When it is hot and air conditioning is a must, portable air conditioners can be a good choice: No installation, they dehumidify the air, many are portable and most are cost effective. If you purchase a partially evaporative AC, you will need to drain the water.
See this short video about the Whynter ARC-14SH portable air conditioner. Lots of my viewers asked me to show how to drain the condensation water from the unit. After lots of procrastinating I finally made the video. Enjoy ...

I have this model and it requires draining daily. Atleast 20oz of water gets collected in the tank and I can hear the condensate water fall into the tank which is irritating. Draining has not been implemented properly, I place a towel down there, remove the rubber cap and tilt it. I do not wait for the water to raise to the level when it starts flowing down by itself.

now that it's winter, i have this unit on heat and it works much better than expected as a heater in a large space - but it seems like after half to a full day (or if run overnight), the internal water bin is always full. that's pretty frustrating, especially when i feel winter is our driest season for sure. i have multiple of these units and they behave the same way, so i don't think there's any explicit defect. anyone experiencing this?

It will not cool down a 150 square foot room and keep it cool if the outside temp is 85 degrees ore more. We used it as a supplementary ac unit and with the main ac it was a small help when our main ac went down you could forget about it. Does not work as intended.

Very helpful, but I do have a question. I just bought new the S version not the SH. It had two problems when it arrived. One problem has been fixed. Here is my question about the second problem. Why does cool air exhaust (out) the input hose in low volume? This hose should be breathing air into the unit but instead it pushes cool air out at a very low volume. I have both hoses, exhaust and input, mounted in the mounting window plate, secured in the window, provided by the manufacturer. The manufacturer will not assist with this problem. Thank you.

@Woopnik 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Lance. Thanks for watching. Yes, you can take the shell off, but this is not easy to do. A situation where you must clean the inside of an air conditioner is when there is mildew in your AC. Take the shell off, vacuum and remove mildew from the inside and especially the fan blades. Other than that I cannot think of a situation where the AC has to be taken apart for maintenance. Should the compressor brake then an AC professional has to take apart the AC and replace the compressor. Have a great day and Good Night 😴💤

Hello Stephanie. Nice to meet you. Slide the drain bucket on the floor UNDERNEATH the plug area, then unplug it. You may need to gently tilt it slightly to get the water to drain into the bucket. I had to plug it back up then dump the water out and then repeat the process to prevent water from spilling out of the drain bucket onto my carpet. No tube needed. And please close the plug after draining your air conditioner. I hope I was able to help you. Have a wonderful day 😀👍

@Woopnik
@Woopnik 4 жыл бұрын
You live in New York City? Is it very humid right now? The ARC-14SH features an auto drain function which fully exhausts all condensate automatically in most environments. Should the unit need to be drained, the drain plug should be removed and the condensation collected in a separate container. To remove all of the moisture, slightly tilting the unit is the most efficient way. You can also run the unit in fan only mode for a couple of hours to dry the internal tray. There is a new optional condensation drain tray that slides under the drain port for simple draining. I hope I was of any help. 😀

I have some condensation around the vent on top after my first night of using my Whynter ARC-14SH, is that normal?
@Woopnik
@Woopnik 5 жыл бұрын
All portable air conditioners produce condensation as they are cooled. This water is then contained in an internal water reservoir or drained through a hose. Is your portable AC vented correctly? Venting instructions may vary from unit to unit, but the most important thing to remember is to follow the instructions provided with your air conditioner. Make sure you keep the exhaust hose very straight while using the venting system. Try not to increase the length of the exhaust hose (it can, however, be shortened). Using an extension cord with a portable air conditioner is also not recommended. By venting the unit properly and following the care instructions provided, your portable air conditioner should not create condensation around the vent on top. I hope I was of any help. Please feel free to contact me again. 😀

Hallo! I have had a Whynter for about 3 years now coming up on 4, and I love it! However, I feel like it's beginning to lose some cooling abilities. Would there be any chance, you would know if I could do something about that? Maybe exchange or refill anything?
@Woopnik
@Woopnik 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Krew. There are several reasons why a portable AC unit does not cool anymore as it did when it was new. Portable AC units require regular cleaning to prevent a build up of dust and dirt. A dirty unit no longer functions properly until it is cleaned. Even the smallest particles can bind together and create a damaging layer on your unit’s motor, causing the entire system to clog up. As a result, you could be faced with mechanical and electrical problems. Keep up with regular cleaning and maintenance to prevent these issues from arising. The filters on your unit may also be dirty and in need of replacement. Regularly cleaning out filters can help extend how long they last before they need to be replaced. When cleaning filters, refrain from using detergents or soaps, as they create a residue that can clog the system. Tip: By keeping the outside of the unit clean, the inside of the unit stays cleaner as well. Freon is the cooling agent used in most air conditioning systems. Every air conditioning system needs a refrigerant (also called a coolant) that actually creates the cool air. With the Whynter ARC-14S/SH you cannot fill up for example the coolant. The compressor is sealed and has no openings to refill the coolant. I hope I was of any help. Let Me know if you have anymore questions. Have a great day.

They state it 'should' be removed through the hose exhaust out the window, apparently.

I have this model and I live in a climate that has ~50-80% humidity. So far on days of ~75% and under humidity, I have not had to drain the unit at all (it has its own evaporation system and will warn and stop the unit from operating if the water collection is full). Today the humidity is ~90% so I will give an update if you want on whether or not I had to drain the unit.

*update* After 2 days of high humidity (~85-95%) I have not had to drain the unit at all. No leaks, and constant use for ~7 hours. Just in case, I'll give another update in a few months if I ever remember. Enjoy!

Hello Jona. A Possible Cause: The Air filter needs to be cleaned. Once the clean filter is installed, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the F1 code. A beep sound will indicate a successful reset process. Please keep me posted if this worked for you. Have a great Sunday 😀👍

hello this is michael's wife , my husband passed away last november but i believe i can answer that question, it depends on how much you use it specially during the summer, i would say check on it every 2 weeks, that's what he used to do and thank you for watching

This is the stupidest drainage system I've ever seen. how do you drain it if there is a gallon of water in it it's going to go everywhere. I bought this unit to replace a cheaper air conditioner but the one that I I have has a drainage almost 2 ft off the floor so I can easily stick a bucket there instead of a plate. I guess they weren't using their brains too much.

What a load of shit. My a.c. unit sucks. I've got water everywhere. Even on top of this unit.
