Tom, you don't sing that badly. You have pitch sustaining problems, but that could be worked out with a couple lessons on the basics (maybe just KZbin ones on breathing and tension). You can at least hear pitch and match it, and you know how to make the tone sound good. You're much farther ahead than anyone I would consider bad, let alone torturous. --A vocal music major.

Matt's describing either shyness or embarrassment. As a singer and a professional voice teacher, Tom, you're FINE. If you feel a little shaky that's totally fair but you've got a strong core to your sound and a great timbre. If you took a couple of lessons or just practiced on your own for a bit (it's a muscle and needs to be worked out!) then you'd be lovely! I'm sure any choir or community theatre group would be thrilled to have you.

How do you learn musical instruments (or singing) in your countries? In Switzerland where I am from, children usually take one-to-one-lessons, which are paid one half each (about 1500 swiss francs per year, which pretty much equals 1500 US-dollars) by the public and by the pupils (or their parents).

Just want to point out that whilst the Recorder isn’t often used in orchestras, it is indeed considered to be a classical instrument and plenty of solo pieces have been written for the recorder. It’s by far the most underrated and bastardized instrument there is due to generations of students having to fool around with it before they can barely walk. Its timbre can be gorgeous, and more than the classical compositions, it was THE flute of the western european middle-ages, so if you like anything medieveal-y or folksy, then recorder is also for you! Just had to point that out, as a bit of a recorder lover :) Great vid as always though guys¡
