Really appreciate several things about your channel. The style of aquarium (very-low-maintenance), the no-music and no-annoyance editing style, the vast knowledge you have, and very little of the ideological beliefs I tend to hear in this space. You'd be forgiven for protesting but you are far better than other "natural aquarium" channels and it's a privilege to hear your descriptions of things.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. :) They really mean a lot to me. And the timing is actually more perfect than you could imagine. I’ve recently wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to do more flashy graphics, editing etc. (hence this weeks very short video) It seems I’m really cut out for all that stuff. Subsequently I was getting really frustrated with myself. But reading your comments has made me realise that this channel isn’t built on all of that stuff. And I can’t thank you enough for this realisation. You’ve taken a real weight off my mind :) So now I think I can go back to just making my little simple videos about the things I’m passionate about. Namely my tanks, experiences and thoughts, no fancy stuff :) Have a great day!

I love "unassuming" fish, where you really have to sit down and watch to appreciate their beauty. Same with Flame tetras (Hyph. flameus) and Lemon tetras (Hyph. pulchripinnis) really.

@@aquaticsbynature Doesn't water become more acidic from all the processes of rotting and decomposition? Why is your water highly alkaline after years and years of no water changes?
@aquaticsbynature
@aquaticsbynature 11 ай бұрын
As a tank ages it often develops it’s own buffering system from things like all the old snail shell etc that accumulate. But I do occasionally top up with alkaline tap water too, not just rain water. However planted tanks are much more resistant to becoming acidic because the plants are so good at removing Co2. But if it’s an issue you can simply add a bit of dolomite gravel to the filter and that will take care of it for you. All very simple :)

a great idea i had forgotten about. never owned any, but that colorful stripe would look good with my coppery het rasboras, which also seem overlooked due to commonality. these rasboras also do mock fighting, which i thought was mating behavior, but now i think they are just playing also. thanks for spotlighting the glowlights.

Thanks for your comments. I think most of us have been guilty of fish snobbery at times. But very often if you really sit back and think about it, common fish are common for a good reason. Love harlequins by the way. Great for mixing with things like glow-lights because they tend to sit higher in the water.

@@aquaticsbynature i went to a fish store 3 days ago and they had 6 in stock so i took them home, i was also able to get 6 white clouds , 6 zebra danios, and 6 more harlequins. they even had 1 lone galaxy rasbora i got. except the harlequins, this is my first time with these fish, yes they are small, but each exquisitely beautiful in their own way. the white clouds are just fantastic. they all seem perfect in my 20 long guppy tank. i have 9 very old and large female gups in the tank so the new fish really add interest for me.

I have never tried glowlights, but I'd certainly love to after watching your video! I know they should get along well with my guppies and Corydoras, but will they be okay with rosy barbs? I don't keep tetras due to hard water anymore. If you get a chance to keep a pair of apistogramma fish do it. I wish I tried them years ago.

That’s a pity. My water is pretty hard, but touch wood tetras do fine in it, and some like the lemons and emperors will even breed occasionally. Love Apistogramma! I used to breed them semi-professionally way back in the 1980s :)
