I worked as a BC engineer from about 1968 through 1978, I worked five years in radio followed by five years in television. I had moved from WI to AL in 1978 when I found a job as an engineer at a TV station in Huntsville AL. From there I went to work at a TV production switcher company. From there, I got a job in aerospace because I had a few courses in optics. I worked on a couple of projects that would make Matt jealous. In particular, I worked on the development of ISS.

The thing is that people do parachute from jet planes. Not jet fighters like what you're probably thinking. But the US Military has used the C-17 Globemaster III, which is a jet propelled cargo lifter, as a platform for deploying troops. I believe there's also Japan's C-2 and Brazil's KC-390 that's on the open market for militaries that aren't communist related nations. By that, I mean ones who are getting the Russian AN-178 or Ilyushin II-76 or Chinese Y-20. Beyond that, I don't think there are any jet propelled aircraft that are used for any level of parachuting; private, commercial, or military. There are plenty of jet powered aircraft as there are plenty of helicopters that are turboshaft powered instead of jet propelled, but you don't really parachute from those. You rappel from them, but not parachute. The main key is that you need a jet propelled aircraft capable of maintaining lift at a slow enough speed that is comparable to a propeller driven aircraft. Those previously mentioned air lifters all can do that to some extent while being yeeted through the air via a series of jet engines and while maintaining a practical size. Like I'm sure the US could deploy A LOT of troops out of C-5 Galaxies if they wanted to, but that'd just be a lot for little return. C-5's can dead drop stuff, but dropping in an entire cargo hold of troops would cover miles of distance. Not ideal for covert operations or for sending in a concentrated force.

Christmas crackers are hardly unique to Britain. We do them here all the time. I can buy snaps in the craft store to make my own, I can buy them in the grocery store if I want to be normal, and I can even buy fancy imported ones (frankly they were rubbish - I hope the ones you keep were better than the ones that you export).
