And they do indeed explode enough to severely maim a person and can easily be induced to do so. Whether they are removable or not.

Microwave uses microwaves that cause particles to get excited and heat up. As excited particles bump into each other and cause energy to be released. And energy = heat. :)

Here's the official word: "When a microwave runs without anything inside, or if an item contains no water molecules, the microwaves in the machine will be redirected into the magnetron.
