Plastic glue protip! Most plastic glues (all the ones you showed in this video) are a solution of plastic (polystyrene) in butyl acetate, sometimes with some other add-ons. Which means you can revive a "dried" plastic glue - usually becoming half a bottle of transparent plastic - just by adding butyl acetate. And that "sprue goo" is therefore the same solution but with more polystyrene in less solvent. You can also make your own plastic glue by simply dissolvin sprue leftovers (transparent polystyrene for that professional transparent look) in butyl acetate. Which costs close to nothing, 1 Liter for 10 Euros in my local chemistry store.

With the nail files I would also add the nail buffing blocks. You can smooth things out to a mirror finish if you want with those. They might not be the best shape to get into places, but they do finish off a model very well. They also work extremely well for stropping knife blades on to a proper razor edge.

a proper chair really can't be understated, especially if you also work form home. you end up sitting in the same chair for work and then hobby time and it's wild how much damage it can do to you. I bought a refurbished ergonomic office chair from a company that recycles office equipment from offices that close down. Made a huuuuuuuge difference.

After 4 years of hobbying under two ordinary desk lamps, I went and bought an LED daylight lamp just a few days ago, and OH. MY. GOD. It is the biggest quality of life upgrade you can make in this hobby, hands down. It made such a difference in my painting that I think these lamps should be discussed as a must-have, and not just a strong recomendation. All you noobs out there, get yourselves one of these lamps asap, before you get an airbrush!

I bought an LED shop light from the local hardware store. It's insanely bright and as pure white light as you can get. Probably overkill, but it's nice having a light that hangs from the ceiling and not right in front of my face. Also, it was fairly cheap. It was life changing.

I have a hand pump ca glue activator but what I usually end up doing is either using the straw to dab where I want to activator to go, or a makeup sponge to dab tiny amounts of it. The spray is typically not good for our use
@maqywhaq
@maqywhaq 2 жыл бұрын
@@MightyMax2756 I've experience both, and I find the pump type actually makes the glue more brittle than the spray. It's good for plastics though, as it lack the solvents in the spray version and therefore doesn't react as much with plastics. On the other hand, you really shouldn't be gluing on painted surfaces when possible, and when you absolutely need to, this is where having the wider toolbox with different tools that achieve the same result with different methods work nicely to allow one to tailor their approach.

You can use your spit as a super glue activator. Super glue was originally designed to bond with proteins in your skin to close superficial wounds quickly (on the battlefield) and there is enough of that protein in your spit to activate the glue.

Great video providing a lot of useful info, one thing to note however concerning the lighting part: Accurate color rendering is not primarily dependent on light temperature (2700-6500K) but on the Color Rendering Index of the light source known as CRI ranging from 0 to 100 Anything above 90 (100 being the sun itself) is considered adequate for artistic purposes, either painting or displaying works of art Hope that helps...

@CreamAle

Not apparently. It's confirmed and an old technique. It's just solvents dissolving the plastic and the same concept as how the glue works anyways. Doesn't glue as much as weld/fuse the pieces together. For something neat, search for spruegoo manta.
@baz3087
@baz3087 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Acetone can dissolve the sprue but it isn't very good, it gives a very gloopy/thick solution, which you might like or not. Using other solvents can give a thinner sprue glue. Tamiya Extra Thin contains 50/50 Acetone and Butyl Acetone and Citadel and Revel plastic glues contain 100% butyl acetone. The butyl acetone is a much better solvent for the sprue than acetone. Goobertown Hobbies has a great video on plastic cements and how they work checmically. He dissolved some sprue in different solvents, including acetone, and you can see the difference.
