Why YouTube is so TERRIBLE now (Asmongold, xQc and bad content)

KZbin has a near monopoly on long form video content and is home to many wonderful creators who put so much effort into making well though out and carefully edited content.
And then you have the parasite streamers who not only use this content to pad out their own low effort stream, but then upload their reactions to KZbin to directly compete with the original video and in some cases surpass it. This is becoming increasingly popular with content farms like Asmongold and xQc putting out this type of content daily and receive millions of views. With Shorts also being pushed on us all far more it seems KZbin is just getting worse with no end in sight.

Thanks for doing this. I wish other youtubers would share the content they like more often regardless of if its related to their content bubble. Spread the love. I will offer one push back to 'good' react video content creators like Majority Report or Hasan or Vaush or whatever....they interrupt videos TOO OFTEN. Sam Seder basically has the running gag of listening to 5 words of the first sentence and saying 'stop'....then talking for 5 minutes. Are you REACTING to content or aren't you? That's an extreme version of this but almost every react channel does this...they interrupt mid point to go on their own talking points before confirming if that's even where the video was going. I kind of wish transformative youtubers would react less....but people like XQC clearly take things too far.

His audience is predominantly children who will blindly follow literally anything he says and every whim he has. Regardless of their level of interest in the topic, product, or concept. A few months ago, I remember a friend's kids watching Asmongold's stream, watching other Asmongold stream re-runs on KZbin until that stream was uplaoded, and then rewatching the stream they just watched. This. I think that Twitch/KZbin need to find a solution together where if a streamer opens up video during their stream that it should automatically open up a window within a window of the original video on the viewer's end, and then it would play it at the same speed and pause/rewind/fast forward to the same position as the streamer.

I have to actively seek out leftest, LGBTQ+, and femme creators. They DO NOT come up on my feed. It's all centrist content made by men. I watch 1 Penguinz0 video and now it's literally all I get. The algorithm skews right and it's exhausting. All the content being pushed is either massive high budget or mindless content that requires zero thought to consume. Edit: I'd also like to add that I never have this problem on TikTok. I'm able to get content for my hyper-specific niche, whereas on KZbin I'm only getting content for the masses, and I don't like that. *nods nods...! 'have been thinking/feeling about how to counter this right-wing grifting by existing big KZbinrs... This trend is also present among Vtubers and Vtuber commentators? Getting on controversies that pander to silly culture wars, not caring about thinking more deeply on the real heart of those issues, not realizing that it's capitalism, greed, and profit and uncaring for workers that's the heart of the problem, and just generating controversy and drama, like rev says desu, Kirsche and others in the space...? Maybe one way to counter reactionary grift is to... maybe go with the flow? Moi's connected with Zecke_ch, a Vtuber who streams news on Twitch and then applies progressive/socialist/anarchist/critical thought in commentary, alongside his games and stuff, and then uploads edited commentary on KZbin? He comments on Asmongold, ShortFatOtaku, and other reactionaries... Moi can understand how Kavernacle-sensei and other progressive video essayists/creators feel like their efforts aren't reaching peeps... But perhaps one way out is to ride the same wave? Stream on Twitch, comment on reactionary stuff, then put out edited clips/highlights on YT? But still be clear and true and entertaining and memey when reacting to "culture wars" and issues, with critiques on capitalism and systems of oppression? Gotta find creative ways of engaging with peeps all over the world via KZbin and medias whilst also providing progressive commentary! All the best, comrades-nakamas-friends! Laban lang nang laban! YT is SO boring nowadays... It's either the same thing or videos from people that I don't even watch. There's no more fun videos... There's no more creative ideas... Idk if it's the algorithm or if YT is just dead now... Like you said, trash is starting to get pushed out more to the majority of watchers. I personally think that people are copying TikTok's grind where you upload the same thing as everyone else or reupload others' content (effortless content) and are applying it to KZbin now. That's why I left TT because it was all the same thing and the more creative ideas or "trends" never really took off. It got boring for me and now YT is becoming boring for me too... Very few people remember why the algorithm changed in the first place into the mess it is today. There was group of "women reactors" aptly named "The reply girls" many years ago that would mark their videos with popular tags and phrases KZbin search would pick up on. So the moment you typed up something you wanted to watch in KZbin, the main video you were looking for was always superseded by a girl in a low cut dress with lots of cleavage allegedly "replying" to whatever popular phrase or subject at the time was presented as the first search result. Tons upon tons of big creators complained for eons about it until KZbin stepped in to interrupt the reply girl's manipulative search engine optimization tactics. What we are presently experiencing now are more or less "Reply channels 2.0". The legacy of "The reply girls" did not die with them or their channels no they evolved and became the foundation of something even worse.

He's been very, very against react content and had this whole series where he talked about how bad react content is and how react streamers are slowly ruining KZbin. I agreed with almost everything he said about react content but people took some things from the document out of context and made him look like the "villain". I'm also annoyed with the fact that some leftist creators like Gabi Belle and some other smaller leftist dude whom I forgot the name lied about him and even defended the react streamers, as well as how basically the left treated him like an enemy simply because he's not a part of the Breadtube community. I was very disappointed but I'm glad that Kav finallt talks about this.

Like the moment Asmingold has to hit pause to tell something that's actually more than just voicing agreement in your example, it just immediately takes you out of the video. @MxchiefMaykr
@MxchiefMaykr 2 ай бұрын
The problem for a lot of us is that even trying to cultivate your online viewing experience, KZbin will not actually let you consistently do so. You search up a topic, the results are all either unrelated, reaction content, or a stream of one creator's vaguely related content burying everyone else's videos on the topic. You tell KZbin you're not interested/do not show me this channel, give it a couple days and the same video will pop right back up! My subscriptions page never loads properly and I keep being unsubscribed from people I have followed for years. You watch one video on a topic and KZbin will spam you with nothing but that for weeks, and if you watch anything to do with certain games you immediately get slammed with fashie content bc it associates stuff like Warhammer lore and it's discussion of fascism with "wow this person must love fascism!!". I keep getting the same videos I've already watched recommended over and over, not getting videos from creators I follow until weeks later... It's a mess even when you try to curate it!

Honest question at what point do you decide if it's adding or relevant to the topic or videos at hand vs not adding anything at all? Because I'm a huge fan of tangents and topics sparked by the ramblings of someone watching Somthing like that.

I mean you shouldn't be using videos to pad streams in the vague hopes it sparks some story you can tell your chat. If Asmongold wants to use the video he should have watched it first and planned it properly to show people segments and then elaborate on. If he does that and then says the story about his dad then fair - if he's literally watching a video for ten minutes out of 30 and the only thing he has to say is about his dad buying a PC then that isn't relevant at all and clearly the vid doesn't need to be playing for him to say that to people.

reaction channels need to have some sort of shared revenue system, or algorithms need to recognize reaction videos and push the original video over the reaction video.

This happens with history stuff too. I watch a lot of legit history stuff on YT then the algorithm slams me with shitty ancient alien/Atlantis bullshit...like why? Go away, lol

I wonder what would happen if creators started putting a constant layover message that says something like "if you haven't seen the original video before this reaction video, check it out at......"

I think that they should just make it so that you can either have the content that you are reacting to in a 1/4 screen PiP and give that creator half of the monetization for any time that it is on screen, or vice versa for 3/4 of your monetization for that screen time; so if you just had yourself in a little Picture in Picture like he did there, the original creator would get 3/4 of all of your monetization.

What annoys me the most is that suggested videos are now just a clusterfuck. I remember the days when suggested videos were those uploaded around the same time frame by the same creator, or at least the same topic by a different creator. Now no matter what I'm watching all that's suggested are totally unrelated hours and hours long videos from people I've never heard of talking about topics I've never shown interest in as far as the algorithm should be concerned, or really obnoxious clickbait thumbnails and dogshit drama content. The search bar doesn't even work anymore, like huh?

I get chatters (and some of my subscribers) asking for me to react to their content live (often clip compilations of the channel or a YT video they worked hard on they want me to see), and in an instance like that I think it is a bit different. But then again I am a small creator myself on Twitch with less than 500 followers and between 10-25 viewers, so the dynamic/mood and overall goals are quite far removed from giant creators

“The only reason they’re watching it is because he’s sitting there?” Yes, in some cases. As sad as it is. It’s important not to underestimate the number of kids on KZbin pumping up these views numbers

I remember when a KZbin reaction video meant pointing a camera at your pal while he watched "2 girls 1 cup" for the first time. Those were the days eh!

Can we talk about how every single one of the react stream thumbnails is the exact same? Are they all using the same lazy editor, or are they using different lazy editors that are just copying the other lazy editors?

First time ever seeing any asmongold content in years and what I noticed directly was watching the original video with some friend who is telling you whatever comes to their mind tangentially related to the topic. And maybe that's something people want in a post-pandemic world with remote work on the rise et cetera. The Illusion of a friend who you watch some youtube stuff along together. People are so isolated that this might be only the symptom of a larger problem

I was so disappointed when I found out that Capcom partnered with Asmongold (who isn’t even a fan) on Dragons Dogma 2. It made me way less excited for the game, and I wasn’t even going to get it until I learned that you don’t have to see or interact with his likeness. I just can’t see how any company would want to work with him, I understand he has a large fanbase and stuff, but Jesus Christ that dude has some issues. All one needs to do to know that is to see his living conditions which is completely by choice, hear his horrible takes and lack of original “content” and interact with his weird fans.

I don't know what is worse: the unwashed streamers that sit there drooling while watching someone else's hard work and profit off it, or the smooth brains that watch these reactions while spamming dumbass emojis because they are apparently entertaine by this more than just watching the actual video. If there was any actual justice, Twitch and YT would identify this stuff immediately and seize all revenue on behalf of the original producer. This isn't fair use.

While I completely agree with you that these reaction videos are garbage, you've kind of inadvertently hit on the real super-villain here which is KZbin itself. As much as I have distaste for the likes of these reaction streamers, they are simply capitalising on the system that KZbin has set up - really, the essence of capitalism. We can get angry with the streamers, of course, but I kind of feel that that anger is misplaced. KZbin is really just the capitalist overlord exploiting all of us. We can get angry with these reaction streamers stealing others' content, but we're powerless to do anything about it, because as the owner of the means of production, only KZbin has the power to do anything. I really love your channel and appreciate your strong sense of morality and integrity, but I would love to see you calling out the true capitalists (the owners of KZbin, Twitter, etc) rather than focusing your ire on individuals.
