This song haunted me when I first heard it when I was 17 and still haunts me at 63. I have to say it is my favorite song of my life and the combination of Jimmy Webb's songwriting talents, Glenn's playing and singing and the Stone Temple Pilots arrangement just make it perfect.

Glen's voice here is not his clear, smooth one of the sixties. And that's exactly why this version is so outstanding! The lyrics and incredible Webb chord structure suit the arrangement here. A wiser, weathered Campbell is singing now. I also enjoy the removal of the orchestra, letting the instruments speak starkly.

All these covers, I met Glen in the 80's, he was jamminig with Jerry Reid in a restaurant prior to a gig. As a pro guitarist myself, nobody these days is even close to him. I couldn't even figure the scales he played, A totally under- rated player who can hang with anyone.

People don't know the depth and quality of STP's music because unfortunately, they're known only for their radio hits. "Interstate Love Song" and "Plush" are fantastic, but songs like"Glide" and "I Got You" are even better, both of which demonstrate their gift for combining catchy hooks with beautiful melodies. And if you listen to the guitar work, you can hear their love of country throughout a good portion of their recordings. It's really no surprise they love Glen Campbell.
