1. The wrong focus: just receiving but not using by speaking 2. Mistake obsession, we can't limit to mistakes but allow us to get it improved. 3. Grammar drama, study and practice it but try to use it in all around you as much as possible. 4. No Virtous Circle of Fluency, you need to take the next step and connect all you have learned with your daily activities. Thank you very much, a new subscriber just came.

Ever since I was in middle school I had this dream that one day I'll be able to speak English fluently, I understand almost all of it but I don't have the confidence to speak the language and I'm afraid people will judge me every time I make mistakes. By watching videos like this I gained motivation and inspiration to keep going. One day it'll not be only a dream but a reality.

I am exactly in this situation. I actually understand everything, read English books or watch movies or series in ov. But as soon as I speak it, it's over. Unfortunately, I have to speak in English every day with customers or my manager and that is incredibly difficult for me. Sometimes it also depends on the form of the day whether it goes well or not. I absolutely lack the feeling for English.
@Noktackey1 Жыл бұрын
I was in that position, understand English but couldn't speak. But I can speak now, let's say in upper intermediate level, not fluent tho. I found that the reason why I couldn't speak, was the less opportunities to speak it. Once I had more frequently chance to speak, I started to speak better. In addition, I had to read a LOT to catch how English works in general. Don't expect to be the best English speaker out of nowhere without speaking, listening, reading and writing a lot.
@tasiaallen969 Жыл бұрын
I'll rewrite your paragraph just to help clean it up a little. Hopefully this helps. I was in that position. I understood English but couldn't speak it. However, now I can speak at, let's say, an intermediate level. I'm not fluent though. I believe that the reason why I couldn't speak it very well was that I hadn't had many opportunities to practice with native speakers. Once I began to have more frequent opportunities to speak with native speakers, I began to improve. In addition, I had to read A LOT to understand how English works / functions in general. - The last sentence is perfect.

I use the logical way to explain: We use different parts in our brain for speaking (the part who is used to find words) und listening (the part who is used to interpret words). And than I think, okay, I would like to be able to explain myself to other people, so I have to train my brain.😀😀 Its easier to undestand a language in the listening way, than to speak.

E entendento com mais fluencia, ficará mais fácil de entender os Nativos depois. Pior é assistir e não entender muitas coisas, desmotiva kkkk

I love this. My cousin is from USA, I'm from Germany. My grammar is horrible and I'm always ashamed about it. And let's not talk about the diverent times simple past, past tense and so on 😂 Once he said to me "Languages are for communication! And as long we are able top communicate you're english ist good enough. You don't have to be ashamed." And he was right! Even my english teacher once said to me that i should not worry about my grammar and my english skills. My english ist not perfekt but it's good enough. I don't have to work as an english teacher or for an english or American newspaper. So why do I need english? Mainly for vacation, to order a Drink or a meal, to ask for the way, to hold conversations Witz others (who are often no Natural speakers as well) or to watch a movie or read a book. So maybe my english ist not good enough for a good mark as 1 or 2 (in Germany 1 and 2 are good 😅) but it is definitiv good enough for live because I can communicate with it!

What made me overcome my inhibitions was when one of my past English teachers asked me how grammatically perfect I speak my own native language German. The moment I honestly had to admit that I don't even speak my own native language absolutely perfect my ambition to speak English totally perfect disappeared and I felt a lot less blocked. Think about that for a minute. Language is not maths. Languages are not about being 100% right all of the time. It's about being able to communicate with other people. That's all.

The comprehensible input it's very good but not enough, it's necessary to practice, otherwise we can't improve our language. A good balance can be: Repeating, input comprehensible, some grammar and finally output, this last it's the most important because is the only one that let us measure our skills.
