I agree. In my experience silence is the best way to manage the narc. Can’t avoid the narc 100% but when we must coexist incompletely ignore him, my wife’s father. It’s very predictable he will always try to talk to me and I pretend he’s not there. Then he moves on with others until someone will talk to him and 5 min later he’s yelling or possibly crying. The narc is insane! Manufacturing drama and blaming others. I tell my wife’s family that you all know how he is and choose to accept his behavior; so you all have to deal with the consequences! I have tried my best to help and get to know the narc and I regret every second of wasted time and energy…

People ask me if I'm ok now that I live alone. I tell them I'm more than fine, that I can remember praying that one day I could be with just me. Pointing out all of my faults and that every single thing I do is wrong or not good enough or too late is refreshing when it's me saying it to myself. Not having to walk on eggshells or ask permission to do things or go somewhere or buy something in a supermarket is a freedom that people take for granted and that I'm still not used to. Being able to speak to whomever I want or say anything outside of an allowed narrative to those people still makes me nervous. Before, I guiltily did these ordinary things in tiny bits and in secret. Yeah. I'm more than fine being alone. .....and silence is best for m because it involves zero contact and zero micro(-to-macro) aggressions.

Nine times out of ten they ultimately won't bother doing anything too dramatic , they instead tend to try to bad mouth you to any flying monkey willing to listen , but if you have gone FULLY no contact , the chances are you will never feel any real repercussions . The narcissist sees themselves as sly and very formidable , but in reality their fury consists mostly of hot air , because ultimately THEY don't actually control reality OR other people's minds ! 🙏❤️

My narcissist abuser (also a severely alcoholic, chronically ill, and miserable person) used to scream at me that I was "SMI" when I would try to calmly bring up some of his highly problematic behavior. He would even use the term "SMI" as a proper noun toward me cattily during his tantrums (he is 53). I learned over time that the only option for me was to be completely silent, to essentially shun him (not in a bitter way, but more like acting like he was simply not there, completely neutrally and calmly). He hated it at first and would viciously, drunkenly scream things like "you think you're this quiet and timid person or something," to which I learned my only option as a response was more silence. Edit: he would also try to convince his boyfriend (half his age and who was also an addict, and with whom he was in a very codependent, needy, adolescent kind of relationship) that I was indeed "SMI" (he felt the need to use the term for the most extreme kind of mental illness as a way to make himself feel that much more safe, secure, and superior, he was that delusional and afraid of seeing his own behavior). Edit #2: He would also drunkenly remind me that he used to be a nurse years and years back in his life (before he went to prison for a drunk driving accident, an experience he apparently never learned from), as if that justified him inaccurately and abusively throwing the term "SMI" at me during his rages. The hypocrisy and projection honestly stunned me, but at the end of the day I saw that it all came from an immense amount of fear in him. A fear of life, a fear of death, a fear of sobriety, a fear of himself, a fear of others, a fear of everything.

The silence wins for me because I don't feel anymore that I owe the narcissist any explanation anymore or that I have to prove myself in any way. I feel it deep down to the core of my being.Once we go down the path of getting the knowledge we pass a point where we know we can't go back to what used to be and realize the pre and post narcissistic relationship are two polar opposite worlds and we go from living to serve the narcissist to being apathetic and stoic to what the narc thinks and feels. It's a rough road to freedom, but we couldn't have it Any other way. And we wouldn't want to.

It has changed my heart and my mind and that means I am a better person than I was ever with the Narc. I hope that my healing will be felt and experienced by my children as u have to counter weight their Narc father and grandmother. Please pray for our little family. Blessings to you.

This was much needed! I just reached 2 months since the break up. Being that I am processing 4 years of narcissistic abuse, I keep feeling the need to text him or call him to find closure, or prove myself innocent of all the horrible things he accused me of. I made the mistake of doing that a few weeks after we separated and it was just an invitation for more gaslighting, arguing, disrespect, and devaluing. I have to realize that not engaging is the only closure I need. Closing the book, and moving on.
@ratusbagus Жыл бұрын
If you're reliving old arguments in your head responses will occur to you that you wish would have come to you at the time. Resist the urge to re-engage using these. Reliving puts you back in defensive point scoring mode. But that's pointless. Nothing you say will mean anything now as it did then. You will just reignite your suffering. Stay distant, on all levels.

Brilliant and on point !! It's so tempting to fight fire with fire , even if just out of self respect , but the truth is this approach ALWAYS fuels them . They are just not wired like us , infact confrontation actually appeals to their WIN AT ANY COST mentality , and reality doesn't even apply ! Any kind of attention , good OR bad , is like oxygen to their ego , that is why to go silent or failing to react will actually have the affect of suffocating them . Like a ravid dog they will keep attacking , but if you ignore them for long enough , they will eventually give up ! They will still spout their demonic poisonous lies about you to others , but we have to remember that these things are only THEIR BIASED OPINIONS , and not the actually truth ! The trauma bond they have created will mean that you might still be stuck in the fog of confusion . They are so good at convincing you overtime that ONLY THEY know reality and truth ,..but that is only a trick , a con they got you to buy into over time ! They do not rule you , you have your own mind and instincts . They have NO POWER , other than the trust , energy and wasted time you GAVE to them ! Why say ANYTHING at all ,..when silence can say a thousand words ?!!! 😎💪🙏❤️

It will be one year on March 16 since I last had any communication with him. I still sometimes wish to speak to him. Then I ask myself: Would you like to be lied to today? Would you like to be abused today? Would you like to be manipulated today? Would you like someone to try to emotionally hurt you for their own amusement today? Would you like to make the echos of his voice in your head louder for the next couple weeks? Do you really think the outcome will be any different than it always was? Do you want to be tearful and angry for days afterwards? Do you want him to have the satisfaction of devouring one more piece of you? No. No to all of it. I continue my silence. My peace. My freedom. Silence is such a beautiful power, the benefits I've received by staying silent these 3 months has been empowering. Not only with the narcissist in my life but with everyone. Of course you don't need to be completely silent with your loved ones but being able to pick and choose when you speak is such an underrated power. My words have value now that I've started to move in silence, people tend to listen more when I speak because when the one who rarely speaks finally opens their mouth people automatically assume their words must hold weight. When practicing moving in silence it can be awkward at first because you might be so used to saying whatever pops up on your mind but the more you do it you realize how far just a smile, nod or eye contact can reach people. plus some people just need someone to listen anyway. The narcissist in my life is showing so much more attention to me now since I have taken away 99% of my attention away from her. I give her bare minimum like saying "hey" or simply answering one of her questions. I have starved her of attention compared to what she was getting from me and she seems to be attracted to me now but since I have seen her true colors without the rose colored lenses I think completely different of her now. With people who actually value my time and opinion I find that they are initiating the engagements with me more often than before, they seem to naturally understand that even though I am quieter they can come to me when they need to talk about something or share something (jokes, stories) but I feel this sense of power of just being able to think clearer and control my emotions instead of just blurting something out and needing to clean up the mess with more words. Such a beautiful power. Thanks for sharing Andrew

Wow! May you please explain more how you procede and how was it, I try to be qiet but sometimes I just become talkative, I like sharing and help others but I knew also that I am used constantly.Thanks in advance
@smokeclouds82 жыл бұрын
@@malikak9384 It's difficult at first but the trick is to keep quiet, only speak when necessary and try to only speak when spoken to is key. Having a family member or a close friend to talk about anything helps when you just want to talk and vent though. I noticed a lot of the time I spoke when trying to "fit in" but I kept feeling like a goofball doing that so I started to hold back and my confidence has started to grow since I'm not as worried about someone taking what I said the wrong way anymore. Keeping your emotions in check helps as well, for example if someone says something you don't like don't get angry because you might have an emotion response and the same can go for if someone like (a crush) says something and instead of getting excited and saying something foolish just think carefully about what you're about to say. Giving yourself an extra second or two before you speak can go along way in controlling what comes out of your mouth. I also like to help others and when you move in silence you tend to have deeper conversations with people when you do open up and being a good listener can make people more comfortable around you. They'll want to come to you with their problems and listen to your advice since you put more thought into what you say. This has been my experience at least and I hope this helps you along your journey. Just remember your words have power and meaning behind them so use them responsibly. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

I just started a six month contract working for a narcissist who started being abusive first week. One thing that I found works is to ask a question to their questions and put downs. For instance when she yells about something for no reason just say, "Is it possible that you are mistaken?" The first time she said no it's not possible. But I kept asking other questions like how could I possibly know that you were requesting that from me? Just keep asking them questions back and don't defend yourself. You can do this in a very professional, calm way without taking on the abuse and agreeing with their accusations and false misrepresentations about you.
