Solitary confinement happens after you’ve done something really bad. And typically, something really bad in prison.
@michaelesposito26294 жыл бұрын
Matthew Tyson sure, but let’s not pretend it happens often at all. Might as well imagine you won the lottery. Twice. Probably better odds than you being sent to prison while innocent, AND also sent to long term solitary confinement , for doing nothing
@@GrifoStelle Rare, however when you take in count the prison population ~2.2 million people, even 1% is alot. The Innocence Project estimates that between 2-5% are innocent, locked away in jail&prison for crimes they did not committed. So lets say 3% are innocent, that means ~66000 from 2.2 million. You can only have cases if proven they innocent. Imagine if in a year that ~66000 are proven to be innocent. How many cases we would have were innocent ones were locked up in solitary confinement? The fact is it takes time to prove somebody is innocent once they got a guilty verdict. The justice system does not want to waste money, so unless some prof is brought to them that maybe the person is innocent after all, they wont re-open the case. And some of those innocent ones will die in prison do to complication, old age or assaulted. Or they commit a crime in order to survive or for other reason, making it even more difficult to get approved to re-open their case.

stove_boi there are many shades of introversion. Introverts still enjoy calming one on one interactions. The problem is when there are many people involved. And even extroverts need the occasional solitude to replenish their energy. There’s also people like me, that have trouble around people, and lose energy, but mainly because of the effort it takes for me to remain normal and not be judged. I believe a lot of “introverts” are not, and just have social anxiety, which drains their energy. When I wasn’t socially anxious, or when I’m around people I trust, my energy gets replenished. When I’m around people I don’t fully trust, my energy is drained. I believe that a large portion of introverts, aren’t introverts, or at least, aren’t at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. They are just shy people with social anxiety. Now If you don’t have social anxiety, AND you’re still drained by people, you’re an introvert.

Here's a twist: I spent 19 months of a 4 year sentence in AdSeg for a riot I didn't even participate in. Tbh, it's not that bad if you're ok with being alone. You can always talk to your neighbors either thru the door or thru the vents above your shower/toilet so you're not completely isolated. You get better food back there (the "high tech" or "solitary" part of the prison is usually in the back of the regular prison so we just called it "in the back") so you eat better. My time went pretty easily alone.

You realize that solitary confinement in most USA prisons now involves having a cellmate in that 8x10 space. There isn't much true solitary confinement in most prisons these days. EDIT: Solitary confinement is never, ever quiet. It's full of other people shouting at the top of their lungs.

As an introvert who has spent time in the hole, I can tell you that is horrible and absolutely terrifying. No matter how antisocial you are or how lonely you're feeling, it will never compared to being stuck in a jail cell all by yourself. The feeling was horrible for me and every time I closed my eyes I couldn't help but thinking about home, like it was all a bad dream, which made me feel even worse. I only spent a few days there so I made it out ok but anything more than that would probably have driven me insane.

@@AlexGarcia-iv9ik You just called yourself an introvert. So how are you gonna follow that up with "it was terrifying." Introverts love being alone, love self loathing, and dislike interactions with others. Sounds to me like the shoe is perfect for you people.

The Definition of Solitary Confinement is, "the isolation of a prisoner in a separate cell as a punishment." so technically detention would be considered solitary confinement because school is like prison, and detention is isolating you as punishment...

Actually, some solitary confinement prisons allow books for reading. One person in solitary confinement even said that since he was allowed to read books, that is what kept his sanity.

While in the Army I found out my wife was cheating on me. I told my Squad Leader about it. told him I was very depressed, could barely process it. He asked if I felt like hurting myself. I answered honestly and said yeah a little bit. They put me on "suicide Watch" immediately. Which to my command meant being locked in a broom closet next to the CQ desk with some MREs over the 4 day weekend until Behavior Health opened up. They took my phone to "Help" me process and not go crazy from texting my wife for answers to questions they felt I didn't need the answers to right now. It was by far the most traumatic week of my life. needless to say I didn't re enlist and ended my 9 year career instead of doing 20 like I planned. Now I have mental health check ups every 2 weeks with the VA and 70% disabled. partly my back but partly my Mental health. Solitary is no joke, especially when it is unjust, by people you trusted, while processing so much. And that was just 4 days.
