@Vintage ATV & CYCLE well geez I’m not Chief but I run a pontiac race car as well and I could sure use some free labor designing a tube chassis for the new car! I’m building it in secret with the same engine only aluminum with a lot more displacement. Cars will otherwise be IDENTICAL. Plan is to quietly bring the new car to the scene with “a new tuneup” and get to chopping heads off lol. That’s why (one of the reasons) I love pontiac lol all the engines are the same physical dimensions and when I tell ppl “it’s just little pontiac” it’s no cause for concern lol it gets ZERO respect 😂🤣🤣 and the og is FAR from slow (never been on dyno but it SHOULD make close to 500hp on the built stroker on motor alone and it has 2 2 stage nitrous kits that again in theory should ADD over a grand to it) the street won’t hold it on 29.5x10.5 and I haven’t run it at a track but not pressing either buttons and only running the kits controlled by the progressive she’s run just over 120(analog gauges) in the 1/4 on 29.5x10.5 MT drag radial slicks with water burnout launching off a concrete “bridge” that turns to asphalt maybe 100 ft out and doesn’t have to be trailered to the spot. Few gallons of 93 pump gas with some octane booster to drive there and one gallon of Sunoco 112 added to the main fuel cell and half gallon added to the small (think it only holds 2 gallons maybe one idk was bought used) cell that’s specifically for the nitrous kit that is injected directly into the intake. Back yard billy rigged set up for sure but she’s taken a few victims that I KNOW have 40k just in the chassis and 10k just on the turbo set up. She run damn good for an el cheapo budget build. Can’t wait to get the new car built and running with a real engine!

Hey Chief go to home depot and buy 4 RYOBI Multi Surface Laser Level. This is what we use to keep the rear wheel frame and front wheel inline on Harleys. On my son’s Pinto I used the same 4 lasers to aline his small block, 9 inch rear and 4 link. We measured between the shock towers, 2 lower fender bolts, rocker panels pinch seem and the trunk and floor seems. Shot the laser down the middle, to a-line the wheels, front wheels straight measuring from Center cord to center cord on the tires, set the lasers on the floor up against the rear tires and Measure the difference between the laser beams from the sides of the front tires.

You just experienced a life of a programmer from a mechanic perspective. I've become a master of decyphering what 100s of contractors has built over the course of many years and fixing the flaws of the design. Many times I come across things I just dont know the best way to tackle it. Knowing that I'm not the only person whose run into it I research the gaps and design proven solutions to those issues. YOU showed all that in your video only it was for a race car. I'm a self taught programmer who started programming myself as a little kid can applied my skilled to the coporate world for over 20 years now. I dropped out of college to work actually doing what I love. I love it ,and have the same OCD in that knowing that I've solved the issue myself and gained more knowledge in doing so. Love the videos Justin! Wish I had a mentor because I'd love to work on my own cars but I dont think thats in the cards for me.

AWESOME VIDEO CHIEF!!! The video is very informative that relates to everybody because most people deal with OEM. Tube Chasis isn't common in racing, Stock or slightly modified is for real street racing. Thanks for keeping it real Chief!!!
@brandonharze21332 жыл бұрын
Tube chassis are VERY common in racing. Even in the street on small tires it has to be SPECIFIED a car has to have stock frame rails. And even then ppl are finding ways to incorporate factory frame rails and suspension into tube chassis cars lol mild steel chassis can be bought used for Pennies and even brand new you can find the kits for a grand or 2. Even chromoly isn’t near as foreign as it was a year or 2 ago. Most “budget builds” these days are second hand chassis cars lol the guys screamin stock this and stock that are the guys with huge budgets who can afford the best of the best subframes and whatnot to where they actually outperform the typical outdated chassis cars. That’s the main reason you see so many trucks at the track lol don’t have to battle the unibody design you can simply pull the bed and cab off and drop them on whatever tube chassis found cheap or billy rigged out back. Unibody are a tad more “complex” to put on a full tube chassis

First off enjoy all your content. Great stuff. I enjoy these type of videos. No disrespect as I know you have alot of great knowledge and I learned many things from this channel. Did I hear you say that the ladder bar crossmember is not parallel to the rear axle? Your instance center is measured off the front mounting point and with it on a angle you now have two instance center measurements. One side it is farther forward then the other. Your hung up on engine centerline but in a door slammer many cars( mopars) The engine is off set while the pinion is centered. I be more concerned with those front ladder bar mounts then the centerline. Oh love the garage cat. We all need shop cats! Lol.

Congratulations on the Manscape stuff. 👍 On a other note Chief, there are plenty of people out there who didn’t finish school and have way surpassed life just like yourself. Cause we have people out there like my sister who graduated high school and even went to College and thinks that they know everything. But in Reality they know nothing about the real world and how it works cause they only studied book smarts in this game we call life. When you find something that you love doing , you’ll learn EVERYTHING about it. That’s all that my husband and I see in your videos. Keep up the good work and don’t be so hard on yourself about it. ✌️

your problem with a right angle to the center line is the old 3---4---5 --- ratio because 3 squared plus 4 sguared equals 25 which is 5 squared. now you can make right angles any where you want on the center line

As the rear axle goes up and down it is no longer in line with the crankshaft right? If the engine was offset an Inch or so would that make much of a difference? Sometimes when you install a larger engine in a small area it has to go where it fits!

I don't understand why he couldn't just use a square, I mean a perpendicular line is just 90* or a right angle from the centerline.

@keithbishop38502 жыл бұрын
Just caught up on the videos, great content. I'm an old construction worker and to find a 90 degree angle pick a spot on your midline and measure 4 feet one direction and mark the spot. Pull a measuring tape from the 4 foot mark and another from the first midline mark out 3 feet and the diagonal should be 5 feet where the two tapes intersect. You can pull a line from those two marks and you got it. On a good calculator you can use the rise and run and put whatever measurement you want and it will give you the length of the diagonal intersect.

I said early on when you hinted that this car had alignment issues and then the condition of the bearings that this old vetted wasn't 100% straight front to back and side to side. Look at what you just did in a few nights with some pretty primitive tools. Imagine if you had a chassis table available, And the things you could do. I’ve got a Ph.D. In mathematics and when you started talking bout needing that perpendicular…I told my wife I learned this by construction in HS, and literally motioned in our kitchen counter how you make the arcs and intersection arcs, etc. and then you started in with your explanation, so I didn’t have to be a total geek and send you mine! I’ve been watching some of your videos lately ], started because I’m 🤧🤒😷 you’re no longer on street outlaws…that shows nothing without you. But loved the content here!

There is a whole generation of people that don't appreciate what can be found in old books! You have a good collection to help figuring this stuff out. The circle trick is something I've used, but never would have thought to apply it to this type of task.

Yay for sponsors. Interested to see how he plays it, are we going to have meat delivered to our back door? Or clean up the Bushes around your front or the back door. ##OGposListener17

I like the way you figured it out. I’ve been pulling ( with measuring ) perimeter chassis for 40 years. All cars and trucks are basically 3 squares with a center section being most important. Where the engine resides and the rear cargo area. Your always projecting off of an undamaged area to find the damage or in your case improperly installed parts. I remember you saying the left front frame rail was up?!! There has to be some damage in the front square (engine area) I’d look for replaced body parts. You should find if the car has been wheel hit or whacked in the nose with diamond being in the whole rail or sway in the nose both causing the motor to be on a cocked angle. Most important is to cross cross your center section and see if the chassis has diamond in it. ( the whole frame rail being back on the body so you can see the crankshaft is going to be not parallel with the ground either. Your from center measurements may be ok and you’ll get frustrated as things are on center. So either the front square where the engine is has been swayed over of the whole rail has been pushed back. Both causing the crankshaft to be not parallel with the direction you want the race car to go. That rail being up is a sign to start looking for damage. It didn’t come from the factory that way. I hope this long way of saying a short thing helps you guys out!

Hey back to the video you did check out when the light came on. Dave was making a sandwich or something. He stayed the same car behind all the way. If you all left together it would of been a close dam race in his defense. But you got the w regardless!! Nice lick man!!!

I just love these videos. Jackie, I see you got the kitty to come around! Love the editing! Chief, your not only a bad ass driver but your entire knowledge of the entire race car is WHY your able to do more with less. There’s some other guys who could REALLY use your help. These guys lose races over dumb shit that you would NEVER miss.

@ Justin Shearer I’m the same way with anything I’m really into as well. I don’t want someone else telling me the problem, I want to investigate and do it myself bc imo no one else is going to care about it MORE than ME! That said, I’m certainly not opposed to someone helping me with things if I’m really stuck, but I still have this need to totally understand the problem, what caused the problem, the solution to the problem and how said problem could’ve potentially caused another problem elsewhere so that I can make sure that’s checked out as well! 😁. There are some “ well known “ drivers out there that seem to want the very best results without knowing exactly how to diagnose and fix it themselves. Same with tuning . It’s cool to have Steve Pwtty or Jamie Miller tune your car I guess but, to me ( and I know it’s the same for you ) I want to know how to do it ALL myself including chassis suspension, the whole nine yards. When you spun the tires at cash days a few weeks ago, it was the first time you had lost a race bc you spun in a LONG time. Why is that when we see guys at every single race no matter track or street blow the tires? It’s because YOU put in the work on YOUR car and you have such a great knowledge for reading a surface and you know exactly what to do in the laptop AND setting up suspension, four link etc. I swear if I were super wealthy, id buy you an NPK car, pay for all crew and expenses bc I KNOW if you had the best stuff or what you wanted, you’d wipe the floor with those guys! You’ve proven it over and over that you can win anywhere anytime against anyone and you’ve done it with FAR less than those guys. Bristol, Bandimere , back of the track , Armegedon STREET, not many guys if any can say THAT.

Hey Jackie and Chief, speaking only as a layman, When to get the frame straight and true so the crank is in line with the rear. Trying to get the frame straight and true horizontally (side by side) doesn’t the frame being straight and true vertically fight you getting it straight? Or does adjusting the suspension cancel that out? Again, I know nothing about setting up the chassis for drag racing but I am super interested in learning. Thanks guys🤙🏻🤙🏻
@justinshearer30162 жыл бұрын
if you can get the frame/chassis straight it helps for sure, but alot of older stock framerail cars just aint gonna get there lol
