Yep. Factor in insurance, upkeep, and the risk of being injured (time off work and medical bills) by distracted drivers and you have your answer. There is also a generation gap between boomers/genX and the younger crowd, meaning different life experiences. People aren't riding because everyone knows someone who was killed on a bike. My youngest son Joshua was killed 2 years ago. He was wearing his gear. He was riding at a normal speed. He was not doing anything crazy or taking chances. A woman pulled out right in front of him while he was doing 50, and the impact was so great that it ripped his helmet right off, and his 29 year old life was ended in an instant. So, not everyone who dies on a motorcycle was being stupid or careless. Many are simply the victims of careless and stupid drivers. Many! It's a very real problem that deserves a hell of a lot more attention.

Started riding at 22yrs with an old NT650 Deauville, mainly because i like the thought of doing another sport with two wheels. Used to have time trial roadbikes, watt meters, HIIT training and all that stuff to go fast AF just with my two legs. Lightweight XC hardtails for light offroading, that i could still pull away from most avg roadbikers So motorcycling alwys made sense to me 3 years later and about 60.000km i still love it, but also as a necessity. Fuel, insurance maintenance is cheap and easy to do myself. Motorcycling isn't a lifestyle to me, but rather just as most ppl have a nice car. It's mostly for A to B stuff, but we all appreciate the nice aspects like power, handling, comfort etc I never think about the risks except when my relatives talk bout "huh durr bikes dangerous " I ride very defensively, to the point i have enough safety margins for almost every stupid decision another motorist might come up with I would argue that most young ppl just think about the risks and fear of injury/death while ignoring that you can still be safe if you have the right mindset

From what I’ve seen over the past 20 years of riding in so cal, just recently, the economy is getting bad to the point that the average young adult can’t afford to buy a new $13k 600cc sport bike. I work on bikes, and I’ve seen that a lot of people have older bikes from the early 2000s, and they need a lot of work to make them safe to ride, and people simply can’t afford it… A good example is back in 2010, I bought my 09’ gsxr600 for $9k brand new, if it was still low miles, it would easily sell used for $5-6k. I’ve also noticed people who buy these newer bikes, put a ton of miles on them…30-40k miles on a 2016+ newer bike, so they are basically clapped out by the time they’re traded in/ sold. Riding dirt bikes/ motorcycles is quickly becoming a luxury.

I live in the Netherlands where there has actually been a pretty big increase in the number of motorcyclists in the last few years, mainly due to the heavy traffic. Its legal to lanesplit in the Netherlands so more and more people switch to motorcycles. It's usually people in their 30's and 40's that start riding, don't see many young riders but that's because of our drivers license system. You have to be at least 24 years old to be able to take the exam to ride a 'big' motorcycle (more than 35KW), if you start younger you'll have to take the exam multiple times (first 11KW, than 35KW, than a licence for all bikes) so not many start riding at a young age. Absolutely agree with your crash statistics. Lots of riders ride for fun and ride without proper gear and / or take way too many risks which skew the results. And yes, the youth is a bunch of sensitive softies. They're offended by anything and everything is too scary for them lol. Pretty funny that at 3:10 you call it 'riding in heavy traffic' , lol for us that's extremely quiet traffic!

It depends on what bike you want, if you are trying get a superbike or a Harley the you have to pay a lot. A used Grom can be had pretty cheap and those little bikes are a hoot. Just look at that Grom crew that rode by in this video, they were having fun. As far as danger, you can get killed being a pedestrian. Like I said in the video, you are never safe, your body will likely kill you one day. If you wear the gear and ride defensively you will be just fine unless it is your time to go.

Don't underestimate low cc bikes there are some 150cc motorcycle/scooters that if you full throttle, especially from a dead stop you can power wheelie so abruptly that you can fall back and crack the back of your head if you don't have a helmet!

Saying that a $700 vest needs to be law? Sure if it was less expensive. But it's already a challenge enough for most people to come up with the extra money to buy a bike then get a helmet and insurance exc. And here you are talking about how less and less people are buying bikes. Why discourage more people and make it even harder to get started? 😮

It's fear of the unknown; Maybe woulda should never gotta. I might wreck keeps them from trying. Besides being out there, exposed to everything. Not realizing inertia will help keep the bike upright beyond 10-12MPH. In other words, the faster you go above that speed, the less of your own balance comes into play. The low-speed, stop-n-go stuff is actually a lot harder. But they don't know this, so go slow and low side it. Or, God forbid, high side!

Kids don't ride because they are told motorcycles are dangerous. They also dont ride because they have nobody to teach them to ride because of the expense of these. Bikes are expensive so less and less people are able to afford these as well as these same people not being able to teach others on how to ride these. Classes for these are becoming expensive to take as well.

I think mainly it’s just that there are so many new ways for people to entertain themselves that hobbies like cars and motorcycles just isn’t practical anymore. After all why would someone risk their life and a crap ton of money when they can get almost the same adrenaline and dopamine from things like playing video games for so so so much cheaper and safer. The increased living expenses and lagging wages just makes it even more impractical. Personally despite just finishing high school, I own a sports car and motorcycle that I abuse around pretty often, but I’d be lying if there wasn’t time where I skipped a canyon ride or drift event because I’m worried if I have enough money for fuel, or if I’d have to borrow money to make my payments, or wether the money I saved for years could have been better spent elsewhere.

Seriously? I don’t know who your trying to convince that a video game can offer the same amount of pleasure as actually doing the act. But at 52 , you’ll never convince me of such an absurd claim. You obviously feel the need to write a comment based on your own personal feelings, emotions, and financial state. Which is fine, your free to speak your mind. But it’s kind of senseless to ignore how millions of other people do not, and never will feel the same as you.
@Declestic26 күн бұрын
@@airadaimagery692 Hey man, I agree with you, most people will not feel the same amount of pleasure from actually doing the act, as I stated. But considering that a motorcycle is going to be thousands for a small one, another thousand for gear, insurance and then some more for maintenance, the reduced pleasure from video games (which can get really intense at times) will probably accomplish a majority of what people are seeking for a price they can swallow. And for some extra credibility, many of my friends and a formally motorcyclist professor agrees with me, some were even pointed out by my peers.

I'm 28, just started riding 3 months ago on a Yamaha R3 and I'm loving it. Already put almost 7k km on my bike and feeling pretty good with the skills I've learned so far. When I got my bike, a lot of people in my circle thought I was crazy and irresponsible for getting the bike. It's definitely annoying how a lot of people in this generation are such pussies about the whole notion of riding motorcycles and they automatically assume that just because you ride, you're one of those people doing triple the speed limit in traffic doing dumb shit all the time. I know my bike is slow compared to supersports, but it's still a ton of fun to rip around the streets. As long as you ride smart and wear gear, you'll be fine (for the most part). Ride safe y'all.

We all know we have fewer new riders now with the constant cases of hearing riders dying almost everyday. Then the fact if you're in a major city you have to deal with bad drivers that are likely distracted with their phone pulling out in front of you or getting rear ended at a light because some idiot had to text or answer a call. It really has nothing to do with your toughness, it's potential new riders seeing all those deaths that scare em off. Then there's the hard headed noobs that are squids with no gear dying or end up in the hospital swearing they should've wore gear because hindsight is always 20/20. What's funny is in my case I'm a chef and when I started working with a friend to open her restaurant I was the only rider among 30 staff members and now 16 of us ride bikes from 3 R6s, R1, CBR1000RR, S1000RR, 2 ZX6Rs, RS660, 2 MT07s, XSR900, Street Triple RS, Bonneville, Africa Twin and a HD lowrider ST.

That is why I'd like to see a mandatory helmet and airbag gear law.. We have to save riders from themselves and there would be a lot less riders getting killed. I usually hate new laws but I'm sick of hearing of so many motorcycle related deaths. What I want people to realize is that it is not the motorcycle it is the rider that is dangerous. Great to see you have influenced to many to ride! Stay safe!

Forget riding gear and ride like you drive a car and do the speed limit and use the power if need be to get out of a situation. Pay attention and expect the person driving the car to do something stupid and make a way out for yourself if they do. anticipate and see the big picture is my advice. Riding Gear gives you a false sense of security and safety. Plus a helmet takes away your hearing and your peripheral vision. learn about riding and take course on riding and watch KZbin videos on what not to do
