratta tribute. :-)

Well we are all different ( to me, that's part of the beauty of guitar practicing ) i use 0.6mm tortex, and i can go at the speed i want :) i've tried it about a decade ago, Paul Gilbert has gived me his pick, a 0.6......and the rest is history. Jeff Hanneman ( i dont MAB vs JeffH at all, i love you both as much, for different reason ), he used 0.6mm For the right hand position Mickey, i totaly agree because the quicker you play, the more different you body works ; i've done tremolo picking ( every where randomly ) for warmed up for years ;
