Best to have multiple characters you can do daily normal random dungeons with, folks. If you have five characters to do them, then that's 50 Transmutation Crystals right there, and then you won't have to run around for long with armor with the Well-Fitted trait instead of Divine ;)

ZOS should put the damage type in the top right corner of the tool tip. Just 2 simple lines would help out so many players. Single/Area & Direct/DoT.

I've pretty much learnt everything about this game from online resources and people in the guilds. ZOS tells almost nothing about how things work in the game itself.. I think they've deliberately chosen to do it that way, maybe to create more online communities of players helping each other out?

@@JokesR4us Both of those are very strong and fun DPS classes. Magplar is one of the best healers in the game, too. I probably enjoy my nightblades the most (have dps, tanks, and healer--all super fun and competitive to varying degrees). As a new player, I'd suggest focusing on your templar first. Magblades are good, but require ideal rotations to be great (I'm below great on it myself). Templar is easy to be quite strong. And, you can use the armory system to make a strong healer spec for instant queue Randoms.

The one thing I didn't realize a couple years ago: DPS is calculated on a Trial Dummy, which gives you some buffs and calculates in some enemy debuffs. I always calculated my DPS on a 3mil dummy, and was always 20-40k dps off the mark of what a build was otherwise doing. That's normal. You'll deal 20-50% less damage against a 3m dummy than you will against a trial dummy depending on your penetration, enemy debuffs, and self buffs. That doesn't mean you HAVE to test builds against a trial dummy. They're pretty expensive after all, and ZoS doesn't want to give players an expensive toy for free so there've been no events where you can get one. You have two options; if you get a free 3m dummy, or the you maybe have that free Ogrim dummy from the recent event, you just need to keep an eye on your penetration, know what buffs you have, and know what debuffs you deal. At the end of your parse, see the difference between your damage and the damage of the content creator that you're using as reference. If you're in the 20-50% range, you're probably doing it correctly. Your second option is to join a guild. Many guilds have a hub house they like to use, usually owned by the guild leader. It, more often than not, will have a trial dummy to parse against. I personally don't like going to a guild hall to parse, since there's usually people around. But if you don't mind it, it's almost always an option.

The issue with having to practice all those weavings and rotations and stuff is the expectations and results. I want to practice rotations and weaving, but how do I know if I'm doing it right when my DPS is still 19k? Is it because I'm not doing it right? Or is it because of the limitations of my build? How can I be sure that the low numbers is due to the gear I'm wearing and not because I'm not doing proper animation canceling? I know there's a constant debate on weather or not weaving and cancelling means exploiting a 'bug' or if it's designed by the game to be that way, like in devil may cry, being able to cancel an attack by jumping on an enemy, allowing you to do multiple helm breakers, the game never conveyed it, when people discovered it, it was labelled as a glitch/exploit. The DmC reboot did something which legitimized the helm breaker cancel, which was done by playing combos in loading screens, the game doesn't tell you how to do it, but by showcasing it's possible, it pushed a lot of players to try it. That said, the game was designed to be able to be just as stylish without needing to practice those cancels. In ESO's case, the game tutorials barely even show you the basic, but I think if it was required to practice and perfect the animation cancelling and weaving, the game should be more specific about it. If the devs are designing dungeons and trials with DPS checks where you absolutely MUST do weaving, then they're doing a terrible job at explaining their own game to the players. All I'm saying is, it's because the game doesn't convey in any way if you're light weaving or cancelling correctly, it's hard to tell if the problem is your gear, your CP, or if you're simply not weaving properly. And the scary part is that practicing doesn't mean perfecting something, it means honing your muscle memory, you can practice the alphabet incorrectly and you'll be so good at reciting it in the wrong way, when you find out the right way, your muscle memory will keep stumbling you. So, when is it good to try to improve your DPS via weaving and cancelling, and not via builds, gear, and CP? How do you know you've taken out the best out of your gear and now it's time to master your own skills in weaving and cancels?
@newworldforward1842

Yes, for all that stuff there are add-ons that will give you that info. If you're on console however, your best bet may be to have someone experienced looking at you while humping the dummy to tell you what you're doing wrong.. In game info won't tell you much of anything unfortunately.

pick fun over dps numbers 💯
@Cooperharley0204
@Cooperharley0204 2 жыл бұрын
Reasons: 1. Missing part of the build 2. Lack of experience/knowledge of their class and the rotation needed to achieve advertised numbers Lots of new players come in and get the sets they need for BiS DPS, but have no idea how to do a proper rotation. So they achieve subpar DPS. Simple. Practice makes perfect. If achieving 130k dps was that easy for a new player, everyone would have godslayer

For solo builds specifically, armor traits are important, but going divines will usually not make or break your build. However, not having well fitted on a lower sustaining build can easily break a build. In general, for solo play specifically, a combination of divines, well fitted, reinforced, and infused is not just fine to have, its good. Especially well fitted. Roll dodge cost reduction is amazing when soloing (or trying to solo) vet dlcs

I switched to a MMO mouse and really improved my rotations. Being able to click thumb buttons frees up my hand to focus on movement and dodging. But it took A LOT of practice to get good with it. Trying to find a class you like is REALLY important. I started off with a stamina DK but spend more time with my magicka templar (with lightning staff AOE focus). I played the necro and found the rotations to be annoying busy work BUT when I respec'd him to a tank I enjoyed playing the class. Don't be afraid to try new classes and builds. I absolutly love ESO, but the build system is where I kinda feel it falls down. The game teases and gives you the illusion of choice with so many awsome options but to be successful at end game you find out that you don't have much choice at all. Nearly every build in it's roll Tank, Healer, DPS all require the exact traits. They never change. Yet you are given the illusion and have to grind out for MANY traits that never get used. You also are pretty much locked into attaining all the "buffs" out of your skills. Due to this, every build feels 50-75% the same espessially on backbar with only a few skills from class lines that give you those buffs you need. Again you have this illusion of so many skills, but you are in the end restricted from the few skills that give you those buffs.

My biggest gripe is there are so many sets in the game that are pretty much useless, while there are only a few "meta" sets that pretty much everyone seem to use. They should focus on bringing the "useless" ones up to par with the meta so they actually present more viable build choices.

Ive been able to solo wb's vma and other things that i thought was impossible on my dk(yes i know dk can do alot more things over templar and more so userskill lol) but having the general thought of what your abilities do/what sets provide you a bonus to such abilities and so forth makes the game so much easier overall to understand on how to play and makes it so much more enjoyable instead of going why am doing 10kdps and dying all time lol

What I find frustrating is that why must we alway choose a class that is better suited for magsorc, etc. High Elf is recommended for better dps but a Breton is recommended for better sustain? What if I prefer the Wood Elf over the High Elf and Breton for Magsorc? I’m just using the Wood Elf, etc as an example. And yes I do look at a lot of the Meta Builds and sometimes I feel they are restricting and confusing… I like to play Solo and my main toon is a High Elf Sorc but my damage output is only 20k. And that’s with recommended armor sets and recommended Champion Nodes and the Divine Trait. Some traits I will never get hold of because I solo play and I feel that is unfair because some of the traits can only be obtained by doing World Bosses and Trials which I will never do because I play solo. Returning to my Wood Elf point, I would like to try the Sorcerer class some time in the future and see how the Wood Elf works out. Damage output and sustain will not be optimal but at the end of the day, how I want to play and with my preferred class should be the main aim. And I like a challenge. I just find that most builds available on the internet forces one to choose the recommended race and doesn’t leave much room to play the race you want with the class you prefer.

@@HiHelloHi fair enough, however there are a fair amount of ESO players who play Solo. And if they can do the majority of the content playing Solo then so can I. Obviously for me, Trials are out of the question because you need to be part of a group to complete those. And it is pointless joining a guild because I hail from South Africa and I play on the NA Server so the timing difference is a problem for me. But I’ve got this far with my High Elf Sorcerer- she is at CP731 and I got her there by playing Solo the majority of the time. The only time I play in a group is for the Undaunted Guild. And yes luckily I found a necklace with the bloodthirsty trait on the guild store and I think this will increase my damage output. Most of my gear is purple and it will take a lot of play time etc to even upgrade them to gold but I have a lot of patience. And I will get there. But either way, one should be able to play the race they want with the class they prefer and one shouldn’t feel pressured to stick with the class better-suited for the role they wish to play. As I said, all the builds can be very confusing and if I’ve learnt anything since I game back to ESO in November last year, I’ve learnt that the best way to play is by trial and error and use what works for you. Thanks for your input though, much appreciated 😊
