There is a very simple reason why you wouldn't survive as a samurai. Samurai *we're not supposed to survive* , they embued death. They meditated on it everyday, they welcomed it and always chased it. But that too, they fought.

"The Way of the Samurai is found in death. When it comes to either/or, there is only the quick choice of death. It is not particularly difficult. Be determined and advance. To say that dying without reaching one’s aim is to die a dog’s death is the frivolous way of sophisticates. When pressed with the choice of life or death, it is not necessary to gain one’s aim. We all want to live. And in large part we make our logic according to what we like. But not having attained our aim and continuing to live is cowardice. This is a thin dangerous line. To die without gaining one’s aim is a dog’s death and fanaticism. But there is no shame in this." -Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai, by Yamamoto Tsunetomo

Great post. But you didn't mention William Adams an English Sailor who came to Japan in the 1600s and became Miura Anjin a samurai and advisor to Tokugawa ieyasu. His story was depicted loosely in the miniseries Shogun back in the 1980s. There are books written about him such as the First Englishman in Japan by PG Rogers and Anjin the life and times of samurai William Adams as seen through Japanese eyes by Hiromi Roger's. Still an interesting video.

That’s such a gross mis interpretation. He settle his debt by selling off his family samurai lordship . But no starting capital to start Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi come much latter . And a combination of Yamauchi and Iwasaki ( so called the founder of Mitsubishi)

@@sofjanmustopoh7232 alright well I didn't have all the facts straight, but in the same spirit. How long is the gap between them selling the lordship and starting the company?

@@ducktheseraph the great grand father sold off the lordship after the Great Tenmei Famine due to debt accrued . Samurai family has to keep up appearance and get tribute from farmer but samurai CANNOT be a merchant or make money during that time . It would be unbecoming conduct of a samurai. Around 1790 the great grand father sold off the lordship to settle the debt . 1870 is when the predecessor of Mitsubishi was formed by Iwasaki Yatarō . He was working under Yamauchi ( samurai family ) clan . It is the Yamauchi capital joined with Iwasaki small capital and extreme hardworking that bring Mitsubishi to be one of the 4 big Zaibatsu .
