I'm good with my original PS5 disc version. It has almost 3 terrabytes of storage. PS5 is definitely the best console I've ever played, just wish it had more games ..

@@asadb1990 Then you should be happy that the next time your disc drive dies, you don't have to buy another console, just a new add-on. This modular thing is better for the consumer, not worse. That said, it's not that good that you should toss away your already working console and buy this instead. That has never been the case for any PS revision.

the one advantage to a removable disk drive.. is if the disk drive breaks, you'll probably be able to send just that in while having a working console!!

The PS2 had a 90nm chip that was shrunk to 40nm. The PS5 had a 7nm that was shrunk to 6nm. The PS5 Slim is essentially still using the same chip as the fat one, so of-course the sizes would be similar too.

The console makes sense for me because I like to travel and the current ps5 digital doesn’t fit very well in my backpack. It’s just a bit to bulky this almost looks like the perfect size and width to fit inside of my bag

For those of us who do not have one it is a good deal plus with these new bundles the games are free and you get more storage for the same price you currently owners paid for the removable disc is nice I will buy the disc version but not use it cuz there is no way I would buy digital then turn around and buy an 80 dollar blue ray player

0:49 If it helps you sleep at night, the term "slim" has never come from Sony's mouth in ANY of their revisions except PSP Slim and the PSP Slim&Brite. It's just a popular term, because they usually go with the lingo "this is the standard PS4 going forward" about the PS4 slim. So, don't rant about how Sony calls the PS5 slim "slim", because they don't and never have. 5:40 So if almost nobody will do it, why would this be a problem for you or anybody else? Let people waste their money even more than they already do by buying digital games only (which are always at least 50% more expensive than physical). It's being made to convince people like me or others that have been turned off by the size of the old one. Would I like it to be even smaller? Yes, of course, but now we've gone from unacceptable size to just unbearable but probably acceptable. And sadly, that's good enough for me. I'm buying one and then I'm absolutely not affected by the fact that the old console gets new faceplates. Couldn't care less.

I still own a ps4 slim and myself and my son are having so much fun playing the games on that system...but my son wants a ps5 slim for christmas. I checked amazon. ( I live in Japan by the way ) and the old ps5 disk is now obsolte. The digital old version has a few in stock, but the new slim digital and disk are now showing as pre-order for November. I dont really know what to do? ive noticed on the ps4, I have been buying many digital games because there is always many good deals and I only have 3 physical ps4 games, the last being, RDR2. Digital will always be more expensive regardless of console version price tags on launch day. The games will be PS Store only and those games are fixed in the $70-$90 region. People say things like "but the discounts!!", but no, the occasional discounts only make the games cost $50-60 which is what they do on day 1 for physical. Down the line you can easily buy discs for $30 while the PS Store still sells for $70. If you prefer digital purchases, be my guest, but with physical you at least have the choice.

It's more for me that still have an Ps4, i mean yeah i can buy the last versión but is to big for me. With this one i can get more storage, it's smaller, more checked, have details like the buttons positions, the full leds (something irrelevant). I say i like it and if i get all of this at the same price of the actual One for me it's ok but could be better. But if i had a PS5 now i wouldn't waste my money.

I prefer the digital slim because of the same reason. It’s small and doesn’t take up too much space and I live to travel so it’s small and light enough to pack up and throw in a book bag. I also do not buy disc games been years since ps3. I got the ps4 and I haven’t used the disc slot since I got it. Every game I play I download so it makes sense to just get digital.

So i'm getting mine within the next few days and BAM now I'm faced with whether I want the slim or not. I think im going to go for the original like I had planned. I dont like the matte/gloss covers, and I will just add the extra storage because they made it basically dummy proof. Also, I dont get removing the disk drive either? I've owned every playstation, it's the only system I've gamed on really. I haven't gamed in about 5 or 6 years and now I'm going to be having internet installed out where we are so I'm getting my PS5 finally. I havent been this excited for anything in a long time. They said the internet would be before winter so hopefully within the next month .

Nowdays I'm a PC player, I used to play Playstation from PS1 to PS3, and that's where my journey stopped. Never had the budget for Nintendo or Xbox, we were single console household. Now tho, I purchased the PS5 Spiderman edition console for... Couple of reasons. First of, I hate that the new SKU of PS5's require internet for their disk bays. I'm sure this can be circumvented in some ways, the Modding community on consoles has always been exceptional, but I don't want to take any risks, so I pulled the plug. Not only is the CFI-12xx version using the 6nm die, but you also get the USB-A port on the front still, which isn't the case on the newer model. I wanna get Xbox Series X as well, I know companies are trying to get away from the physical media due to the possibility to re-sell, re-use etc. We're moving towards digital era, and that to me is the point of no return. During Activision acquisition by Xbox, we got leaks on Xbox wanting to get all physical media removed from their next versions of consoles, meaning that these might be the last consoles we will see, that have capability to read physical media.

But 1) You not buying a disc console even further propels their development and argument of "nobody wants physical these days anyway so let's get rid of that", and 2) Why is the disc drive one time activation such a big deal for everybody? The PS4 needed activation for bluray movie playback, the PS3 needed it for WMA playback, the PSP needed it for WMA and ATRAC playback... This is nothing new. Not even in conservation discussions fifteen years from now with servers down will that be a problem because everybody will already have activated theirs, or hackers will have found a way as with every other console. Why is everybody making it one?

Now I'm actually deciding which to pick. I've got still my 7 year old PS4 slim(FFXV edition). Should I buy classic PS5, PS5 slim or wait for PS5 Pro? PS5 Pro is just a rumour for now. And slim is smaller(not too much) got some usb-c, bigger nevermind storage and Wifi-6. If PS5 Pro is just a rumour I will pick PS5. But I don't wanna wait a year for PS5 Pro when FF 7 rebirth will be out along with Silent Hill 2 remake. Also RE 4 remake I wanna try on PS5 even it is on PS4. Btw.. It's not only slimmer. It is a whole lot lighter in weight. I picked up the box before purchasing and it felt like a PS5 wasn't in there😂. The small legs it comes with instead of the stand the original PS5 comes with saves even more room on the entertainment center. It's also a lot cheaper than the original PS5 was in retail brand new. It was only $450 plus tax which in my area it was only $40 extra. That was for the digital version though and no scalpers buying it out made it super easy to just walk in the store on release and buy it. Also the price difference now for the slim and original PS5 is still fair. You got to think how long those original PS5 consoles have been in a warehouse😂. That also affects price.

I know the ps5 slim disc drive requires internet to play the disc drive which is a big deal to many people who don't have good wifi. But also the digital console requires internet anyways so I don't see much of a difference. Even if you have to have wifi to play the disc drive is worth getting in order to save yourself money to buy discs for cheaper price. I'd rather spend the extra 50 dollars for a 500 dollar console than save myself 50 for a 450 dollar digital console.

Do you know if this newer ps5 might use less wattage than the original? Ps5 uses about 200Watts playing a ps5 game and 100 playing a ps4 game. Less wattage might make it situationally useful to people who want to run it in their RVs or something.

Knowing that Sony made the mistake of making "regular" and "digital only" versions of the PS5, which was a huge waste of time, money, and resources, I guess this is their way of trying to make up for that mistake, because now you have the best of both worlds at your convenience; the PS5 Slim IS the ideal PS5 model they SHOULD HAVE come out with originally, but unfortunately...hindsight is 20/20.

1. This isnt a slim. Its not called a slim. But they should of put like 2real terabytes in there at least and I would also like a better design. I dont like xbox but I do like the stoic black box design of that console. What they should of did was release this ps5 only the physical version, then right next to it released the pro that had two versions physical and digital both for more money obviously but definitely with a cooler design

Sony decided to add a verification step which involves pinging a server before you are allowed to use the disc drive on the soon-to-be-released PS5 Slim. This check will occur regardless of whether you purchase the PS5 Slim with a drive already attached, or add one to a digital edition of the console in the future.

Technically it's not really pinging every time you use the drive, is it? Isn't it just activating the drive by flashing a small serial code into the motherboard/drive board, just like the PS3 drive did (although you wouldn't know unless you fiddled with the stuff)? I got my first proper job in 2006 but it took my 13 years to break out of that mentality of money spending even though i had the money to spend. By 2020 is when i realized i could afford a PS4 so i got the PRO i had been using a used xbox 360 for 13 years. Black Ops cold war comes out and i find out it is internet required so i connect the internet install the game fully and have alot of fun. After that i got playstation plus and got caught up on the last decade of gaming. But if consoles had been back then like the ps5 slim is i would be still using the original xbox. Some people don't have the money for the finer things in life and if they do they still have to spend with a very tight budget and ridiculed for doing that. Class struggle i guess that is how you build resentment in other people.

I mean I think the point is to compete with the Xbox series s. A more budget friendly console with downgraded specs. But you make good points. But playstation has always made different models of consoles sense the ps2

You’re absolutely right. What the heck does Sony think they’re playing. I’ve already got the original disk version of the PS5. But I can clearly see that the new slim version is a scam. At least the old PS5 came with a vertical stand. What do Sony actually think they’re playing at here. Spend more money on the slim version and paying extra for a vertical stand. You’re better off just going and buying the Xbox series X than the pice of shit PS5 slim and excuse my french but no one in the right mind would actually buy a slim version
