Miyamoto Musashi, discussed in this video, became a legend in swordsmanship during his lifetime - 1584 -1645. At nearly the same time (their lifetimes overlapped by 44 years) there lived an equally legendary swordsman at the other end of the great Eurasian landmass. He dwelt in France from 1611-1673 and was a captain in the Mousquetaires du Roi; his name was Charles de Batz de Castelmore. You know him as le Compte D'Artagnan.

Desmond Doss deserves to be on this list, the man went into the battle of Okinawa UNARMED, after everyone else had fled and retreated because the Japanese had them outnumbered, he single handedly went into no man’s land without a single weapon to save himself with, and saved 75 wounded soldiers that were left for dead in the middle of no man’s land, a true warrior, there’s a movie about him ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ great film

In my country Malawi (Africa) There is a famous story of a man named Mtingwi (pronunciation: mtee-ngweee) During raids and arrival of the whites some survivors on the coasts escaped inland deep into Africa. He was known to be a large man that helped save his people. Among him and a few warriors they were able to take down soldiers while raiding the villages that they passed and when they reached malawi he fought off the Ngoni tribe. Besting over 10 armed men in combat while he was not armed himself. Apparently one night a king from a distant village had his soldiers guide a lion to his hat so it could kill him. But the next day he came to the kings land holding the lions head. Asking him to Try again. The reason why the king had attempted this was because mtingwi had killed his son in combat. Who was actually considered larger in size than Mtingwi. Apparently he always refused to rule. When asked to do so. Claimed that ruling people required a different form of strength. He just preferred fighting To help clarify: Malawi is a landlocked country deep in Africa. And it was formed due to the arrival of many survivors that escaped the coasts. Through out its early beginnings it was a battle zone among different tribes all fighting to claim the land. It's a small country with over 20 different tribes spread out across it due to this reason.

@@chesterfieldthe3rd929 Yeah, well, but those men won't ever create a big empire that can protect its people and ensure wealth and progress. All great empires were created through blood and fighting. No tyrants will care about your ideal and they will kill you eventually cuz nobody with a white knight in shining armor attitude will survive for long. If you don't give people reason to fear you (the consequences of attacking you), then you will have to deal with one foe after another until you die or become a monster yourself. You don't need to be a tyrant yourself, but every great warrior in history, and even some of the great heroes, have blood on their hands.

@@chesterfieldthe3rd929 Jesus’ death resulted in far, far worse treatment of his followers than had he just tried to live and let live, because instead of just thinking “Oh look at these Christians and their wacky belief system,” people began thinking “These are followers of Christ; They MUST die before they spread their beliefs like a cancer.” . Besides, I’d like to see words stop a nuclear missile flying toward your homeland at 2,000 mph. I’d like to see kindness toward others prevent hundreds of miles from becoming radioactive. A true man never harms for the sake of harm, but understands when words no longer work and the Defense of his people and his home becomes necessary. Reality isn’t a fairy tale. For every 1 truly good Man, there are 200 Million bad men.

@@themadburner Most of the men ((and quite a few women)) in my family have served since WW2, so I don’t understand why you feel it necessary to try and berate someone over the internet. Modern technology doesn’t instantly make someone an exceptional warrior, it just means they know how to point and click a trigger. Given the fact that Humans ((Homo Sapiens)) have been evolving for more than 1 Million Years, it’s absolutely safe to assume that what we’d consider the “Truly Greatest Warriors” in history already lived and died a long time ago. Are you seriously trying to say that a 17 year old boy in Vietnam with an M16 shooting blindly into the jungle is on Par with Alexander the Great, a 20 year old who managed to bring nearly the entire known world under his single banner within 5 years?

The first Gurkha trained as paratroopers were told by their British trainers that they would be jumping from airplanes at 850 feet. They seemed dismayed at this and requested through their translator that this altitude be reduced to 500 feet. "Ridiculous", said the British trainer, there would be no time for your parachute to open. When this was translated to them, they seemed much relieved and their response was translated back. Well maybe it's ike the Seals if you put on a graph each recruit from worst physical and mental performance to the best you would see that rarely anybody in the top 20% make it. Bc they aren't looking for the greatest athletes. If they were they would just go to an ironman or CrossFit gym. They are looking for a cog in a unit. It's more about being able to mentally adapt, process, and endure. So maybe that's what happened with your Sherpas.They possibly could have been the biggest badasses there and still ended up on your soccer field.

Another fun fact... Christians of Hungary and Russia were part of the attack on Bagdad. The entire city was slaughtered, Muhammad's bloodline was ended, everyone gone. Napoleon and later Eisenhower both said words similar to "I would rather a lucky general than a good general" with Eisenhower going on to say " they win battles". Great tactics, strategies, overwhelming strength and battle plans can all be undone by mother nature and luck. Mustafa Kemal's determination and command and his personal rallying of the retreating Turkish troops at Gallipoli won the day for the Turks and he would go on to become Turkey's greatest modern leader. Yet luck played a part, a bullet or piece of shrapnel was stopped by his pocket watch in his left chest pocket preventing perhaps his death but certainly preventing him being incapacitated and thus able to personally rally the troops.

Khutulun beating multiple men at wrestling of all things is quite remarkable. There are to my knowledge no historically surviving reports mentioning that Khutulun was physically unusually large for a woman (a few mentioning that she was strong, but not unusually big) and as we know, size and mass really matter a lot in wrestling. So in many of her contests she was probably facing and beating men who were bigger, stronger and heavier than she was. The contests being formal ones with specific rules, where, per the Marco Polo account, victory appears to be awarded for first throw, probably helped, but still.
@importantvideos4529

What are your sources for her victories and claim to thousands of horses by beating these men? I've been asking around for years, no one has provided any other than Marco Polo, which to be honest, casts even more doubt. Unless you also believe in dragons and dog men, etc... Lol. 3 years of asking for verified, credible sources and eyewitnesses. No one has provided any. Yes she existed, and yes she was a good wrestler. But the more fantastical claims appear to be pdopoganda/tall tales as no one seems to have credible sources. They always go back to Marco Polo, which is a problem.

"The White Death" should definitely be on this list. Simo "Simuna" Häyhä (17 December 1905 - 1 April 2002) was a Finnish military sniper. He is believed to have killed over 500 men during the 1939-40 Winter War, the highest number of sniper kills in any major war. He used a Finnish-produced M/28-30 rifle, a variant of the Mosin-Nagant rifle, and a Suomi KP/-31 submachine gun. His unit's captain Antti Rantamaa credited him with 259 confirmed kills by sniper rifle and an equal number of kills by submachine gun during the Winter War. Later in his book, Rantamaa credited Häyhä with 542 sniper kills. Häyhä never talked about it publicly but estimated in his private war-time diary that he shot around 500.

Musashi is clearly the inspiration for Masamoto in Young Samurai. Very distinct parallels, including the late, and the early story. Not only that, but in the book, Masamoto made a fighting style known as the Two Heavens, using both Japanese swords. And eventually went to start a school for that technique. In fact, Masamoto even defeated one of his opponents with a Bokken.

No mention of Muso Gonnosuke In the Musashi story? There are some writings that state he won their second duel using the Jo which he designed around 1 foot longer then Musashi's Katana (long sword) and developed techniques to defeat Musashi's signature "X block". The story says he spared Musashi's life returning the favor Musashi had granted him in their first duel. Although there is some doubt this second duel ever took place Gonnosuke is Musashi's most famous opponent as he opened a stick fighting school, based around a fighting style he created, that still exists today - around 400 years later! Edit for typo
