Don't watch Gintama if you don't like the comedy. Just... don't. Don't just watch it for the serious arcs. You won't even make it to the first serious arc, unless you skip over 50 episodes. And if you skip those episodes, you won't understand a thing. It's sad, but only those who love the comedy, will know, what a gem Gintama is

I don't like the comedy that much. I just started slowly and then gintoki carried for like 50 episodes. After the benizakura arc, I was hooked like everyone else. After that, shinsegumi got more spotlight and it was hilarious(katsura also became relly funny). And then after the okita mitsuba AND the shinsegumi crisis arc I loved it. Another thing I did was just skipping filler episodes. Anyway, the style of comrdy did not suit me and it is still my favourite anime of all time. Enough said

Although they are mostly comedy, those episodes also present all of the characters and their backstories (as he says in the video) and let me tell you some of them are pretty good. Take Catherine’s backstory and her relationship with otose for example. Even though they may be mostly comedy, those episodes before benizakura also have a lot of depth as well.

I was bored and started gintama for the comedy. It was ok at first. Then it progressively got funnier. I was content. Then I fell asleep watching an episode. I woke up the next day and not thinking about it I went to the next episode. Only to find out that I had started the Benizakura arc and was just shocked at how serious it was. This instantly got me hooked. Good comedy, great action, and tear jerking stories

It took me maybe about 60 or so episodes before Gintama finally clicked with me. I'm normally the type to give a show three episodes before deciding if it's for me or not. But my friend kept pestering me about Gintama so I kept pushing through the episodes even though I thought they were mostly just ok. I'm glad I kept going though. Once it clicked, it clicked hard. It's now my all-time favorite anime.

Gintama to me is the best anime of all time. I kind of watched it on a whim during high-school and literally thought I was only going to watch like 2 episodes but ended up watching the whole thing. It took me around a year to catch-up, but only once did I think about stopping. Gintama actually helped me through very rough times in my life. I remember sitting in my bedroom crying but also smiling because I was watching one of Gintama's most funniest episodes. I already had some knowledge of accident Japanese history before watching the show, but the show itself helped me come to a better understanding of modern Japan. I had no idea what an Onsen was until I watched Gintama or what kind of place Kabukicho is. I took this knowledge with me when I had the chance to study abroad in Japan twice. Many times Japanese people asked how I knew certain things since I was a foreigner and I replied that I saw it in Gintama. Many Japanese people also love Gintama too. Yeah, I understand the show can be hard for some foreigners to get into, or that it's too long, or that it's too slow. But if I had to label anything as "the payoff is worth it" it would be this show. It's been a few years since I watched Gintama, but in the back of my mind I am always thanking Sorachi-San for creating this masterpiece. Gintama is not perfect yet the greatest anime I've ever watched, with all the comedy parts, the characters taught me so many things I can only learn in Gintama. And despite of the funny parts, when it comes to the serious arcs, the usage of creative words, the figurative language, were just so good that you will feel the overflowing emotions of characters along side with their character developments. Anddddd!!! The back stories are mind blowing, I can't even hate Utsuro because I freakin' love Shoyo-sensei. What can I say about this masterpiece of a show? It's crazy how fast it can go from toilet humor to gut wrenching tragedy to endearing and heartwarming moments. One of the episodes actually made me cry over the death of a vending machine. You'd have to watch it to truly understand, but it was from the android character's perspective on her own self worth as a machine. I still feel sad thinking about that moment.

I mean before watching it , I thought ''people say it's funny so I'll give it a try'' ,but honestly it was far more than that , it had incredible comedy ,which later on, I understood that it made each and every character likeable and connected to me .Finally there were the serious arcs that were damn amazing. Gintama is my all time favorite anime, i watched it when i was feeling really low and it helped me through so much, it was the only thing making me laugh honestly, words cannot describe how much this series helped me each and every character has a special place in my heart and their stories just hit differently. When watching it i grew attached to them and just felt like i have friends and a family. the anime is just amazing in every way and it has a lot of life lessons that I've learnt while watching it it just has a really special place in my heart

Everything about it is so amazing!!! Its not only insanely funny, but it teaches us life hard lessons you need to hear and also to know whats important. Basic lesson: "Life is hard and the world can be a shit place, but there is still so much worth loving in it" Also Gintoki is the Anime/Manga Deadpool.

I miss those first 50 episodes, man... They were the best but then, even though it got way better, I miss those happy moments. Gintama is a masterpiece, it has such an amazing story, characters, animation and comedy. Every single arc is perfect. Best Animé ever.

@@itsNivYeah The video and explanation is fine except for the clips. It's a video to spread awareness of the show. and yes the plot of Gintama heavily matters. It's just more suddle. The series however consists of foreshadowing and all the arcs are to build character. The gag episodes are the only exception that end in being a not cannon episode like the one where they go to find a house for Madao and they all die. Also how would you know the video would contain spoilers. it's a good video for the most part but it's meant for the general audience and it fails in the fact he shows the biggest spoiler in the shower.

It's kinda sad that Shinpachi is kind of a bit underrated, he balances their group. Him being the "normal" type makes him unique and pop since he is surrounded by insane people. Tho, I don't really think he is "that" normal, but a bit more sane than the others. And we can't forget about the glasses

Gintama means Silver Soul but what you missed was some Gintama characters use real japanese historical names and Gintoki's reference was Sakata Kintoki. But of course if they were to name him Kintoki the show would be named Kintama (which although means Golden Soul, it's other literal meaning is "testicles"). The pun on the show's name alone is multi-layered so it's sad that the genius in this is overlooked

Isn't Gintama meant silver soul and the joke they always refer to the testicle jokes is when someone refer to him as Kintoki hence Segway to the joke to Kintama which literally translate to golden eggs(tamago), or as the Japanese refers as testicles.. I may have to study more

I started watching gintama for its serious arcs but half way through S1 I got addicted to its comedy and when the serious arcs started hitting it was damn fu*king amazing ,gintama is the only series I've seen that can blend comedy,action and emotional scenes all together perfectly

My favourite anime. Legit. I started it because of some fanart I saw of Kagura and mr.sadist and was kinda mad at first because the anime was nothing like i expected. I kept watching out of pure spite even if at first i was just streight up angry at the anime for not being what i wanted to be( dumb reason i know). Ten episodes later or so, it won me over. I started loving each and every charachter. Didn't care much for the romance. Gintoki won me over somehow. Without even knowing it, I was eating uo episode after episode, depsite my busy schedule at the time. It made my day. The serious arcs had me at the edge of my seat at times, urging me to stay up late. The jokes hit home even if I didn't know st yhe time how dirty or dependant on culture and history some of the jokes were. Just thinking about the time i was watching it, feels me with nostalgia. Truly worth watching. Even better without the spoilers

Favourite anime easilly. Weird the reason i started watching it. It was because of the DS game Jump Ultimate Stars. I gave the series a shot and was enjoying the comedy. But the small and serious episodes kept me invested in the series and the episode that showed that it had something more to it was the underground arena fighter that was taking care of orphans. That small arc really touched me and did showed that it had a serious tone and kept me excited to keep watching even more. After Benizakura arc, i already decided that i was a fan and me apreciated the comedy episodesa even more. And the series just kept getting better so yeah, even becoming my number 1 anime.
