If I ended up in Classical Athens, the first thing I would do is study up on the local language and then once I have familiarized myself with it enough, I would see as many of Sophocles’ plays as possible and I would document them for future generations. Because Sophocles is said to have written 100 plays, but only 7 have survived. If I documented the other 93, I feel I would be doing a great service to history, just like Herodotus. Wouldn't understand a word of modern greek is such an overreach. And that's without having a "theoritical education" as we say here, but a "stem" one. Now, an ancient Greek would know that First: I am speaking the same language as him. immediately he would. I think he would presume that i am from far away, but still, greek. With a bit of sign language and some still common words (they are a lot), i would have a much better chance than speaking with any other person that speaks a language i don't. AND, also, they would know my name :p. You would say "me, john" i would say " Εγώ ειμί ο Λεωνίδας". That would be enough.

Dude. The Greeks would burn all their temples down before giving a slave a weapon, wtf do you mean they were employed as police?? (That didn't exist as a concept as the soldiers were policing and every soldier was a citizen. Aka. An aristocrat). Those slavers millioners at least had the decency to beat the poor themselves, not like today
@ChatHistoryАй бұрын
There are many sources that show an authoritative "police" force began around the 5th century BC in Greece, especially Athens. Public slaves held those positions to enforce law and regulations.

2:36 Cypriot Greek is 65% the same as Ancient Greek and 80% similar to Ancient Greek. Therefore we would make some sense.
