Notable barn find. Interested in a fleet of unused Fiero's? You'll have rodent damage to wiring, dust & cobwebs, I'd expect but otherwise ... not much, they're were in dusty, new condition. Not in-country but for 000 mile cars, how far would you go? Don't get hyped, I'd need go back to see exact # and hear if they're getable.

Top 7 reasons to buy an LS3: Makes more power than the LS2 Car retains better resale value than the 2005-2007 C6 Better aftermarket support for the LS3 Better manual transmission with the LS3 (TR6060 vs T56) Stronger rear end in cars with the LS3 Better oiling in the LS3 Higher hp gains on the LS3 compared to same mods on an LS2

What was the reason for the custom tensioner in the first place? Planning my 86 gt sc 3.8
@Toys4Life3 күн бұрын
Because the one I had on there was a BUDGET modded 3800 part just to get started a few years back and didn't look the greatest - and I came across a spare LS1 tensioner that I thought would look better and be easier to replace in the futuere.

Once you start, it will NEVER end. The C5Z's LS6 had a tough 6 bolt main, but you can still destroy your pistons and rockers if you're not careful. My 2003 C5Z, with its stock LS6, now makes about 750hp at the franck on a stock clutch, drives like a normal car around town and it also passes Ca Smog when the cats haven't been burned up! Andy from A&A had to dyno tune it a bunch of times to get it to do all that and I also had to have changes made to the valve train, including bigger springs, a stud kit and a trunnions, since stock rockers came apart; replaced stock fuel pump with a C6Z fuel pump; added a slightly bigger cam; custom C6Z exhaust manifold with the plumbing for the stupid C5 air pump system added; two C7 cats, which it burns through ever few years; bigger radiator, etc., etc. I don't even want to think about how much I've spent. In the end, nothing can keep up it on the freeway, but who cares? The stock car was very quick, well made and very reliable. Is it worth the money? Depends on how mature you are i guess.....
@Toys4Life3 күн бұрын
I enjoy every step in the process immensely. Dreaming, planning, saving, buying, building, tuning validating and then.....REPEAT (:-) Worth it depends on how much you enjoy it and what other demands there are for your resources IMO.

Do you have a method for cleaning the bolts before reinstalling? Or do you just buy new bolts?
@Toys4Life3 күн бұрын
I replace any critical TTY bolt. Otherwise I clean most with a wire wheel to get old loctite/sealt/crud off. I like blue loctite very much and it works best with minimal oil/crud in the way. Loctite is a penny per bolt/nut. Cheapest insurance there is IMO!

The set up i would like to do is bolt them down when i need them then store them when i dont. Have you noticed any anchors loosing up over time from repetitive torqueing down and removal? If so how did you deal with the issue?
@Toys4Life3 күн бұрын
Good point. I leave mine in most of the time and share you concern with most anchors. If I did it over again I would likely look deeper into the epoxy anchors. Mine are fine so far - but I keep a good eye on them.

Great vid .. but Removing the alternator makes things smoother. Lowering the cradle isn't necessary. Completely removed the rack, not necessary plenty of room just lifting it over tension pulley. Remove the lines off the rack completely if you're 'removing the rack from the car.' Remove your fan assembly. Push the ac condenser towards the front bumper you'll need the room. Use your belt to lock the crank if you have an automatic. No tool needed. Heat the crank bolt 'torch' u won't hurt front seal. Remove the crank bolt. Remove timing cover. Set the timing. Remove cam retainer plate. Install 9/16 rods for lifter support. Remove cam. Install cam. Use new cam retainer plate. Reverse procedure 😅 Walla. And you saved yourself time/frustration.
@Toys4Life6 күн бұрын
I appreciate the comment! I am sure this works for you (& likely others) and I would love to see a video of it for your method to really sink in - maybe I would adopt some of it. Personally, I hate to fight with stuff getting in my way while working so I tend to remove things to avoid the frustration. Also, the rods are 5/16, not 9/16 and 22 inch minimum length for anyone reading this.

sounds like you recommend the LS6 springs and everything can be stock, correct? In the hot summer days, does the car run any hotter because of radiator blockage? any belt slip issue? How did you get the power to maintain so strong to redline? I want that? what all do I need to get that? springs? injector upgrades? who do I email to get the $500 dollar supercharger kit discount?

New LS6 Springs with my stock 2003 LS1 Valvetrain - has worked great for me for 5+ years.
