PC gaming saw an increase in popularity over the past few years. People make the switch over to PC gaming for better framerates, graphics and resolution, as well as a myriad of other benefits. But how much will you really benefit from switching to PC gaming in 2021?

pc gaming used to be hell for me, you can bully me however you want for saying this, but each platform will always have positives and negatives, pc gamers think that pc isn't included. Wrong. For the people who just want a plug and play at an affordable price? Forget about it. From buggy clients to parts saying fuck you all of a sudden, it's nightmarish, pc gamers laugh at console gamers because pc is so cheap and good but it's the exact opposite it's unfair, you spend most of your budget on parts instead of games, if you're an enthusiast, that's not a bad thing, but to have a consistent bug-free gaming experience or you not going into graphics settings each time you download a new game and stressing out framedrops, drop it. People tend to make things so black and white, it's foolish. At the end, to each their own. As long as you enjoy what you have. But you gotta be wise and not be persuaded by sweaty fans of consoles and pc worlds.

I will always be a PC gamer and I love it. I'm happy to spend money on a top tier experience that goes beyond what consoles can offer. But yeah... this is mostly on point. I wouldn't recommend PC gaming to anyone right now who cares even a little tiny bit about the value of their money. It's not so bad for people already invested in the ecosystem (e.g. I got a 3090 for $1500 but sold my old 2080 Ti for $1000 to offset the cost), but if you're getting in from scratch... yikes. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who realizes Valve basically pioneered the modern DRM era of gaming... apparently that position is really unpopular but I'm old enough that I remember PC gaming before Steam. And I remember the backlash against Steam back when it launched... it's the golden boy now but only because people are too young or ignorant to know any better.

Even Gamers Nexus themselves say that "future-proofing" is a bit of a nebulous concept and you shouldn't even be chasing it. Granted, the concept of future-proofing did apply much better in older generations when Intel really stagnated the progress of technology. But when AMD started coming out with the Ryzens, and Nvidia started coming out with shiny new tech like Raytracing and DLSS, it was inevitable that you had to be forced to keep up.

@TheCubanMissile Monopolies make products more expensive, not less. Competition is what drives market prices down. Where did you learn economics? lol The reason PC parts, specifically GPUs and CPUs, have risen drastically in price in recent years has little to nothing to do with the rise in competition from companies like AMD, but rather due to supply shortages of vital manufacturing materials like silicon, especially in the US and EU markets. Silicon Valley has been "dry" for years now, and more and more parts every year are being manufactured overseas in South East Asia, making prices in the West even higher due to trade taxes and tariffs. These facts of the market have also effected the console industry, albeit in slightly different ways. As I'm sure you noticed, PS5s have constantly been in short supply.
@jonathanoriley8260
@jonathanoriley8260 2 жыл бұрын
@TheCubanMissile The problem I see is that you are on a PC for gaming of "the highest quality", when that is *not* the true strength behind building/buying a gaming PC, nor is it the regular thought behind the common PC user. It's ultimately about the power of _utility,_ whether that be for games, work, art, etc. The strength of having a PC comes from the by far unbeatable multipurpose ability of it, and when it comes to gaming, having by far a larger catalogue of games and a superior access to the modding community. There are reasons why games like ArmA, DCS, Escape From Tarkov, and most RTS games will never be seen on console - they simply are not viable with a controller, and the hardware requirements are often too great for a console that needs to remain cost effective for the average consumer. My 5 year old PC (which "only" rocks a standard 1080) still has many more years ahead of it before I'll be compelled to upgrade it, at which case it will have lasted in its current state for as long as at least a whole console generation. When I do upgrade my PC, it will still likely be approx. the same price range, if not less, than if I were to buy a new console (especially when seeing how even console prices in the new generation are rising). And though I will have spent around the same amount of money, I will have the greater functionality and utility of a PC than I would with the relatively limited scope of a console. The only way PC gaming is more expensive ling term, even in today's market, is if you are a reckless spender who needlessly buys the brand new stuff when it comes out, being no better than a blind Apple fanboy whom buys the new iPhone every few months.

Depends on the prebuilt, you can get a lot of components you either don't need that could have been better spent for better parts that would actually improve your overall performance. Or, you're going to just get crap parts in general and still overpay. Prebuilt systems can also have a lot of stupid bloatware. I would not say prebuilt is a positive over DIY unless you actually know what you're looking for parts wise. Anyone that has a prebuilt check that they actually enabled xmp in the bios. Even if prebuilts include faster ram they tend to forget to turn on xmp to actually allow the ram to run at the advertised fastest speed.

I really appreciate that this video doesn't just say "price too high"; it actually explains the various headaches that come with PC gaming. People act like building a PC is so easy, but don't understand that most lay people aren't going to know the differences between each motherboards, RAM sticks, etc. Most people aren't going to be comfortable installing/handling most components. How are most people supposed to identify a software issue versus a hardware issue, or even diagnose faulty components? It's so much easier to just plug in a console specifically designed to last a long time, without ever needing to open it up, and just focus on playing games. You know what I never had to deal with on my Xbox? My performance being eaten up by obscure background processes I have to specifically disable, games not working well because I forgot to update my drivers, having to change incompetent default keybinds, take 20 minutes adjusting settings to fit my system everytime I get a new game, etc. They would say just buy a pre-built, but those are terrible at value to performance, most storefronts have bad service, and typically go above a grand for midrange. If you just wanna play games, and are comfortable with controller, and locked 60fps (which most people are), you're better off just getting into the new console generation. Mouse and Keyboard is superior, sure, but controllers are quite comfortable, and obviously functional for most people. I love PC gaming, I don't think I could go back to just console (though I do have a Switch as well), but people act like it's a wet dream of an experience with no caveats. There are so many advantages to PC gaming, it is by far a superior experience if you have the right setup/knowledge, but we need to be honest in that it's not a lay-friendly experience.

@@ohno5507 I did. Most good prebuilts are barely $100 more. Maybe you missed the "they dont get up charged that much" part of my significantly shorter comment. Also, while I'm here. @ohno5507
@ohno5507 2 жыл бұрын
@@hmad898 you're ignoring that my point is that prebuilts don't address all the complications with pc gaming. Just saying "get a prebuilt" doesn't magically make it completely accessible. At Dell, just over a grand and you get a system with just 8 gigs of ram, and not a whole lot of storage. With so little ram you might as well say goodbye to any form of multitasking. You would get a similar experience for a much cheaper console, which again means you don't really get bang for your buck. Origin is significantly more expensive, and again we kinda come to whether or not the prices are worth it for most people. They all have different configurations, and still requires research to make sure you're getting what you need. The different providers are a mixed bag of service, with some being terrible. A prebuilt is definitely the easiest solution, but not as attractive as console simplicity and pricing. Also, I don't literally spend 20 minutes adjusting settings, but games like to set everything to max, which tends to put me below 60 fps, since I have a 2k display. It's a dance that not everyone cares for, and is something you don't have to worry about on console. I also like to have the best balance possible of visuals and performance, so I personally take a lot of time tweaking to strike said balance. A lot of that time is also spent rebinding keys, as well. Look, dude, the point of my comment is that it's not as simple for console gamers to "just get a PC". As this video points out, it's not the perfect wet dream everyone makes it out to be. It has its drawbacks and frustrations, and prebuilts don't fully solve all that.
@hmad898
@hmad898 2 жыл бұрын
@@ohno5507 because Dell is bad. Most games dont even use 8gb of ram, but it's always nice to have more, and you should at that price. But again, dell computers are bad, worst example you could've picked besides alienware (who are owned by Dell). This is generally common knowledge. It really doesnt require much research. You dont need to know what all the parts do exactly or exactly how they effect your performance, if you're really curious just watch a benchmark video of a similar build on KZbin. Tells you everything most people actually care about, how it performs on some popular games. So set your preference in nvidia or amd to preset to lower settings, like "balanced" or "performance". Not having to worry about it is a nice way of saying you dont get any choice at all whether your game runs at 60fps or not. If you really want the best possible settings that strike a good balance for you, console doesnt offer that. Most devs try to make the console version have higher settings at the cost of framerate, because it works better for marketing, and since you want a good balance that isnt below 60fps... I fail to see how rebinding keys is a problem that isnt on console. Of course it's not. But it's also not as hard as you're trying to say either, and a lot of the points you bring up dont really work, or at least arent as bad as you're making them out to be.

In terms of AAA games, I think consoles have always offered better price-to-performance ratios, not to mention much more ease of use. As someone who moved from console to low/mid end PC, the appeal of PC gaming for me has never been about exceeding the performance of consoles. What caused me to sell my consoles and focus on PC was a fatigue with AAA gaming in general and the desire to explore more niche and experimental experiences that can’t be found on console: indie games, mods, retro games, and virtual reality. I don’t mind skirting the lower edge of acceptable performance if I can make something work that you can’t get anywhere else. Alien Isolation in VR, for example, is one of the best, most immersive horror experiences I’ve ever had, even if the mod was a little buggy and rough around the edges. I can barely run DCS in VR, but the sense of presence you get flipping switches in a 3d cockpit is like nothing else. PC has its place even if you’re on a tight budget, it really just depends on what you’re interested in, and how willing you are to troubleshoot through the technical snags.

When you get all the right parts, and have everything updated and configured how you like, and then it actually WORKS...PC gaming is truly fantastic. When you inevitably run into issues...it's a hassle and a half. So much more headache and cost than consoles, but SO much better graphics and performance when done right. I've been building PCs since 2008 and I love it, but even after all that experience, I still ran into problems with my new build this year. Everything works great now, but WOW was it a buzzkill at first. Imagine it's Christmas morning and you have a shiny new toy, then you have to build it and trouble shoot it for WEEKS before you can even get down to gaming. High risk and effort, high reward. I understand both sides on console vs PC.

I'd agree this is a bad time to join PC gaming, but getting a new console for okay price is difficult (at least where I live) Even if PC cost a bit it has a great value to me. First I have the ability to play both old and new games. Right now Xbox is the only one putting effort into backwards comp. Secondly I use my computer for a lot things (3D Art, Game Dev etc). I also play many games that I prefer with keyboard. If you're someone like me PC gaming makes sense. But If you don't use PC in the same manner then console might give you more value. Nintendo Switch would also make more sense for those who are on the go a lot and only have time for inbetween sessions

Was thinking of building my first PC but ended up going with the Xbox SX. After thinking about it and doing a lot of window shopping, the new generation of consoles is just really good for your money. I was having a hard time finding a build i was satisfied with the price that also could run as well as the new consoles. Also I grew up a console gamer so just being familiar with it and the fact that i only wanted a PC for its power over consoles I ended up with a Series X. Very happy with my Series X and maybe i will hop into the PC community down the road.

Since I built my second pc with parts I bought before the ‘coof’ hit, I’ve noticed a kind of spoiling effect when I play my others consoles. I’ve gotten complacent with high frame rates, resolutions, and ‘better’ graphics. Killing my enjoyment for my other consoles I own. Sometimes I just wanna lean on the couch with a controller, plus not having to clean a console out every three months because of pet hair and dust is great, a pc can be high maintenance in some scenarios.

On the one hand, for new AAA games you're absolutely right, and I keep a switch around just for that (the new kirby game looks really good). On the other hand, on a decent PC there are plenty of old and or indie games that are just not on console. I can't play half-life 2, halo 2, Metroid prime 2, Koumajou Densetsu 2, Touhou Fantastic Danmaku Festival 2, civilization 2, Star Wars: Dark forces 3: Jedi knight 2, and R-Type final 2 on the same device unless it's a PC. I could run most of those on a laptop I got for free as school surplus (r-type final 2 would probably make it explode, gamecube emulation is inefficient so prime 2 would run very slowly, and I had mouse issues with half-life 2), and all of them on my current PC.

I would like to add Your PC can meet the requirrments by ease and you still get unplayable FPS drops. This happens to me all the time. Games that run perfect most of the time suddenly begin lagging for absolutely no reason. I even remember being one game away from platinum rank and my PC froze for literally no reason, even though it almost never did that before and after. And yes, I do use things like CCleaner and Smart Defrag. I sustain my PC properly. In general, it is frustating how much you have to do ONTOP of spending the (high amount of) money to meet the requirements. Whereas with a console game you are 100% guaranteed to known that it runs. I just get the feeling that devs actually optimize the console version whereas you have to optimize your hardware for the PC version. Obviously, they also optimize the PC version, but when you do pretty much everything right and still can't see that then there is a problem. And it cannot be blamed on just consumers.

In Late 2018 I got into PC gaming, I was sick of my PS4. And there could be some pretty great experiences with that, great deals on games, emulation, ect. High/Ultra settings and 60+ FPS. But sometimes the dumbest shit happens like you said... I remember one time the audio just stopped working in my PC. Restarting didn't help, and I had to figure out how to reinstall my audio drivers and after 2 or 3 attempts of that finally fixed my audio. I've mostly been back and forth between PS5 and Series X, some occasional emulation on PC. The price/performance... the state of the market now, the optimization + Nvidia and AMD just ignoring the issues gamers care about(VRAM lol). Took me mostly back to console pretty quickly. I was going to get a PS5 regardless, but the Series X was pretty much a concession for me of "Fuck this, I don't think it's worth it to upgrade my PC"

Personally I buy a mid range gaming laptop for 600-800 every 8 years and then a current gen console once the price is down to 300. So I basically usually have something I can play new releases on IF I'm interested. I don't mind playing old games or playing "last gen" ports that basically look like its being run on the medium settings at 30-60 fps. That being said: I'm interested in making a gaming channel someday for people like me: budget gamers. I think it's entirely possible just using free software, a capture card and a 90 dollar mic. Anyways, any tips?
@ShreddedNerd
@ShreddedNerd 2 жыл бұрын
Make sure you invest in a good mic as early as you can. $90 might get you something pretty decent, but remember that a good mic is a one time investment and becomes pretty cheap in the long term. Make videos on the most up to date topics you can. Try to be the best within a certain niche. Try to get as many videos (of a consistent quality) out as you can before you start getting leverage on the platform as people will go back and watch your old videos if one video becomes popular. You need to be persistent. If you're using a software like OBS to record, make sure there are no visual artifacts in your recordings. Try doing a few test video renders in your chosen video editor to make sure you get this right. For example, make sure you disable resample. Make sure to do similar quality tests for your audio, especially the levels. It's common to make the mistake of making your background music too loud. Make sure you have no background noise.

Okay gonna put my hot take out there. 1050ti Gameing laptop! It can run most games and new games at midgraphics. The one I have is the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop from 2018, and it only cost me $550 refurbished on ebay. I've used it for 2 years now and I don't think I can ever go back to Console gaming. Online subscriptions are a real money sink. I just played the Halo Infinte technical flight on this Laptop and It ran perfectly on medium graphics! As long as you have a modern CPU to complement (the one in this computer is the i5-8300H) games are surprisingly well optimized these days and there are always tweaks you can do yourself to get a playable experience. I personally am all about affordability, as long as I can play the game and it not be a laggy mess, I have fun. Don't get me wrong! I loved every second I spent on the PS4, but $50 a year really adds up fast. Now all I have to worry about is buying the games I want to play! And as a gamer that's what really matters. Okay so thats my advice, just do your research and always be on the look out for a good deal or sale!

Without writing quite literally an essay, I have both PC and a Series S. My PC I built for $850 pre-pandemic. 3600X and RTX 2070 super. Blows my series S out of the water. That's to be expected for nearly double the price. If you think I spent $850 on my PC just to game, however, you're an absolute lunatic. For the ones in the back: If all I wanted to do in my free time is play games and run DVDs, I would have gotten a console. Full Stop! If you want to know why I bought a computer, however, I can only do so by describing where I am writing this comment from. On my main monitor, I am currently playing assassin's creed. On my second monitor I am either streaming or watching a video, and accessing social media, at the same time as I am playing my games. My computer is taking all this like a fucking champ. THIS is why I have a computer. This isn't even counting the massive amount of professional tasks I can be doing at my fingertips, again off one one singular device. My computer is more than an entertainment device, it is a tool. A tool that I can use however I want, and change what I am doing before I even finish saying what I am doing. However, not everyone wants this. 70-90% of people want a device that is guaranteed to run their favorite games at decent graphical fidelity and performance metrics, because they work their ass off for 40 hours a week and deserve to take leisure. I would know, I have serviced these people professionally. If you are in that ~70%, you should just get a console. Especially with crossplay being an industry standard, just get a console. Even if crossplay wasn't a thing, just get a console. If you're trying to talk yourself into a PC, that is a different ballpark entirely. There is absolutely no reason to waste your money on flashy features you'll never use anyways... Anyways, thanks for the well thought out video my man. I hope the times come again where Price-to-Performance on one device nearly matches the other like it did in 2019-2020.

pc gaming, specially modern pc gaming, feels like those gacha games that as soon as a new character or weapon is released, everyone goes mad over it, then you have everyone at the lobby flashing their new character that probably had a cost of a hundred dollars or even thousands just to obtain it and fully upgrade it, then after a few months another more op character is released and the previous character becomes useless, then you grind and grind again or just throw a lot of money to obtain it and be able to play the new content with it, meanwhile there is probably a dude with a 5 year old character that is considered useless, enjoying the game as he likes, doing whatever he wants and not rushing for the end game, and having fun in the process when i see such hardware with a cost of a thousand bucks, holy shit, that's 3 months of hardwork where i live, just for a fucking single component, i was thinking on getting better hardware for games, but seeing how pointless it is, considering that modern games nowadays are incomplete and heavily depend of DLCs to be considered finished, in that case i would just go back and play some single player from 2013 or just play league at this point, or maybe get into some private server of an older game, the three things i always look for in a game always are inmersion, sense of adventure and environment design, it doesn't need to be flashy, extremely reflective and exaggerated, after all i play a game to avoid real life for some hours, not to get into it again.

I was lucky enough to get my 3080 from Best Buy at MSRP, and build a full high end PC, but i agree right now unless you get it from Best Buy founders edition, and grab it at msrp, usually best from local stores. The only thing holding PC back from being the absolute ultimate platform is the scalping, though i dont see it lasting for much longer. PC gives you everything right now, the biggest gaming library with all Xbox games, getting many Playstation games, and Nintendo games through emulation. To get that kind of experience you would have to buy all 3 consoles which can go well over $1000, and thats not counting the online fees in order to play that, plus more memory cards. I don't agre with anything else but price tho being the downside. Optimization for games on PC is better than ever, and 99% of the time the PC runs FAR better than the consoles port, with things like DLSS helping old cards out performing better than the next gen cards helps with price/performance. More mod support than anything consoles have. Way more emulation, way more indie support, way more controller support, customization, and more. To miss out on PC now is missing out on the ultimate gaming experience. Its just sad that scalping is keeping people from experiencing it. The 30 series kicks the consoles ass in power too, with the 3060 beating the consoles in RT as well. I hope prices come down soon, cause the argument for PC is better than ever. "Ease of use" comes with limitations, and less choice. Its a double edged sword, and honestly PC gaming is very easy to use.. Its nowhere near as complicated as it used to be. Also console warriors do the same "defending platform". COnsoles are cheaper, but again it comes with a price of being a closed platform, less power, less games, less choice. Also PC parts last MUCH longer than they did early 2010s. I honestly don't find your arguments good for consoles at all. The scalping absolutely is a problem, but thats it. PC gaming is more inclusive than consoles because it allowd people from all kinds od budgets to get into, and customize their experience. Unlike consoles, which everyone only gets one thing, and cant really do much to customize their own platform. PC gaming is in a golden age now, even with scalping. lol

GPU manufacturers dropping support for older cards isn't really that disastrous, it just means that you wont get proper driver optimization for newer games from now on, the GPU doesnt just suddenly stop working. A far bigger issue is games only being able to run on CPUs with certain modern instruction sets like AVX like Death Stranding and HZD (though they did eventually revert this, and there are also community fixes that allow it to run on older tech), and unfortunately more and more games are going down this route.

I honestly have had multiple friends who said they wanted to get into PC gaming. As much as it hurt, I told them that in the current market, it is really not worth it cause unless you wanna really dig for sales and do long waits and such, its just not worth it. When even a crappy pc budget build is now around a grand cause of how garbage the market is, I can't suggest it to my friends unless they really want to spend stupid amounts of money on a rig that would be worth nowhere near that much a couple years ago.

My PC was a budget (£1k), it had issues and it ended up costing me more to fix. the Xbox One X i bought for Halo wars 2 and other games (£450~) (and that was bought before i had a PC) cast half that price, hell the Xbox Series X is around £570. this computer has spent far more hours on youtube than gaming, Steam's "abundance" of games are half arsed; broken and and unfinshed indies and "early access" games that pretty much 50/50 on where they go. I can understand some good indies are there, but i have other stuff to do in life, so i cant exactly go digging for them. I could go on tangent on why the PC community's quest for every gamer to abandon console entirely would see the actual destruction of the gaming industry in a small amount of time, but my sentence pretty much shortens the economics of it.

I enjoy PC gaming because I can mod the game files and use M&K. That's about it. Fortunately some console games does have native M&K support. Hopefully it becomes wide spread in the future. Maybe I'll get the next Xbox once my RTX 3070 becomes obsolete.

the new Xbox can run the newest games in 4k, is specifically optimized for gaming, is way cheaper than if I were to build a PC with the same specs. And the X-Box user interface is amazing, easy to navigate. I never have t worry about windows updates, driver issues, or random errors. Everything just works.

This video is extra hilarious almost 2 years later where every new PC digital foundry review is Alex wishing he was dead because the state of PC ports. But I mainly wanted to post because even though it was in your meme picture you left out the biggest lie about PC gaming and that is the games are cheaper. Digital storefronts are the same across all consoles now, the idea of "Gaben's magical steam sale" is just the norm on every device. Games cost the same money regardless of platform. You can usually save a bit more if you use something like GMG but the price difference is not that huge, nor is it every game. More importantly though consoles still have access to physical games, and in a large market like North America the short term prices are just so much cheaper than digital games (hence why all the platform holders are so desperate to get rid of physical media.) All you gotta do is look at walmart black friday prices and compare the price to digital versions. Digital loses out by huge amounts. And this is ignoring second hand sales, I've paid $1 for every single CoD because it's the biggest series on the planet and you can't go 2 yard sales without tripping over one of the games. Not to mention ALL big box chain stores do quarterly clearances. Walmart just did their spring one, I picked up The Quarry for $7. How much is it on GMG right now? Oh $20 USD. What a fucking deal, of course I'd pay more than double for the game. The only way games are cheaper on PC is if you literally pirate, but that it is just a scumbag argument. If everyone was pirating there wouldn't be a PC market at all.

I agree wholeheartedly with what you said about mobas just being an RTS with no soul. I would say it's even true somewhat with the more "modern" rts (modern as in 10 years ago, since that seems to be the last time a new RTS came out) because they make everything super hand-holdy, fast, and streamlined. It's like at the halfway point between an RTS and a moba, and I don't like that.

Well considering MOBAs have their roots in rts that comparison isn't unwarranted. I personally prefer MOBAs to RTS games but that's just because I feel a little overwhelmed with the macro and micro needed for most rts games.

the utility argument is a 50/50 and usually relies on the platforms. especially for video editing sony gave good options for the ps4 and from what i heard they added unto it with the ps5. you could record up to an hour of footage and edit it in software that was easily available right out of the gate. really, the content creation side is where i view xbox as extremely weak. since they probably just want you to get a windows pc to do that stuff. now of course modeling and other stuff is gonna be a pc only thing for probably ever, but the more or less basic elements could be there on console if they'd care to implement them. Most people have a phone they can use for most important functionalities (unless their work requires a pc obviously) and playstation showed me that video editing software doesn't have to be a pc only thing. it's the one thing i kinda miss since switching to xbox, because while low quality i still enjoyed occasionally making a poorly edited video just for shits and giggles. It's really just a disinterest in implementation of such software that holds consoles back. Beyond that, i have a few minor gripes with modern console gaming. pc x console cross play becomes more common, however mouse and keyboard support for console still often gets withheld even when there's no reason to (like with apex legends, overwatch 2 or battlefield 2042). there's some really cool games we'll probably never be able to play because the devs may be too small and thus may only publish independently on steam. stuff like ready or not or teardown comes to mind to me. especially the former interesting me due to my love for rainbow six and general tactical swat shooters. And stick drift is an obvious one. the sad nature of potentiometers for a precise input. which can make the lack of mnk support even more frustrating. because you know 2042 makes me flick like a mad man. beyond that most issues come down to industry standards and the sad state of big gaming. poor optimization across the board, rushed games and so on. Nothing i could blame current consoles for because frankly they probably are better than the current average gaming pc (given that the Nvidia 10 series is still the majority hardware at least)

It's an addiction really, when you are selling old parts and buying new ones, piecing out old computers for parts or to make a cheap Pc to sell, so you can upgrade your own Pc with the money. I started with a crap pre-built with an A8-7600 and a R5 360. Got a 1050ti then bought a office desktop with an i5-2400 and sold the old Pc. Got a new office Pc with an I7-3770, put a 1060 6gb in it and that held up until a few years ago. Then I went and bought a Nitro with an I5-10400f and a gtx 1650. Put the 1650 with the I7-3770. Swapped the power supply over. Sold that and bought a used Rtx 2060 super for 300 dollars US. I'm stoked and after my upgrade it only cost me about 400 dollars out of pocket. But that's because it's an investment that you keep putting money into, then trade up, put some more pocket cash in to the project. All in all I've spent probably 3000 dollars on my Pc but I've sold about 2000 dollars worth of Pcs and parts along the way

A year or less before the pandemic I really wanted to get a decent gaming PC as I started to really feel the age of the Xbox one and its potatoe-ness I had everything planned out; I planned to get an RTX 2060 and a ryzen 5 2600 with their appropriate respective motherboard, RAM and PSU. But then the pandemic hit and everything became way more expensive -- I proceeded to look at the Xbox series X after dismissing it and saw that it was a much better deal. I also laughed at that frame of the ''actually budget'' gaming PC as it's literally what I have currently -- an old optiplex with a 750 shoved in there ; I only ever use it to play ancient games like left 4 dead and etc. I just don't see it worth my money getting a high end PC currently solely for the purpose of playing some games at a higher fidelity, preset or performance as I feel as though I should have some more use for it if i'm spending bloody upwards to £1000-2000 on it; all I currently use my PC for is word, excel and pretty much nothing else. Since I'm doing an Engineering degree maybe I'll need a high end PC purely for convenience due to the inevitable increase in the use of CAD and etc There's also the issue of convincing my friends to switch to PC -- and if this is not successful what's the point of having a super high end top of the line gaming machine with no-one to play with? (albeit this is less of an issue now due to cross-play but even that has it's issues)

Also, while developers dont optimize games for every component like every GPU out there, GPU manufacturers actually do it for them, so this part of the video is a bit misleading. This is why you have new GPU drivers after every major game release, specifically optimizing those GPUs to run those games better. Is it a hassle to update over and over? Yes, but not any more than updating your console every now and again. Also also, with the last generation of consoles, developers did not really continue to optimize their games until the end of the generation...why would they, when Microsoft and Sony released "refreshes" for those consoles barely 3 to 4 years later and stopped producing the OG PS4 and Xbox One altogether, hence why many modern games run abysmally on those base 2014 consoles (and not, it isn't just Cyberpunk). Gone are the days when a console would last you 8+ years.

For me pc is about freedom with emulation I can play persona 3,4, and 5 I can play ace combat 5 and zero and I can play the current gen console games in a few months I can play the newest halo and the newest uncharted game on the same system and I’m able to watch anime do work and make art all of which I can do on the same system for about the price of both of the new consoles for me it is right to be in pc but if you want an easy system to just game where you don’t have to install something to keep your games working or to constantly have to switch processors in nvidia because the game defaulted to your crappy processor in summary unless you do digital work or actively modding just buy the consoles it’s more consumer friendly

I know all about the need for competitors in this market, which is why I always bought SiS or VooDoo cards before, but the majority of PC Users back in those days kept buying NVidia, so now I'm also stuck in this predicament, when I knew damn well as a kid it would have been a problem, thanks guys around my age and older, you really did it, along with the steam thing and others, a real f*cking good job indeed. EDIT: Side note since 3D modeling was mentioned, Gaming PC is still low to mid tier for that thing, had to mount second GPU to render in acceptable times, plus specialized 3D modeling setups can go up to 20k easily, since it's "niche" market, again creating scarcity where it doesn't exist (to be clear, I'm not talking about GPU scarcity, but buyers' or rather, scarcity of demand, that's bullsh*t since more and more jobs require such setups).

I take issue with the “games will look better on console over time as the devs get use to it” statement. Yes, it holds true for every generation up to gen 7, but it’s just not true of gen 8. This is almost precisely because devs didn’t have to learn much in terms of hardware or architecture. Games at the start of the gen really don’t look much worse than games at the end, and this makes sense because gen 8 is where Sony and Microsoft both went with industry standard approaches.

The mod topic is one I take issue with in your video, several games actually have mods that improve performance, lots of people have managed to fix Bethesda's god-awful engine for them and allow others to play as a result. Likewise shader mods aren't all that exist, games that have steam workshop support especially are genuinely better off than their console counterparts as a result, I doubt L4D still gets played half as much on consoles without mods.
