This is great Chris! Your advice about recording yourself EVERY TIME you sing is spot. I began doing this recently and it makes a world of difference. I was in the same category of not liking how my voice sounds on a recording! It was not always the case, when I sing original stuff I can usually get it to where I want it to be but when singing covers (which I do for warm up and practice) those sound just disgusting. So I began recording my practices and I am begining to hear some elements in my voice that I like, so I begin to lean into those and this is helping me to develop a more unique tone and style. Overall you recent videos on things like sounding boring, being off pitch etc are very helpful! Thank you as always!

Singing into a room disperses the sound waves’ vibrations, but compressed into a mic 🎙 every scattering note coming off the vocal cords is picked up and sometimes recorded to a close but not intended note. And some mics will flatten the waves. You know. But I have to say, your demo at the start was impressive. It’s time for me to challenge myself vocally more, and so like the saying goes, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”

I believe I know exactly everything you described. I can virtually feel it even, in my throat. From singing so many artists, hearing what they do, I can hear all those things in songs and my own singing. I think in doing that and having good vocal control, if you FEEL what you're singing, do it with emotion, this will just come. My issue is sounding thin. And I like your version of this so damn much better. I cannot STAND that chick's vocal style. You make it listenable.

Hi Chris , it is so wonderful to stumble across your u tube. I am self teaching myself to sing . I ve been told i sound awful in singing at a young age thus never sang until recently . My challenge was nasality ,hoarseness , shortness of breath and cracking . After watching a few coach in u tube I am improving and sounding only ok . But I am lacking the beautiful tone in recording especially in Whitney Houston s song I have nothing . I almost gave up singing coz so tiring to improve my tone . Two days ago i started crafting line per line and noticed a slight improvement and just discovered you today that it called Crafting your tone. I felt reassured thats how you do it. Yes i also found few days ago too by lightening certain parts and bouncing and light vibrators does make the song sound much better . I ‘ m practising on a a budget karoake microphone . I’ m not sure what microphone to buy or equipments to help . Plus I am recording into my I phone . Thanks you are giving me hope and encouragement.

@@wera6880 yes you can achieve significant improvement with lots of practice to the point where you listen to your voice and say whoa i can enjoy my voice now . I also find this u tuber helped me alot also Healthy Vocal Tecnique -Victoria Victorios Vocal Tips. Once you mastered the basics you can steer your voice to the way you wish to sound . It is important you record your pure voice and then with a microphone , coz it sound slightly different . Then you adjust to the way you like it to sound . Hopefully it makes sense.

Hey, Chris! I have a problem. The thing is that I hate my voice type (I’m a baritone). Most singers I love and try to sing along to are tenors and that just depresses me. I know I can learn to hit all those high notes if I practice enough but the timbre won’t be the same nor will it sound effortless, well you know that. I always feel like singing is like playing a guitar solo but what if your guitar only has three lowest strings? That solo must be boring as hell! I’m trying to embrace my own voice but it’s just really really sad haha

This is a great topic!!! I think you CAN get closer to how you sound to yourself/the richness & resonance you hear in the room/from your own chest by using the right mic and EQ. I despise condenser mics specifically bc the ones I've tried completely remove the warmth and resonance I hear/feel. I currently use a ribbon mic (comes with its own room sound challenges, etc obviously), or an SM57 "drum" mic and think those are superior for my alto/soprano to keep that richness and resonance.
@thenaiveofficial26703 жыл бұрын
I think a good point that you could point out . is that even if people don't follow your youtube lessons per say , just by watching them and making and making somewhat of a habbit of it , that it will introduce you into this sort of subconcious ..more confident idea of engineering your voice , rather than shutting down phisically and emotionally when you hear yourself sounding .. a bit embarresing ... that's how it works for me anyway , im a lil drunk but i hope i described that in a way wich is somewhat comprehensible

Dude it is. Relax. Have fun. yawn, loosen up that larynx and mess around. If you're feeling insecure....you'll sound uptight and insecure. What's helped me 100% is focusing in enjoying singing. My warm up basically starts like meditating. I relax everything...take in a good old singers diaphragm breath then sing...if you can't do that relaxed, maybe try the above and just hmmmm until you can open up into a good old Ahhhhhh? If you're feeling insecure you probably have some good lyrics swimming in those thoughts..use em.

Great lesson. One of issues i struggle with at times, is my piano style, and how the rhythmic syncopation between my left and right hand, can limit how much rhythmic syncopation, ie rhythmic freedom, i have in my voice. Im always hoping to craft that third degree of syncopation. Apparently, there must be limits, that someone like sting overcomes. Maybe its attention? How much i can hear the parts? So... How do you think about this, when your entire performance is just your voice, while playing an instrument? And yeah, i do that thing where you play on the beats, and weave a vocal melody around that structure. Thanks

I watched a video earlier saying that the soft palate should be raised and not lowered by another KZbinr called singing Sensei. You've been teaching nasal resonance where we have it lowered to send enough air flow through the nose. I feel like they are opposites so which one should be focus on. Also, do we focus on having the same feeling in singing as we do in an exercise or should we not worry about that when we singing. E.g. mm mah then trying to sing with the same resonance and feeling in the mah part.
