It was a very cold winter, proof of this was confirmed by a U.S medic. He was on the only road into Finland, when he saw what looked like a Russian patrol just standing in the road. As he got closer e realized the Russians were not moving, it was when he was within a few feet from them that he saw these men were dead frozen in place after having their throats slashed. That's what the line in the song says " A slice of a knife to a throat and blood turns to ice"

This song is from the album The Art Of War and every song is connected to a chapter in that book.

Yes the art of war is a book Each song in the art of war corresponding to a different lesson in the actual book which they say in sabaton history song art of war and finland as soon as they got independence started building the defence line because they knew russia would come back to reclaim finland general mannerheim is a war hero after the war be became Finland's president and finland had conscription every male aged 18+ had to serve for at least a year thats how they were able to call up so many reserves fast and finland today still uses conscription age 18 has to serve for 8 months to a year this allows finland to call up hundreds of thousands of reserves in rapid time also that's why finland joined NATO this year and why they have such a massive grudge with russia and why they support ukraine so much

If you want an awesome song with Sabaton you should react to en livstid i krig live Scandinavium Gothenburg. The album Carolus Rex they released during that time is about a part of Swedish history referred to as the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) when Sweden was a much bigger nation with ambitions of expanding. The album was released with both a Swedish and English version, the difference being that the Swedish one tells the story from our/a Swedish soldiers view while the English is more from an outsider's view. It is the Swedish version the played that night so be sure that you have the subtitles on, I was at that show and all I can say is that you will not regret it.

great video, sabaton is what got me into metal music. I was already into history before and that's why I love them. one of my favorite songs of their songs is the last stand which is about the battle of Rome in 1527 where Spain attacked the pope's lands. Its a very Christain song too and talks about the bravery of the swiss guard that defended the pope.

It won't ruin your reaction to read the Sabaton video description, for context. Love that you are into learning more about the stories they tell in their songs! But I advise doing 2 separate videos. One for history, one for the song... you'll get better views!

Great reaction again! May I add a Song to the List about a very very special Person? He was born in Finnland, fighting the Sovjets, became enemy of the red army #1, then escaped to germany, became a Waffen SS lieutenant, returned to Finnland to fight the Russians again, then escaped to the US, and became a Legend of the US Special Forces the Green Berets in Vietnam. The Song is "Soldier of 3 Armies"

According to history books. About 26 000 Finish and 272 000 Russians died in the Winter War.... Out Of the 272 000 - More than 205 000 froze to death on the Russian side - Not prepared for whats awaited them as Stalin thought it would be a swift victory and not provided them with winter cloths.

I just watched a good video by a Russian KZbinr, he went into the heart Karelia and explored the entire area, but the border patrol stopped him like 10 times and were asking a lot of questions. I was intrigued by this video because I believe Lauri Allen Tourni, Simo Häyhä, and Wiltold Pilecki were all born in Karelia.

Not only this, but we throwed everyhting we had against USSR. And when i, as a Finn, say that: i mean it. Not only we used Molotov Coctails, but selfmade landmines, Suomi -submachine guns and "corpsicles". Yes, ye heard it right, "corpsicles": iced corpses of Soviet soldiers, propped up, just like scarecrows, but much more grotesque and morbid, than anyhting out there, instilliing fear and showing that we dont falter nor give mercy for wretched homeinvaders. "Soviets, ye dont find anything except icy cold death on this god forsaken piece of Arctic Wastelands, that we, the Finnmen call home". And yes, even today, many foreigners shake their in amazement how somebody can live in this desolated forested wilderness, suffering, during winter, from -10 to -40 degrees celsius or from 14 to -40 degrees fahrenheights of icy coldness.

Actually, Finland was not very well prepared for war in the autumn of 1939. The Finns thought that neutrality would protect them, and the Soviet Union would not dare to attack a neutral country. However, when the war came, mobilization took place quickly in Finland. The will to fight was strong. However, the army was poorly equipped, so a spontaneous weapon "Molotov cocktail" was invented. The Finnish author Antti Tuuri wrote a novel called "Winter War" and it was made into a movie of the same name in 1989.

I have seen everybody going crazy with sabaton songs what tells about their country. This one is about my country and it's not that good song. That era when this was done sabaton wasn't that good as it is today. Winter war , yea it was decisive period of time when heroes rise and we lost that one. But that event had bigger meaning in ww2 events. As Stalin had executed pretty much all capable officers, as dictators seem to do, soviet army was easy target for finnish farmers and peasants. We have lived here very long time and know terrain very well. So soviets suffered crazy casualties but ofc with more of everything they won in the end. Back to larger scale. Some failed painter from Austria saw that as weakness and planned operation barbarossa. It is said that talvisota (winter war) was one of many reasons. Check their history channel, it's actually good except with haber bosch.
