Hello Michael, This is how I found you quite a few years ago. I was looking to purchase a few roll around air conditioners. I wound up buying 3 Haier HPND14XCT. Today I have 2 of them left, one is in my basement being used as a dehumidifier. The other is in a closet as a backup for the one being used as a dehumidifier. I have a sump pump in my basement. I cut the ends off an old hose a few feet long, screwed them on to the drain lines of the AC unit and the other end into my sump pump so I never have to drain it just wash the filter once a week. Your original video of you talking about your AC unit helped me and I have been watching your ever since.

Very Helpful: I've had my unit for a year now and this was the first time I got the STOP error. Simple water drainage was all I needed. Thanks to your vid I'm back up and running.

This is great, thanks for your insight. I have 2 of these machines, and run them pretty hard, and they've never failed. One of them is in my basement with the drain going right into my sump. My house is 1940s vintage, maybe yours is around there too. Thanks again, and take care!

I use a small 16oz water bottle to empty the unit. I first put down a wash cloth to help catch the spillage then unscrew the cap and then quickly slide the bottle into catch the water. I have a second larger bucket near at hand to drain the water bottle as it fills. The trick is once the bottle becomes full, tilt the unit forward to stop the flow out of the drain, empty the bottle into the bucket, then replace the bottle at the drain and tilt the unit back to level to continue draining. I've gotten quite adept at it and the wash cloth generally is enough to keep the floor from getting too wet. It does require enough strength to tilt the unit back and forth with one hand as you are sitting beside it.

Love your channel - it’s been extremely helpful. I’m hoping you might be able to help as I can’t find any information from Google.. I just recently installed one in my primary bedroom on the second floor to help with the Texas heat. I’m not sure if this is standard behavior, but when it is off I can feel the hot air from outside coming out of the cooling vent at the top. This seems odd to me. I figured if it was off no air from outside would be leaking inside. I hope you might be able to give me some troubleshooting guidance.

I use a bed pad. It’s easy. Just toss it in the washer after.

Is it ok to leave the drain plug unplugged all the time? I’ve got a way to deal with the water that comes out but not sure if it is required that the plug be installed while the unit runs. Thanks!

I have found this to be an annoying draw-back to the Whynter ARC-14SH. I've had other portable dehumidifiers and A/C units with a similar form-factor. They've always had a convenient drain hose option which eliminates the need to empty anything. Other than that, the unit seems to work well. I've only had it for about a week; so not ready to give it a full review just yet.

Hello Clint. Thank you for your comment. I agree with you in regards to the draining port. Whynter’ s design of a draining port is not great. Looking forward to a review of this unit by you. Have a great night 😴💤😋

This is a very poorly designed bucket. It's very awkward to use and worst of all, it doesn't accommodate the entire amount of water that needs to be drained. Water on the floor always. I had to put a snap cornered garden tarp under the unit because it has already leaked on our floors and then down on our bedroom ceiling leaving ugly stains. Love the unit -- heats well and cools well, but the drainage is terrible.
