I've used them on my lawn mowers for years to keep the battery fresh for season after season. When I first got my c5 I didn't think I would need one but one day I came out to a dead battery and from that day forward, it gets put on the tender when not I'm not going to be driving it for a few days. One of the best investments you can get for sure.

Yup unfortunately it’s about that time of year here in the northeast. This video reminded me to connect mine today.

I have four battery tenders for some of my vehicles, the others are used fairly often! I had a battery in my Harley last NINE years! Now I need to get one for my C5 that I purchased recently! Love your vids, they make my life a little bit easier!

I chose CTEK for my C5 and my 02 Lexus. awesome charger that doesn’t overcharge like some do. Not saying this one does. They have a recondition mode which they recommend to use 2x a year for 6 hours at a time. It’s gives it extra charge to boost its life. I was on the phone last week with a rep and he told me one of his coworkers has used this recondition mode 2x a year and he got about 10 years out of it.

Interesting. I am on 10+ years now with my AGM battery (Duracell of all brands...) and it is just starting to get weak - will be replacing in spring.

@ nice. I have an interstate in both my C5 and my Lexus. New battery this past spring in my Lexus so now that it’s outside on my driveway it needed a battery tender also. The cold temperature kills a battery. In fact this past spring my 5 year old gold Autozone battery went to shit after one winter being outside without a tender. By April it was dead.

Agreed ctek way better product. Set it and forget it.

I have the ctek as well. Better product and a lot more flexible. Plus it charges way faster when you need it. I leave mine on over winter.

My Z06 is on a Battery Tender Jr that I've had for a couple of decades. So is my motorcycle. They bot go on as soon as they park (though I dod usually wait for the Z to cool down a bit - the neg terminal gets HOT).
@46miles2 ай бұрын
Have you checked BOTH terminals on your battery lately? Sounds like the negative may be a little loose!

Cost to benefit ratio comes to mind first.

Your video makes me wonder: For Midwest winter storage, is it better to leave the battery in the car on a charger or remove the battery and store indoors on a charger until spring? Not sure if there are positives or negatives for either choice.
@Toys4Life2 ай бұрын
Easier to leave in with the tender IMO. Alternatively you can remove a fully charged battery & placing in in a cool (but above) freezing place and it should be just fine as well. Just don't strip the relatively soft threads the side posts (with they yearly routine) and you should be fine IMO.

@@Toys4Life I was thinking of the instance where you have to store the car at an offsite storage facility that has no power outlet. Seems storage units with power hookup are very pricey.
@Toys4Life2 ай бұрын
In that case (if it were me) I would remove the battery and take it with me if it is going to get below 32F.

You should have added that a previously frozen battery should never be charged and especially never load tested as it will blow up in your face. Don't ask me how I know this.

@Toys4LifeАй бұрын
Yes. But, if there are multiple times a year that you don't drive it much it becomes a hassle and over the life of the battery it is possible the soft threads in the battery become damaged. IMO it is a cheap and super easy way to keep the battery at optimal charge and takes about 20 seconds to hook up/remove.
