I hate that this is still allowed. Shame on ITV, shame on Ant & Dec and shame on the 'contestants' who take part in such cruelty. I have complained directly to ITV, signed petitions, even had a letter printed in Radio Times complaining about the cruelty in this show. What more do we need to do to get this disgusting show to change its ways? Surely they have the wit to design challenges that don't involve animals? Or maybe they don't... 😢

I've never watched because: I detest Ant & Dec; I'm totally uninterested in celebrities; and to underpin those objections the torture of animals of any species is totally abhorrent. I've always protested and will continue to do the same for as long as I live! Great rant Rob!

I could never understand how this disgusting show was ever allowed to air T V. I have never watched it, the trailers were enough to horrify me, no living creature should be abused like this, could never understand why anyone would watch this. Everyone involved shoukd be charged with animal abuse.

I totally agree. They could have the show without abusing animals. If entertainment relies on harming animals it is not acceptable at any level. I live in Australia and they need to leave our animals alone.

Rob: Here in the U.S., a parallel appalling show is known as Fear Factor. Equally shameful. There is no justification for such exploitation of live animals for any tv show. Anywhere on the planet. Thank you for calling out this brazen cheap thrill entertainment in the UK. Your argument is, however, a global one. All such shows should be roundly denounced - wherever they are aired. Thank you.

I have never watched this hideous programme which glorifies the abuse of animals and shows a complete lack of empathy towards them - shame on everyone that takes part in this disgusting spectacle for so called human entertainment - and more shame on those who watch as if non-one watched it wouldn’t get made. I stupidly thought we had moved beyond this in the 21st century seems we haven’t 😢

I've been disgusted with this show since its first broadcast. SHAME on ITV! It's not, in my heartfelt opinion, "entertainment". It's a waste of time too & they promote it on This Morning talking about it as if everyone loves it! These animals CANNOT CONSENT & they don't even get paid. Ban it - take it to Parliament if necessary. Doesn't the show breach Australian & our uk Animal Cruelty statutes?!

Its always been so horrible to see this air year after year 💔 As a snake owner especially, it is so horrifying to see the contestants get scared by a snake and they throw it away like it’s nothing 😢 I don’t necessarily agree about the rat though... Hear me out: If it was just a wild rat, that they hunted, skinned, cooked and ate, because they were hungry, that’s actually quite impressive, fair play to them, its part of the circle of life. However, if it was just given to them by the shows production team from their arsenal of abused animals so the celebrity chef could cook it for entertainment, then that is horrible. I hate the thought of unnecessary killing, but if its for survival, I then in some ways prefer some hunting (not the kind with horses and foxes though ffs) to farming, so long as its done without stressing the animal too much and the animal has lived a full, happy wild life. Getting a quick arrow through the brain seems much kinder in my opinion than having an animal confined and living unhappily and unnaturally only to be killed prematurely by its so called caretakers... But in this day and age, we all know none of this is actually necessary 😡

Maybe impossible to organise but the only way any changes might work is to hit the advertisers. Sadly means it needs watching but those companies who are paying to have their products etc shown during the broadcast should be first in line to hit. If their phone lines and websites are flooded with complaints which ultimately affects their business and profits, they will feel pressure to act regarding animal cruelty. Unlikely to be feasible but hitting those who pay to keep this awful show going, is the only way any pressure might really count. Too many have tried in the past and failed but as with most things, money talks.

I love the number of people who condemn the show and openly admit they never have and never will watch the show !! Also those who have a go at Ant and Dec / note the show is one of the highest ratings in the year so ITV hardly likely to drop it as they can charge advertisers prime money and Ant and Dec have been voted. The Top Entertainers for the last .21 years so must be doing something right rather than just standing there grinning.

But if you’ve seen reports and concerns being raised about animal cruelty in the show why would you then bother ever watching it if you care about animals? In the same way you don’t need to have taken part in a bird shoot to know you don’t want to have a go at it yourself.
